With all this politics BS involved this weekend, I am sorta glad that I won't be there :-[

Does the J-Club still make print a shirt for homecomming? My favorite was back in '96 against Carleton, "it's not if we win, but by how much."

Well after sitting in the hotel lobby killing time till my flight home I read a good 20 pages of posts and it reaffirmed something I had forgetten in my time away.  In general SJU posters are the most classless folks around.  Take a lesson from JR or Esq or even a Cobber.

Cobbernation,
Best of luck to you this weekend, I hope it is a fun day you and Grant

Freebird, I resent that remark.  Generalizations can be dangerous.  Sure, some of the SJU posters can be obnoxious.  There are a lot of us.  We are justifiably very proud of our football program.  Kids that are not only great players but great kids.  There are posts I wish my friends would not make.  Heck, there's a couple I would like to take back.

I don't think the proportion is any greater than that of any of the other schools.

You might note that many of the nastiest remarks are  one Johnnie to another.

P.S.  As far as I know the games are still won and lost on Saturday afternoons by the young men on the field.  Here's to an exciting season an no one getting hurt.

ROR,

I have been thinking about your comments and you are right generalizations are dangerous.  To be honest I forgot to include you when singling out people that are actually respectable posters and really people I enjoy socializing with before a game.  In my two seasons posting on this board you, JR, Esq, and 105 have been posters I try to model my posts after.  JR is the only reason I had respect for SJU before I started posting here due to his kind gesture of offering my friends and I a burger at the 2004 game when we ran out.  Some of my other friends still talk about the amazing tour Esq gave us of the campus at the 2005 SJU/Hamline and again that was very cool.  Unfortunately posters such as TDT, Duffman, KR and other drastically bring down the amount of respect I have for your program.  They don't seem to get it and continually show signs of immaturity and ignorance.  The most recent example being KR's unwillingness to admit he is wrong in claiming I condone vandalism at my school.

As a friend ROR I am sorry for the generalization but I hope you can understand where I am coming from.

To quote "The Dude"  appropos of Freebird;  "No, Walter, you're not wrong...... You're just an a$$hole."

All those tax breaks have led to record revenue for the quarter ending September 15, the higest percentage of which is paid by those who are in the top 10%. Also, the deficit is continuing to drop faster than estimates. Use facts rather than spout platitudes.

Willy Wonka

freebird - Like KR, I'm too lazy to go back through the posts to find proof of guilt or innocence. However, I do remember thinking and reacting (without posting) exactly the same as KR did.

Should we be hatin' on the Godfather for mixing business (politics) with pleasure (football) this weekend? I mean, he DID come up with the controversial theme that's making my head hurt reading this usually entertaining board...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Secondly, what in the world is ESPN doing having Spike Lee on during their Monday Night Football telecast?  With the game being in New Orleans, there is only one direction that that conversation is going, and in my opinion, a sports telecast is not the place for that to happen.  Monday Night Football is becoming a far cry from what it used to be.  I don't think it will be long before NBC's Sunday night game is the premier game of the week.

It is disappointing to hear that kind of comment.  One of my duties last night was to hang out with Spike and guide him around the stadium.  It was unbelievable to see what he means to that city.  I have never seen so much gratitude shown to one person.  I agree in a normal setting that isn't the type of broadcast most people are looking to see but this wasn't a normal broadcast.  That night was about the city and a beacon for how far they have come.

Freebird, it's a difference of opinion, I guess.  When I sit down to watch a nationally televised football game, I want to watch the game and hear commentary on the game.  I guess I don't have a problem with Mr. Lee being a guest, but when it got into him commenting on his views on the governments handling of the situation post-Katrina, I didn't think it was appropriate.  There are plenty of other outlets for political views and personal grievances to be expressed.  Had they stuck to the jubiliant nature of the occasion, it would have been fine.

MNF goes downhill like Bethel's season.  Freebird joins the traveling circus of MNF.  Coincidence?  I think not.
MNF is actually the highest rated show on cable television and we will find out later today if we set the record last night for a cable television broadcast.

