ROR-

Yeah, its been a long time coming.  He has been moved from CB to safety and he did a nice job for playing that position for the first time.  When we spoke after the game, he seemed genuinely happy with his play and the game overall, which he deserves since he has been a "good soldier" for UST.  I am very proud of the way he has handled his situation, and it is nice to see him "get rewarded".  UST defense is good and seems to be getting better.  I think they have only given up 7 TDs in 5 games.

Here's a fun fact for you, my son's high school class of only 34 students has produced 2 UST starters.  In fact if we include another classmate who played at Mac, their class would have produced 3 starters to the MIAC.  sort of neat for a small 1A team

Yeah, that first PF appears to have dug SJU out of a hole and initiated the 2nd scoring drive. If my count's correct, STO "leads" SJU 5-0 in PFs the last two games ...

Sounds about right, seems that when things start going downhill for Meidt's teams they start to make some bad decsions and then the PFs start coming.  From the sound of the broadcasters there should have been at least 2-3 more PFs in the game that were overlooked. I know one was on the next play, obvously there's a pattern with teams that are known for this and they all have the same head coach.  Hmmmm....  :-\

Knights,
Congrats to your son for sticking with it . . . and it's good to see his perseverance has been rewarded.

St. Olaf is pretty cheap.  I was late for the game and caught part of it on the radio.  I listened to 920 AM which carries the St. Olaf games out of NOrthfield.  Those announcers seemed to thing St. Olaf was getting hosed and that SJU deserved more penalties.  I guess they have a right to their bias.  I spoke with one SJU fan who sat on the 50 yard line in the SOC stands.   Some SOC fans asked what he was doing on the 50 yard line at their field and he said that he was watching the game.  They said that they don't come to the SJU field and sit on the 50 yard line and he said that they'd at least have the opportunity because we have nice stands on the visitor's side.  Has anyone else experienced  this kind of garbage.  I remember when the SOC stadium was 75% Johnnie fans and barely 25% Ole fans.  If they don't like us sitting there, why don't they do more to get their own fans to go to the games or build stands on the other side?  When you have to give free tickets to all people as long as they are wearing something SOC, it's time to really look at your program.  I don't think SOC is doing that this year but I remember them doing it not too long ago.

Touchdown Tommy

Ok time to move on to Gustavus Adolphus College.  My inside sources tell me that they have a really good QB named Jordan Stolp and a solid defense led by Jared Sieling.  Also, I believe this is the week that Veek and Fins are in charge of tag teaming the Stiffyfest as the Godfather is going to Boulder to make sure his daughter isn't shacking up with any of Touchdown Tommy's cousins.  Make it a good event fellas.  I think some shotgunning would be appropriate.

Chewey,
The guy that sat next to me also recalled the no charge admission policy not too many years ago.
Stands on the other side of the field would be a nice addition.
Once again another concession stand runs out of something.....BEVERAGES
most schools in the MIAC don't understand that Johnnie fans travel well. I've come to expect things such as you & your friend experienced yesterday, because I have seen it time & time again. About six or seven years ago at Bethel, the visitors stands were in such bad shape with broken planking etc.... my sister-in-law almost fell through (one leg did drop down before we caught here) if she would have fallen through, with all the lawyers available I'm sure the new name would be "SJU East Campus" ;D

One thing the Johnnies were lacking yesterday was a solid pass rush.  No sacks when the Oles threw 46 times?  Got to get that going.

Good game by the Johnnies yesterday.

The first EP was a designed fake, so the J's were perfect on all attempted kicks yesterday.  When was the last time that happened.

Meidt's unsportsmanlike was awesome.  He was just going off on the ref as he was walking towards Meidt on the sidelines.   Finally the ref yells out "What do you think about 15 yards coach?" and then dropped the flag.  Classic.

I too was confused how you can run out of beverages before the 2nd quarter even starts.

In regards to the St. John's pass rush, the Ole passing game is very quick and timing related.  Most times it was shot-gun and 3 steps and the ball was out.  Even if you went untouched, you'd have a tough time getting to the quarterback.

Talked to Johnnie Red for just a minute as I was leaving yesterday, and yes he will be in Boulder next week.

Still working on plans for next Saturday as it is our anniversary.  I figured what better way to spend an anniversary than at beautiful Clemens Stadium watching the Johnnies.  So far, we don't seem to be in agreement.

True, but not all of those 46 attempts were quick passes.  Not saying we needed to sack him everytime, but we needed to get more pressure on him.  With more pressure, we should have seen some of those passes knocked down.

Speaking of pressure, did St. John's blitz at all yesterday, or were the linebackers always dropping back into coverage?  If they did blitz, it wasn't very often.  Overall, I think the defense played well.  Yes they did give up nearly 400 yards of offense, but 150 or so came in the 4th quarter when the game was well in hand.  And for a team like Olaf to have 29 completions, you'd expect them to have way more than 300 yards passing.  What I mean is with the speed and size of their receivers, to hold them to an average of 10 yards per catch is, in my opinion, well defended.

Game of the Week: Um Ya Ya @ Concordia

Let's hear more about this beverage shortage.  Like they ran out of soda and water?  I've never been to St. Olaf but that is downright busch league.  Money?  Who needs money?

Olaf's QB didn't really throw a long ball really well.  It looked nice enough, but they weren't near the receivers.  Olaf has some great speed at receiver, and they beat us deep a few times, but your QB still has to deliver the ball within a few yards of the receiver, which he couldn't seem to do.

Yes, water, soda, everything.  I know they were out with 12 minutes left in the second quarter, and heard that they were out before then.  I did see some people coming down the hill at half time with cases of various liquids when I was on my way to get some water from my car.

It had nothing to do with the Johnnies traveling well either.  At that pace, by half time they would not have had enough for their homecoming crowd without any SJU fans.

TDT:
They ran out of everything to drink!
Funny story from the concession stand. Me & Mrs.105 got to the campus before noon. Prior to kick off I went to buy some snacks, saw Duffman on the way. I got $7.50 worth of items & gave the young lady $22.50, she then looked at me like I was from another planet. I said, "I did that to make it easier for you, just give me $15.00 change." They must not teach the "new math" at  St. Olaf. I'm sure a Carleton student would have no problem with that ;)

Also, I have to say the campus is my second favorite stop in the MIAC. The setting and the architecture are outstanding.

As I said before, if the Cobbers can score early, the Ole Defense will fold like a cheap suit. The coaching staff have mentally beaten these boys so badly, most of them looked yesterday they had no interest in hearing the same lame story from the coaching staff.

On the no Ole sighting on MIACPP- did you think it would be any different? They are front runners. Many SJU posters will point out the weaknesses in this team i.e. kicking game, pass defense, consistent running game. We have been through this many times in the past & know what a run deep in the play-offs looks like. SJU needs some work, they should be in prime form by now.Luckily the Gusties are down this year & next week will be another week of work to get crisp for Tommies & the bouncing Bethel Royals.

BTW: Meidt did bring the stupid bouncing "defenses, defense, defense" cheer from Bethel to Olaf. As we all know Bethel ripped that off from the Dukies.
