BTW: Meidt did bring the stupid bouncing "defenses, defense, defense" cheer from Bethel to Olaf. As we all know Bethel ripped that off from the Dukies.

I found that funny...and annoying as heck...too!

A tradition unrivaled...

Next time the Johnnies travel to St. Olaf, the Johnnie faithful need to get the words to the stupid Um Ya Ya song & sing it every time the Johnnies score :D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

A couple of things.

1. Who schedules their Homecoming game against the Johnnies?  Only an arrogant Chris Meidt...  ::)

2. Remind me to tell my great personal experience with Mr. Meidt at my next Stiftungsfestivities appearance.  It is classic.  I know KR feels me on this.  Frank, Mongo, Walter, Wonka, OAS all have good stories as well...

3. Do they have the metal bleachers at Olaf like they do at Bethel?  To me there is no better sound then hearing the silence of the crowd after a big 3rd/4th down conversion when playing against the obnoxious DO NO GOOD "defense, defense, defense" chant.

I thought Homecoming was supposed to be a game where you scheduled someone you knew you could dominate like Hamline, Mac, Auggie, or GAC, to show your alumni that your school is a powerhouse.

Apparently it's a chance to show them how far behind the Johnnies your program really is, particularily in the coaching dept.

That was a hilarious e-mail.
I hear Mike Johnson is still cold... crazy stuff. Possibly TDT and KR's 2nd greatest stunt of sophomore year behind the obvious front runner.

Duff, remember 2004 when everytime we had a 3rd down and they did that crap we got a minimum of 15 yards?
Hilarious.
I say SJU fans should, particularily the newly built SJU Student section should start doing that against Bethel and Olaf to show them how reeeeedickalous it is.

PS. Someone asked for The words to Um Yah Yah??

QuoteWe come from St. Olaf, we sure are the real stuff.
Our team is the cream of the colleges great.
We fight fast and furious, our team is injurious.
Tonight Carleton College will sure meet its fate.

Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah! Yah!

Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah! Yah!

Maybe I should edit/update that for them:

We come from St. Olaf, we think we are the stuff.
Our arrogant coach's name is Meidt.
We fight cheap and furious, our team leads the MIAC in personal fouls.
We pick on all the weak then fall flat on our face against good teams.

Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!
Um! Yah! Yah! Yah!

Um! Yah! Yah!, Um! Yah! Yah!

I still gotta work on getting the rythym worked out :P
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

My little girl shacking up with TDT's cousins in Boulder?? :P YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING! :o She had better not be shacking up with anyone. Before she went off to UC, I warned her that if there was any inappropriate conduct on her part, she would be transferring to Bethel for college. Upon hearing this, she almost started to cry and said, "Dad, I promise you, I will do anything to avoid having to attend that school in Arden Hills." Enough said. ;D

As already mentioned, rather interesting sitting behind the Ole bench yesterday and watching the theatrics of their coaches. Beautiful campus and great town. I will be back to Oleland on November 4 for the state high school cross-country championship.

Veek and Fins will be in charge of the Stiftungsfestivities next Saturday when the Gusties come to Collegeville. The theme is "We Love Lutherans and green jello!" If you are attending, be sure to bring some exotic jello along to share. Another idea that has been suggested would be some jello shots. 8)

What would you think about having an Octoberfest theme for the Piper game on October 21? Polka music, German garb and that adult beverage made in New Ulm. Sounds like we will be having a huge Stiftungsfestivities party on October 28 when we travel to Tommieland.

Anyone see the most recent issue of City Pages? On the cover is a drawing of Michelle Bachmann. She is looking up into the sky with the clouds parting and a beam from Heaven coming down towards her. The title of the article is "The Chosen One." :P

57Johnnie

I thought that the announcer's best line yesterday was that the fans at Manitou didn't have much to 'UM YA YA' about.
  :'(
The older the violin - the sweeter the music!

Veek

I haven't talked to Fins yet about next week but I'll be there with the grills on.

JR - are you sending any Stiftungsfest up I-94 with someone so we can grill those awesome burgers?

TDT - sorry about not posting much.  Too busy at work to post as often as I would like to.

Listened to the J's yesterday on the radio.  Kofoed seemed to throw the ball well.  The J's obviously still have things to work on including their pass rush as Duff mentioned but I know they will continue to improve.

The Oles play cheap and their coach is an ass!  Enough said.
Go Johnnies!!!

Anyone out there who could get the Stiftungsfest burger up to Collegeville this Saturday for me? I would have to get it to you by this Thursday since my flight to Denver is on Friday. KR, any chance you could make the trip back to Chaska this week and be the transport person once again? You did such a great job in `03. ;)

Ok time to move on to Gustavus Adolphus College.  My inside sources tell me that they have a really good QB named Jordan Stolp and a solid defense led by Jared Sieling.

