Apparently I've open a bag of worms on this one - just wanted to clarify what i said in my prior post, which was that more than one player told me the story about Meidt at different times in the night.  There definetely could have been a misunderstanding to what was said, as Oldtimefan pointed out.  But when you hear the same story from different people at different times, it makes you wonder.

I played against Meidt at Bethel and at St. Olaf, and have known about him for years having grown up in West Central Minnesota, not far from Minneota, Meidt's home town.  I think his reputation may have preceeded him on this one, since no one who was actually on the field really knows for sure what was said.  He's definetely an intense guy who is probably yelling alot of things during the game, probably all of which are just stuff trying to fire up the players in a positive way.

Needless to say, we could argue why the starters were in - but I don't think Horan was doing anything wrong having Williamson in the game at that point.  We were getting our asses handed to us.
To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

Moving back to Florida, where there definitely were problems this weekend, there is an ironic - and sad - footnote to the FIU-Miami fracas.  It seems the Miami Police Department had taken 700 youths to the game for "Join a team, not a gang" promotion.

You can't make this stuff up.  :-X

retiredole;

Fact is your Ole players play beyond the whistle.  Over the years I've seen lots of MIAC matches and "foul play" is easy to identify.  Just like dirty diapers, and I've seen a few of those, "dirty" play sticks out like the odor it leaves.

Playing beyond the whistle is hard to defend because lots of other folks have seen the same thing and all of them would agree with me.  Whether or not coach Meidt wanted someone "taken out" is another conversation... as an inseason retired player do us all a favor and ask him.

I'm guessing he prolly just meant "Tackle the SOB"!

retiredole,

1.  "does Gagliardi know the names of ALL his players??": Well with a roster of 181 players and the fact that he will turn 80 on Nov. 1, there's your answer. Can he still outcoach Meidt? Well I'll let others answer that for themselves.
2. "Meidt is available ANYTIME anyone needs to talk about ANYTHING, not just football": Obviously you don't know Gagliardi or have stepped foot in his office.

I stopped by Gag's office the week before the 2003 National Championship and poked my head in to wish him good luck. I never played football at SJU and had never spoken to the man before in my life.
Gags lookedup from his desk and thanked me. He then asked me what my name was, my year and my major. We ended up shooting the breeze about me growing up in Ohio and about how I ended up coming to SJU for 10 minutes.

retiredole - Brings to mind OAS's first "meeting" with Gags. He sent him an email with questions for an upcoming story and had a response within the hour. That's impressive as OAS wrote at the time, as olds guys like ROR and Veek usually have trouble finding their twig-and-berries much less time to type out thoughtful responses  ;)

In a related question...how can STO only travel 5 LBs? Not trying to nitpick, but it makes me curious. Isn't 6 - with a back-up at each position - the more typical number, with more accounting for special teams play? I believe GAC traveled 8-9 in my day, though we did play a 4-4...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Speaking of MIAC football, I just checked the MNF stats and Rex Grossman has Parnelled his way to 2 INT's and 2 fumbles.

That is the only way the 1-4 Cardinals will beat the 5-0 Bears.

The obvious difference being your team will still make the playoffs and actually win games once there :o

My Packers have apparently opted to stay home from the playoffs again this year to prevent un-necessary injuries.

Also, watching PTI today and Tony K. was wearing a bright, red blazer with a sweet PTI patch on it.  He must have been rooting for Arizona tonight!

Senor RedTackle

Hello my peers from the MIAC...Redtackle checking in from the Liberty League. Good photo hunts going on in our house this evening if you wish to stop by.

KR....what's up chief? How the Johnnies looking so far? Haven't paid too much attention outside of LL this year (sorry).

My Bears are playing like the Bears of 2 years ago.  I can't believe they can play so badly, should have figured when Grossman overthrew Berriman when he was behind the defense on the first play from scrimmage it was going to be a long night.

I said last year that I though Meidt was a joke after he ran it up against UST.  I can understand how other coaches don't seem to like, or respect him, and it sounds like he is up to it again, what a jerk.  Why can't he win with class, without trying to show up the other team?

The UST SID did a nice piece on my son and his high school teamate at http://www.stthomas.edu/tommies/news.cfm?ArticleID=4512 for those of you interested.  I am obvioulsy pretty proud of him, both on and off the field

Kilted,

Pat McKenzie Sr. will probably want to retire from his role as team doc for the Slackers
in a few more years.  Maybe a role for you after your Naval stint.  :)

God willing! That would be the definition of a dream job!

I am actually hoping to do a rotation there at some point in time, maybe use the fact that I graduated with Pat to get an in.

RT,
KR's been busy as hell, rotations require a lot more time during the day than classes did hence the marked decreased in posting during the 9-5 hours.

SJU looking good enough to win every week so far, the boys need to shore some areas up if they wanna make a run. How are the Engineers looking? Any stud EngiNegro's on the team this year?
