Freebird,

Just went to the SJU web site, looked at roster, about 200 players.  Went to SJU/EC football game, 34 SJU players participated in that game.  That leaves 164 players that didn't play.  Of those 164 players, lets assume theres 34 of them that are game ready, kids that will help SJU win another MIAC title.  That leaves 130 kids that will never see the field in an important game, I call them scrubs!  Every team has them, even Div. I programs.  I don't think my comment is negative towards SJU, just you individually!  And again, stemming from a comment you made, that's all!

If I can, I'd like to make one thing clear;

4th-for the SJU people that are responding, I don't think I ever said anything good or bad about your team.

Hmmm ... let's try
QuoteI get it, you were one of the 200+ scrubs that go there each year to say you were on the team!

Is your explanation that you just sneered at the players and didn't say anything negative about the "team"?

Scrubby/"Coach" - Still waiting for your answer here.  You want to be all grown up and all, how about manning up to your comments?

Sometimes the truth comes off negative to the one it is directed at.  I'm sure Scrubby didn't know he was stepping on your toes.

I'd take SJU's scout team over Northwestern Bible College any day. Yes, that is coming from a Tommie.

...yeah, and look at what the score was!   Let's hope they played everyone!  Just about every program in America let's the Sr's be captain, don't have to be good to be a captain, just stupid enough to stick it out for 4 years!  I was one of those!!

Scrubby41

I'd take your scout team over NWC too!  What the heck is a program like yours playing a NWC anyway!  I can't even believe you brought that up!

Scrubby,

You, as a former coach, should know that not only your starters are important to winning.  Who do you think those 40 or so players practice against all week?  Someone has to be there to act as the opponent.  Just because a guy doesn't see the field much or at all doesn't mean that he doesn't play a part in the team's success.

As a former SJU player, I can say that those scout players are a necessity.  I was one of them for a year, and it was nice to be appreciated by the starters.  When I became a starter, I made sure to let the scout players know that they were important.

Scrubs, I think the "UST" should tell you that he's a St. Thomas grad, not a Johnnie.

I couldn't agree more about the scouts (scrubs) and how they are the "KEY" to any program!  If some of you that are so smart would look at my screen name, you'd know why I'm saying what I am.  Again, my comment to the SJU player was a direct result from some smart a.ss comment he made, that's all!

Why do you think he is a player?

Just got the okay from Terry, the owner of Mick's Office, that he will have the restaurant/bar/wateringhole open for Johnnie and Cobber fans Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. I told him that I and Cobbernation would do everything possible to have a huge turnout of fans from both schools.

Assuming you are coming from the south on 1-94, continue north on 8th street/HWY 75 past the Cobber (Jake) stadium. About a mile past the Jake you will hit the intersection with Main Ave. Mick's is one more block north and on the right hand side. It shares a parking lot with Taco John's.

Be there or be square. Sounds like Mick's Office has great burgers and plenty of adult beverages.

BDB, Austin! Spam, Minnesota :P

Sounds good J Red and I will let some other Cobbers know of the festivities at Mick's Office!  Good work on getting the ok from Terry to open early.  A true tailgating fan you are!

NWC isn't trying to get into the MIAC, they never have made that there goal. Limited budgets and desiring to play competition that is highly respected has been more the goal than anything. Having played and coached at NWC I have seen the program grow into a respected program that can compete with a large number of teams. Don't misunderstand me when I say compete and beat. They did beat Augsburg up pretty good, but that team will finish at the lower half of the MIAC, as would NWC if they were in the conf. I think NWC and other teams in the UMAC know that they will be playing for a chance to go into the playoffs in a couple of years so you have to play better teams to understand what playoff teams are like. I know the odds are the UMAC/SLIAC will be a one and done in the playoffs but you still have to prepare for the time if it should come.

Keep doing what you are doing-just do it better

Scrubby41

Eagles99,
Please don't take my comments wrong.  I think NWC could compete with some of the lower teams in the MIAC.  During some of the good years during the past 10 years, NWC would be right up there with most of the teams, maybe not SJU, CC, and Olaf and BU when they had those good years!  SJU (a national power almost every year) playing NWC is a joke.  That is not to take anything away from NWC, it just seems like a waste for SJU!  Unless it's like Gophers playing Temple, get a win so you have a chance for a bowl game.  I think most of you know what I'm trying to say, even the SJU people!

Enough juvenile bickering people.  I liked it more when I was sifting through Hamm's talk to find the occasion entertaining link/forward/football tid-bits than I do the playground arguments.

And I use my karma power for the first time on that.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Duffman,

Thanks for the kind comment and keeping me out of the fray.

But when Bridgewater is losing 66-0 in the playoffs and we are taking a knee or kicking a field goal on first downs to keep the score down how is that not sportsmanship? Taking a knee in my opinion is worse than scoring as far as the other team is concerned. Just because the chant "START THE BUS!" could be heard the fans were just trying to be helpful because it was so cold outside.

In the game mentioned last week against Otterbein, a DB recovered a fumble in the end zone for a score and on the next play from scrimmage he picks off a pass and returns it 24 yds for a score. That's 14 points in 10 seconds by the same guy. (Before I get caught, that is 12 points by the same guy and two by the kicker)  Not his fault. The offense had only run 5 plays with 12 minutes to go in the second quarter and the score was 27-zip.  The score isn't run up on purpose. You play who is in front of you. Conference game. See ST. Johns vs Auggie Tech.

At Averrett the bench was cleared and they asked for people in the stands that still had elligibilty.

I ran for 40 yds on 6 carries.   ;D LOL Didn't score though........story of my life! :)

Overall my experience with visitors comments after a trip to Alliance has been  positive except for the score. '01 referenced.  LK does not want it any other way.

ON another note....anyone going to Concordia that has some extra room in the vehicle?

raiderguy, don't get me started on the experience I had as a fan walking into the Mount stadium in 1993. I thought I was back in Carver County walking into a plowed field. It was sooooooooo black from all the moisture and mud. I do believe Mount should be given some credit for coming up with a strategy for beating the Johnnies, i.e. watering down the field. I know it worked for the Oles a few years ago. :(
