Does SJU have a JV team?

Nope. But if SJU did field a JV team it could go 6-4 most years playing the same teams the Varsity does.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Ok, can we drop this stuff and talk about this weekend's games a little bit?  Someone asked a few pages back about the Bethel/Carleton tilt, and I think SJU has a bit of a test this weekend as well, not to mention a likely good game between the Pipers and Gusties.  Any injury reports yet?  How is Porta's hand?

In response to that BU/Carleton tilt, the key player is PORTA.  He will get the ball.  He is a good running back who follows his blockers (Wassink is a good one) well.  Wetzell has a strong arm who throws the ball on a rope, but the Royal offense tends to be run-first.

I can't speak much to the Royal defense other than they stop the run well.

For Carleton, R.J. Jackson does it all for the Knights.  They've won pretty big thus far, and I'm interested to see how the Ramler-coached team does in its first real test, but I don't see the Carls putting up a huge fight to the Royals.

I'll tell you what's obscene: Continuing to mention the Tommie-Johnnie rivalry in the same posts as the NWBC-BU rivalry. It's clown shoes by comparison.

....and when all the water clears, they have been calling people like me and all the people that don't see alot of action (other than the 50 or so that do) on saturdays, "Scrubs"!  That term has been around as long as I have and I'm sure Coach Gags would say as long as he's been around as well!!

Eagles99

I talked to a SJU coach who said there are guys who are at practice that never participate in anything, they just stay at the back of the line. Point being is they want to have the Johnnie experience without having to put the type of energy in that the top dogs do. This isn't a rip on the Johnnies this is just a fact that there are some kids in the program who want to go home and tell there friends that they are a Johnnie, the program has the reputation where they can do that and that is a pretty neat thing.

Keep doing what you are doing-just do it better

Wait......since the J-men don't HIT in practice, maybe they use all those kids for the competitive dance challenge held every week on Johnnie-intensity day.   ;D  Picture all those players two-stepping with their partners, intensely trying to "out-style" the other couples on the field.

That Gags has the most ingenious training/practice routines I have ever seen.   ;D

What really freaked the Mount fans out was this person was drinking his alcohol out of a hydrogen peroxide bottle! Clever disguise! I think you know who he was.
It wasn't me! Never been to that place. And I can prove it. 8)

Scrubby-do41 - Call yourself whatever you want.  I have never heard a coach I respect use the word - and in your case that continues to be the case.   Spin it any way you like, it was an assinine and disrespectful comment on your part (and no, it was not in response to a post by me - you continue to have no clue as to whom you are responding in any of your posts).   But it's been fully ventilated now and I agree with johnnie_esq - let's get on with talking about football [edit: or Anna or Hamm's], although anything you say in my view falls under "consider the source."

I'm just wondering, is this outfit "obscene"?

Just had to bring this sweet post from fins back to the current discussion.  8)

Thanks BDB! I'm still looking for the front shot. I'm thinking her t-shirt says something obscene, like "Tommies Suck".

And on a marginally football-related note, the LaPlayette may be open as soon as this weekend, but definitely will be by homecoming.

Also you need about 50 total players on your team to field a scout team.  Something tells me the other 150 players aren't doing to much.  Sorry I know I stepping on your toes again...

Okay, folks, I haven't got to read much since yesterday, so sorry if it's been brought up, but here's how things work at SJU.

Split the field.  One half, offense works and the other, defense works.  Generally, you've got first string, second string, and a few other guys working out against a scout team.  There are generally 2 or 3 complete scout teams that rotate running plays so that starters are seeing a lot of plays in a short period of time.  Then, usually there is a session of scout O versus scout D just to give the younger guys a chance to run and learn SJU's offense and defense.  Granted, there probably are a few kids out there that really don't do much, but it's a small minority.

So, way more than 50 guys are invovled.  This may not be the way you guys are used to doing things, but then again, how many of you out there are the winningest college football coach.  Yeah, I thought so  :P.

A tradition unrivaled...

Since you asked...

Not my best effort, I know. I'll do better next time.  :-[

Johnnie Red

raiderguy, just jacking you up a little with the memories of the `93 game at Mount. I had headed downtown to a bar by the third quarter since I was so depressed with the whipping the Raiders were putting to the Johnnies after the season we had that year. Tough to leave the game with 8 points when we averaged 61.5 during the regular season. :-\

I thought your fans were fine. Enjoyed going to the student union when I was there in `01 for the huge breakfast that was going on for the Raider fans.
