Yippee for Porta...how many conference championships and playoff wins go with that record?

HA....I don't care how many playoff games we have lost...it doesn't matter, he still holds the record and that is pretty amazing considering the awesome Rb's who have gone through the league...Barkley, Johson, etc

Mighty Royal

I understand you being proud of this record but as I sit and watch the gophers I can't help but think of the Maroney and Barber playing for the U and having two of the best offensive linemen in the big ten at the same time.  As a team they never did squat and all those amazing yards and numbers they piled up mean nothing.

I see your point, but Porta, nonetheless, has completed an outstanding achievement regardless of the lack of post-season wins...he also has a few more games to amass more yardage on the ground to cushion his accomplishment!

Mighty Royal

I did say Yippee!  I'd pat him on the back but my arm doesn't reach up to Arden Hills.

Gophers still suck!  The students should boo and chant "Fire Mason" every chance they get.  Maybe he'll leave on his own!

Oh oh.  Gags gets a "Meidt" ;)

Just got on the board ROR,  what does this mean?
Thanks, inquiring minds and all..,.
and added to their lead today
What TDT said.

St. Olaf is leading the league in personal fouls by a large margin.
... and added to their lead today.

Porta looked incredible, especially in the 2nd half, as he broke loose for 158 yards in the 2nd half, for 236 on the day...give credit where credit is due- the kid is one of the greatest RBs to ever play in the MIAC. Talk to defensive players from any team and they will tell you the same.

Playoff-like atmosphere at BU today and with similar atomsphere exepected  @ UST Sat and again 11/11 for the finale.

KR--- Barkley started all 4 years, but his senior year he was hampered by a string of injuries that caused him to miss a few games and left him ineffective much of the year.  A fully healthy Barkley would maybe have had another 450-500 yards, which I think Porta woudl have still been able to beat.

KR, I was there today, and even the johnnie loyal would have enjoyed this game.  It was good football. I think  that Wetzell will have to be looked at as a weapon soon, as Porta broke the record, it was Wetzell that continues to amaze the Royal fans.    Great game Wetzell, I do not know the stats yet, but it was a great effort on his part.  The Oles did not allow much defensive pressure, which is a concern. We will have to play better from here on out.

I was about ready to give up on this board because you have to filter through 12 pages to find 5 posts that are actually about football.  The last few pages have been mostly about football; how refreshing.

What an accomplishment by Porta.  He got his name mentioned on the WCCO 6 pm news for scoring a big touchdown, but I don't remember anything said about the record.  I was listening while making supper, so I could have missed a quick statement.

Could be a couple of tough weeks coming up for the Johnnies.  I hope SJU doesn't start as slowly next week as they did this afternoon.  I also hope Porta has more trouble finding daylight three weeks from now than he did today.

How did Hamline beat Carleton?  Having seen both teams, it seems nearly impossible.

Retired Old Rat

Congratualations to Porta.  It is a great accomplishment.  Going to be very hard to top.

If Mason had any honor he would resign.  He took to Gophers from embarrassing to slightly above mediocre.  Looks like he's moved the bus into reverse.

Why was Brian Weber not thrown to today?  I don't recall his name being mentioned once.

Gearman,Gearman,Gearman- 5 catches & 3 TDs

There could be another kicker contoversy, the Russ Giladon kid out of Fridley had booming kick offs with 2 or 3 touchbacks & perfect on PATs he did not attempt a FG

Can I be the first to say it is now officially Tommie week- you know what that means

TOMMIES SUCK!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

OMR: What happened to your boy Anthony Schmidt?

Look out Toms the Juggernaut is rollin now.  Prepare for a world of hurt.

Funny Porta can run for a million yards.  But he still has fumble-itis and still can't beat SJU.  Case closed.

Thanks your President

RE: Gearman and DustySJU's REQUEST this week

We have nostradamus on our hands.  Wise ole Dusty placed the necessary calls and demanded more touches for the Johnnies superstar.  5 catches, 139, and 3 TDs.  Ho hum, ho hum, not bad for 2.5 qtrs of work.  Feed him the ball...

Johnnie Watchers;

Just call me "Nostra-Dusty"!

I'm a satisfied man this Saturday night - Kyle Gearman touches the ball more than the Johnnie starting center and finishes 2 1/2 quarters with 3 touchdowns....

Like I said, "Just give'em the damn ball"!

Any other questions?

Ok, it was a split decision.... Tommies win as I called it (the mighty have fallen) and the Royals upset everyone and beat on Ole.....

ROR;  As for Brian Weber.... I saw him catch a few balls in warm-ups... guess he was the designated decoy today...

As for Mighty Royal.. when would you like to schedule tea so we can lament the season that is Bethel?  From your rants you won't be satisfied until every Johnnie fan in the twin farms stops by your apartment and shakes your hand.

Next Saturday:  Beat down on the Tommie.

Developing......

Waiting to hear "Stanton on the tackle, boy is he a mean SOB"...

Actually, I'm told that on the kickoff to Hamline after the second Johnnie TD, #50 hit the blocking back so hard he flew back into the ball carrier and brought him down - a "two-fer"!  8)

Tmerton, that one was a doozy!  He literally crushed the blocker.  I was a thing of beauty.

Good for Porta.  It's a very impressive record, as I remember how good Johnson and Barkley were.

My thoughts on the SJU game, for what it's worth:

If the offense comes out like they did the first half, us Johnnie fans will have plenty of free weekends in November and December.  They looked dreadful.  Luckily, they really turned it on, and the defense really did their job (13 yards in the half--give me a break).

Kofoed is an enigma to me.  One play he throws a little dump pass in the middle that lands 5 feet in front of the receiver.  The next, he throws a gorgeous 46 yard TD to Gearman.  We need some consistency!!!

It's got to feel terrible to have the same guy run the same route three times in a row for a TD each time.  I can only hope it wasn't the same DB trying to cover him.  That string of scores really got the guys back on track.

Nice to see a decent running game.  I thought Blackmore looked good as a second string guy.

The defense looked stellar.  Actually, it looked like Hamline didn't have an o-line for most of the afternoon.  I'll have to look at the stats, but there were a lot of sacks and several pass knock-downs by the d-line.

Hamline was POOR.  Tough to throw completions when your receivers flat out drop the ball.  I can only imagine how bad Mayville State was.

The Stiftungsfestivities was fun--small and chilly, but some great people were there.  Even Johnnie Esq managed to show up.  And the Raiderguy Jello Shots were once again great.

Make sure to wear red on Saturday, as was announced at the game.  And get ready for some fun on Cretin.  I have a feeling some shotgunning may return to the Stiftungfestivities this week.

TOMMIES SUCK.