Yeah I agree with you.  I do however think this game was different due to everything that happened to the city

Hey MIACers, sounds like it was another tough in-conference game between the Johnnies and Cobbers on Saturday. Congrats to the Johnnies who seem to be on yet another roll and good luck to the Cobbers getting back on track (maybe you guys lost a lot of players from last year but I saw a tough Concordia-Moorhead team come out to McMinnville last year....)

During the time your game was going on I tuned into the Whitworth vs UW-Stout broadcast. It was sometime during the second half. I swear (this is no joke) the first thing I heard from the announcers when my connection started was, "Gagliardi blocks the kick!!!"

A Whitworth player had just blocked a key field goal attempt. I thought to myself, "Could it be?" After all, I had heard of only one other person (family) with that last name. And, the announcers actually pronounced it correctly.

It was starting to come together. It must be him! Wait...maybe it's a relative, or even someone completely unrelated. No....it's gotta be him. After all, that would be the most logical conclusion.

But then I thought, "Isn't he coaching a game right now against the Cobbers?" Yes, he is. Hmm....What a heck of a nice guy. He's coaching the Johnnies and still finding a way to play defense for Whitworth, maybe only because they're up against one of those Wisconsin schools that he wants to see get beat. But how on earth is he making it back and forth from Minnesota to Spokane, WA? Wait a second.....the game isn't in Spokane, it's in Wisconsin.....and Wisconsin borders Minnesota, right? Heck, I'm sure this game is right across the border.....he's found a way to get back and forth quickly. He IS a genius! And one heck of an athlete, especially at his age!

I then went onto the Whitworth website to check their roster. I anticipated how cool it was going to be to see his name listed. And, if you can believe it, the last name WAS listed.

Awe, but to my complete amazement the name was spelled Ghilardi. Apparently pronounced the same, but not THE same. I couldn't believe it – I was so convinced it was the old coach.

Enjoy the rest of the season!
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Freebird,

Your "holier than thou" attitude make me want to puke my after-work Hamms up.  Now, I don't mean the "holier" part in a literal sense, but it seems to me that you think your **** doesn't stink.

You're a college kid, live a little.  You don't have to act like an adult all the time.  Hell, even once you leave college you don't have to act like an adult all the time, as can be evidenced by many of the "immature and ignorant" posters that you call out all too often.  We're perfectly functioning lawyers, teachers, chemists, and many other occupations, yet we can let loose on d3football.com.  Mighty Royal has a Bethel background, and he seems to have fun with the board.  Sure, we give him a lot of crap, but he never hesitates to dish it back.

If you hate 95% of the posters on the site (as it would seem since you could name all of 3 posters that you respect, and I'd be willing to bet 105 would tell you where to stick it), why do you insist upon continuing to post?

I'm going to ignore your posts from now on, and I'd appreciate it if you would quit referencing me with your putdowns.

Hang on, there is a big difference between "hate" and respect.  Also my comments about respecting posters was about SJU posters not the board as a whole.  I made a mistake in that post by not stating that.  Either way this isn't anything I haven't heard from you before.  I have never had a good experience interacting with you even when hosting you on my campus.  In general the way I perceive you is very classless although I'm sure it isn't much different than the way you perceive me.

I'll bet you a 30 pack of Hamm's that in two years MNF's ratings will be lower than they are now.  The current announcers are three of the Seven Dwarves - Grumpy, Sleepy and Dopey - and are as bad as they've been in my memory (including Fred "The Hammer" Williamson).  No chemistry, no real energy - just an oceon of words, in which many of us find ourselves drowning when we watch.

Alright guys, seriously let's knock this off.

I'm in danger of going over to the WIAC board because they might actually be talking about football.  I think Esq. had it right, let's concentrate on the games and not the other nonsense that will just serve to bring out some animosity between folks that really do get along otherwise. (Despite the shots we might take at eachothers' teams.)
I didn't do it....yet.