Stolp's line against Bethel -- 4-18, 3 INT, 26 yards, a slice of bench in the fourth after his last pick. His first INT was thrown under zero pressure into quadruple coverage and hit the Royal defender in the gut. He couldn't help but catch it.

This perfectly illustrates my good/evil Stolp example from a few weeks ago. His freshman season against Bethel he threw seven picks and the Gusties lost 28-17. Last year, he avoided INTs altogether and GAC pulled the upset, 24-22. This year's performance was atrocious and only partly due to the BU defense.

The defense has played well this year, but it's been put in too many AWFUL positions. Two snaps on punts were muffed/shot over the punter's head, while the Gusties threw 4 INTs yesterday. Without double checking the facts, I think the Royals started within the Gustie 30 on four drives. Even the '85 Bears (or '06 Bethel  ::) ) couldn't overcome that. Especially with an offense that's looking worse than the Vikes.

Just a frustrating situation at GAC right now. Frank is gone next week, but I may be making it up as the lone GAC representative next week. I'm currently trying to do some recruiting. Developing...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

As a wholly disinterested observer (I support a Pennsylvania MAC team), I have to ask: why so much apparent animus v. the St. Olaf coach? (Is it because he has a Bethel background?  ;))

Serious open question to any Ole with accurate knowledge.

I saw a sign at the concession stand that said "Tips are appreciated, room & board $38,500.00" This being said to get to the question at hand. With over 20 players on the roster from Flordia, do these kids get "need based scholarships"? If Sven Olsen or Lina Anderson from Anytown,Minnesota pay full boat do kids with an economic need and a special skill(football) get a reduced rate? Another way to ask would be if Lina Anderson is from New York Mills, MN and can sing like an angel, yet her parents make minimum wage at the lefsa factory would she get a "need based scholarship" to attend St. Olaf & sing in the choir? I used choir because I know they are world class.

Well, I am not an Ole, but I think I can give you "accurate knowledge"! ;D Assuming that the Oles are playing by the rules, there are no athletic scholarships. Does this mean that none of the players are on some type of scholarship? No. A need based scholarship is just that, the student/family has to be able to demonstrate that they are high need (usually done by completing the FAFSA and or Profile). Another type of scholarship is a diversity based scholarship. This is used by schools to bring in students that meet the profile of what the school deems is an under-represented population on campus. This can be based on ethnicity, socioeconomic status or even first generation college students. Schools also have merit based scholarships that are awarded on grades/SAT/ACT scores or on talent such as vocal ability. Should a student be awarded a need based scholarship based on being able to "sing like an angel"? No. Could they be awarded a merit based scholarship for their vocal talent? Yes. As to SOC's Florida students, they could be paying full price or be at the school on any number of different scholarships. It is often cheaper for a student to attend a private school (due to institutional grants/scholarships) than it is to attend a out of state public school. For example, the cost of attendance (tuition, room+board, etc) at UO for a non resident undergrad is $29,343. I could go on...and on, but I will stop here. :D If anyone wants more info, feel free to pm me.

The Ole fans could have used a little more class yesterday. My wife, father, sister and brother-in-law made the journey from New Ulm to yesterday's game in Northfield. The five of us were standing near the gate greeting various SJU fans, talking (haven't seen them in 3 months, that is, everyone aside from the wife), when a heavy-set gentlemen (Ole fan) wheels over to us in a wheelchair. Evidently we had "hassle us" written on our foreheads, because he started badgering us verbally for being Johnnie fans. Right in the middle of a friendly conversation with my family, he starts in with "you don't have a chance today...good luck in a couple years...looks like you will be dreaming of a national championship in a couple years...you won't be winning the MIAC this year or any years to come....must have been classy to take a knee against Ramler last week, etc." Meanwhile we stood there in shock and ignored him as he "rolled" away giggling like a 5-year old.

After I ascended to the pressbox, my family found a large open area at the 50-yard line (this is before the SJU fans gathered at the one end of the grandstand). After sitting there for 30 minutes, a pair of St. Olaf fans (adult men) approached my family and told them to leave, saying "we don't sit at the 50-yard line when we come to your place (what's funny is that at Clemens Stadium, you can sit on the 50-yard line...in your own visitor's seating)....why don't you go over and sit with your friends over there," etc. while others chimed in as well. Shocked once again, my family got up and left without saying much more than "well I know at our place, they would be a bit more polite about it." As they got up and left, all of the St. Olaf fans began applauding.

After the game, my brother-in-law searched all over to find the gentleman in the wheel chair to no avail.

Wow lots of anecdotes of bad experiences at Olaf yesterday.  Sounds to me like they are trying to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the visiting team's fans.  Too bad it doesn't have an effect inside the white lines.  Are we seeing the emergence of Bethel South?

The morbidly obese "gentleman" in the wheelchair was quite fun to watch.  On the int for the TD that was called back, he actually got out of his chair to cheer!
