Skunks - I'm all for it!

Sounds like SJU is figuring some things out with their game. Thanks for the update Duff. Looking forward to a stomp on Saturday.

Some birds...

and the hunting shack in the background...

Nice shootin', Fins and Fins Juniors!  Will the birds be on the menu for Saturday? ;D

Thanks Duff. You know how it is. Like fishing, the time you get the lunker makes up for all the lonely hours in the boat when nothing's happening. But even those "down" times are good times.
If I don't cook the few birds I have left tonight, I'll freeze 'em until Saturday.
BTW, JR, I still have the leftover burger from homecoming, which I will bring on Saturday.

We saw more birds in 3 days than we did in the last 5 years combined. Reminded me of the good ol' days. I had heard they were on the start of the upswing in their cycle, but I can't imagine it getting any better.
It's really dry up in our neck of the woods this year. Maybe that has something to do with it.
We had breast of grouse fried in butter, grouse McNuggets, and tonight might be grouse and veggies and gravy in the crock pot. And a cold Hamm's. And the Johnnies are undefeated. Could life possibly be any better? Oh, I suppose the Twins could be playing tomorrow night, but...

Congrats  on the birds. Nice to see they're on the upswing. Time to start using the .22 ...

Where are you? Back in the old days we used to do very well at some spots around Big Falls and another near Ray.

That's encouraging to hear. My guess is you must be more over toward the Chippewa Nat'l Forest

Between Orr and Int'l. Falls. If you want GPS coordinates, you'll have to beat it out of me. ;) Article in the paper yesterday said great hunting in Grand Rapids area. From what I've heard, it's pretty good everywhere. Except Detroit Lakes.  :(

On a football note, I wouldn't be surprised if Alex Kofoed is named MIAC offensive player of the week.

Me either -- as I got an e-mail to that effect six minutes before you edited your post at 1:49 ET. :)

Odds of that are pretty slim, I'm an old, old fart. :)  . . . so old that I used to by my beer from Bronko Nagurski.

Haven't been back to the area in a long time but have tons of great memories -- also where I met the wife.

Those guys at the MIAC are good! They seem to know what I'm thinking before I even get a chance to post it here. Impressive!

Hello To All Johnnies!

I am going to propose this on here, and on the OAC board.  I think it's time for SJ and Mount to play a home/home opening game of the season.  That would be an awesome way to start the season.  I know I would really look forward to journeying to the SJU campus to experience a game at SJU first-hand.
Mount has Averett at home next year, but they are open the following year (2008) for the first game.  What is the Johnnies upcoming opener schedule look like for the next few years?

I just think it would be fitting for the winningest coach of all time, to play the winningest coach in the last decade and a half.

I think that is a great idea, as well.  I would love to see the Johnnies take the Purple Raiders out behind the Pine Curtain just once...  However, I really don't like SJU's chances playing MUC that early in the season.  There has got to be a better way of rushing into your first full-contact action of the year.

(Especially for MUC) I don't think the game would have any negative effect on the teams making the postseason.  I can't see an 8-2 Mount Union missing the playoffs if their two losses are to (presumably) top-ranked SJU and the OAC champion.  While it's possible an 8-2 SJU is left out, I think that would be a strange occurence--and I don't really mind St. John's getting the 7th seed in the West.  Obviously, if the teams finished the season 9-1 or 10-0 the game could only help them come playoff time.

I know it seems like the Ole fans are quiet, but some of us were never obnoxiously talking crap on here in the first place.  I religiously read this board because I love football and love the MIAC but just don't feel the need to try and bash a football team that I have to worry about beating my team, and as it turns out that was a smart decision by me.  The Johnnies played far better than the Oles.  But that is not the Olaf team that I have seen all year.  I will not use excuses like the refs bad calling.  That is not what lost the game.  If your team should win, you should win regardless of the calls made against your team in the game.  It may have changed the momentum in the beginning but as a team they should have known that it sucks and to just bring it that much harder.  that did not happen.  Congrats on the win Johnnies!!  Good luck to all MIAC teams!   And good luck to the Oles, who knows might still make it to playoffs this year.

I'll echo what some other people said--sucks your school lost, nice post, better team won, etc., etc.

Presumably, St. Olaf's playoff fate is still in their own hands.  I really hope they run the table because a second MIAC team would make the playoffs that much better.  The road certainly doesn't get a lot easier for the Oles, does it--@C-M, @BU, v. CAR in a rivalry game, @UST?  Yikes.  Looks like all of the gimmes are out of the way.

True true.  We do indeed have a few tougher games ahead of us.  I do think that the Oles can do it though!  They gotta step it up a little bit after this last weeks game but I feel like they can pull through and hopefully get a spot in the playoffs.
