Besides the fact that Meidter's a prick and your obvious dislike of Um Ya Ya, why do the majority of you hate St. Olaf so much?

It not that I hate Olaf, it's that I hate pretty much whoever SJU is playing for the week ;D

I've seen some of the deeds that Meidt's pulled at Olaf and while at Bethel...that's why I dislike him.   Not going to get into it on the board, though.

Another reason I dislike Olaf is that they were the only MIAC team to beat us while I was playing.

And finally, Olaf has a few winning seasons and people start to think that they're unstoppable.  Olaf is only a few years removed from many Carleton-esque years and I'm sure they'll be heading back there before long.

Buckman: Don't forget the Tomczik's Johnnie get-together before and after the game.

FYI: Spoke with Dusty SJU today.  He said he did pretty well fishing up on the Gunflint Trail.  Drank plenty of Gunflint Ale (produced by Leinie's, I guess, something Veek needs to add to the Titan for future Stiffyfests).

How are the colors up in MN?  Were they peak last weekend in Collegeville?  TDT needs a little beauty and culture in his life...

and OldGold I thought the song was Um Gawa ???

You could be right.  Maybe it comes from the well documented African roots of St. Olaf.....or our first president.....Tarzan ;D

Duffman,
I wouldn't look for Olaf to go back to Carleton type seasons any time soon. With the recruiting classes they are bringing in they have clearly passed Bethel and St Thomas and are at the top of the conference with SJU and Concordia (until this year for Conc).

For saturday, expect a huge crowd because it is homecoming and everybody remembers last years embarrassment. Can't see the Oles losing this one after talking with the boys this week. Should be a good one.

Your timetable should be fine for getting a seat. One practical tip for all visitors: coming in on Hwy 19 from I35, go past the main entrance to the college. Take a left at the next main road (1/4 mile), and then another quick left on Lincoln to bring you in on the East side of the stadium. I think the college is setting up a parking lot on some of the property they have there. This should bypass all the homecoming hoopla in the center of campus and you won't have to walk down steps.

That's easy enough to say, much more difficult to do.  Bethel thought the same thing in '99 and '00 after beating SJU two in a row, but now you've relegated them to second tier.  5 decent years doesn't make a dynasty, it just gains a little bit of respect for you.

Also, I don't know how you can claim that the Oles "have clearly passed Bethel and St Thomas" when they have not played either BU or UST, and they have a winning record against teams with a combined record of 9-13 thus far.

Disclaimer:  Yes, I realize the SJU's opponent's have a combined record of 6-15 right now.

I think I just spotted Tmerton lounging in the 2nd Row behind home plate at the Coliseum drinking a Red Hook....

Whoa Nelly

When Jimmy C. retired at Concordia the 4 finalists for the job were brought on campus for their interviews and the team was able to meet with each candidate for an hour or so.  My personal perspective of those encounters obviously doesn't hold true for everyone, but I have always thought I am a decent judge of character:

Dale Hertel was a current assistant (still is) and a class act - he made his name at Fargo South and won many a state titles there.  He was an All-American and I believe the QB of a National Championship Cobber team.  More than qualified, I think the Cobbers were looking for youth though as Horan is the 3rd head coach since 1941 and they enjoy the longevity.  Dale is an excellent X's and O's guy.

Mike Grant - obviously Bud Grant's son and EP coach.  Didn't make huge waves, was just kind of there.  Seemed like a good guy.  Some kids were thinking how neat it would be to to have Bud's kid coaching, but I don't know how seriously they were considering him.

Horan - Dale Hertel minus 10-15 years - class act, great recruiter, energetic, successful as high school coach, All-American, etc. etc.

Meidt - I think a few players liked the idea of an offensive coach like him as Concordia had traditionally, even in their few down years of the late 90's, had a fairly stout defense.  Points were usually at a premium for the Cobbs so it excited some kids.  Most indications though, were that one could actually see the arrogance coming out of his nose when he exhaled.

LOL!  I have a friend that played hockey at Olaf, and he said he got the same impression of the guy.

Hmmmm. No posts by finsleft since Tuesday at noon.  :(  :-\

SJU Long Weekend, no school Thursday and Friday. I believe Fin's and sons were headed north for grouse and Hamm's

That's good to hear sumander.  :) +k
Greetings from God's Country and the wonders of dial-up connections. More grouse than Hamm's, since the local store doesn't carry it, so I'm settling for Miller Lite. Birds are fairly plentiful and weather and fall collors are beeyootiful. Had to haul the laptop since the pickems weren't up by the time I left. >:(
If any of you see a wierd phone # on your cell phone during the game, it's probably me calling for an update with a calling card.
Go Johnnies and y'all have a great weekend!

BDB

Dial up? You are in the sticks!  :D

Have a good time and watch out for the bears at the dump!

I'm in the capitol of Stickville.

Forgot to mention, yesterday we were walking down a trail waaaay deep in the woods. Been on it many a time and never saw another soul. Yesterday, we meet up with 2 hunters, one wearing an Augsburg t-shirt. Turns out they're both Auggie students, originally from Int'l Falls, home for the weekend. Nice guys.
