sjusection105--

Haven't asked my son about the disparity in student attendance at the SJU games, but his being a 5th year senior I think he has come to expect it, and it doesn't really affect the team much.  I would guess that if UST was a bit more competitive vs. SJU that you might see more students attending the game.  I think you also need to take into account the large number of day students that attend UST that aren't residing on-campus, just a thought.

SJU faithful--Thanks for the assessment of the UST team, The only thing I will say in defense of the offense is that with Thiesen hurt, they didn't have their "go-to" wide receiver but with the little time Sauer had it might not have mattered.  Offense is very bland and you would think they could come up with a little more variety.

Already stoked for the Royals.  So, Fins - you going to join us that weekend?  (If you want to shoot deer, we have plenty here in the neighborhood that I have to drive around on the way to work in the morning.  Come visit!)

tmerts- Looks like I will be hunting that weekend after all. Just realized Fins IV has a 4 day weekend that weekend so that's the only time he'll be able to hunt. I would love to startle both the CA deer and local populace by stomping around in blaze orange with my rifle. I imagine the PETA folks would really get going after I field-dressed a furry critter in the boulevard. :o
I hate to miss the game and the opportunity to socialize with my CA friends, but I have a family to feed. And after a stomp on the 11th, and the Blue Devils upset UWW this week, we should have a few home playoff games.

Which of the posters is the Mt. Union fan?  I have a questions for him but not sure who to address it to.  Any help appreciated?

Thanks

Whoa Nelly

I took in the first 2.5 quarters of SJU/UST.  I held true to my rule of leaving after it was a 3 score game.  I watched the game from underneath the south goal post & UST's offensive line appeared a little lost – but a good SJU defense has something to do with that.

If I were SJU I would keep their QB as far away from the option as possible until playoffs.  Some SJU fans I chatted with said he has a bum thumb and there is a big drop off from him and the 2nd stringer.  Every time he kept the ball on Saturday I just thought about that thumb getting bent every which way when he hit the turf.  Against a great defense in the playoffs they may need to mix it in but it seemed an unnecessary risk against UST.  Outside of the one fumble when SJU's QB was rushed off the edge, SJU needs to really cut down on unforced turnovers.  There was no question to whom the better team was – I was a little disappointed as an unbiased fan - I was holding out hope for a close game going into the 4th quarter.

I was standing next to a few Bennies who were either drunk & stupid or just stupid.  When you have a Paris Hilton vocabulary and you're telling anyone with ears how much UST sucks and how much harder it is to get into SJU/CSB you lose some credit – regardless of where your scholastic allegiance is.  When I kindly informed them that it has as much or more to do with your parents W-2 as it does your ACT score I was looked at like I had just asked Paris Hilton herself to get a job.

a couple thoughts from this weekend--

Congrats to SJU on the conference title. hopefully Bethel gets it's share, but I have my doubts, I'm not very optimistic about the Royals chances.

Bethel dominates Hamline, but its Hamline, nothing to get too excited about, although it was another good performance by the offense. Still fumbled it three times, which is to be expected. Wont get away with that against a good team (i.e., Johnnies).

Halloween: every college guy's Christmas. What other days of the year do girls get a green light to dress up like complete sluts and it's not only accepted but actually encouraged? I love this holiday.

Raiderguy--
Do you have a neighbor who is originally from New Prague and a UST alum?

ROR--
Thanks for the great pictures of my boy from the game Saturday.  I may have to purchase a few.  It would have been a great picure if he would have hit the kid (number 18 I think)who went up for the high pass and taken his legs out instead of just grabbing him.  Thanks again for your efforts, much appreciated.

Nelly- my sources inside the white stone castles on Cretin tell me that UST's acceptance letters have a lot more to do with parental W2 forms than those at CSB/SJU.

I don't doubt that the students you met had been drinking, having a little buzz is the only way Bennies and Johnnies who aren't playing in the games themselves can stomach being on the UST campus.

Duffman:

As Dusty, Carbo & myself a.k.a. "The Three Wisemen" sat together at the UST game we couldn't help but wonder what Duffman was thinking of the SJU Offense. Outside of the turnovers, which are not acceptable, things seemed to flow pretty well. Patnode does need some new or different shoes. Kofoed 1.)kept the ball on the option several times. 2.) Limited his rolling right, throwing left while throwing off his back foot. 3.)Spread the ball around well to 11 different receivers that I can think of. ***To OAS, those 11 were not on the field at the same time. The Johnnies play by the rules and have 5 linemen at all times ;D

There was enough on the game film to keep Bethel and any potential play- off opponent's heads swimming for some time. Did you notice that Luberts ran out of the "Blake Formation"? We know Jerry has the "D" peaking at the right time. I think John & Jimmy will have the "O" peaking at the right time as well!

I didn't really think about it at the time, but you're right, we did some things very well on offense.  I hope we can keep those things up and eliminate the turnovers.  We really struggled to finish drives, but we moved the ball really well for the most part.  That Dimond kid at tackle is big.  Don't know how dominant he will be (watching o-linemen is boring pure excitement), but I hope he becomes a force.

Proper adjustments have been made.....

But I'm just a windsock so what do I know ???

For the sake of getting to know everyone on this board a little better, I was wondering if everyone here is Minnesota/Big Ten fans. Obviously most everyone here is more D3 oriented, but it'd still be interesting to find out what everybody's favorite D1 program is.

It's important at all schools, some perhaps put a little more emphasis on it.  I don't deny/confirm your source reports, nor do I care that much.  It was simply too easy in this particular situation to have a little fun with the gals.  Just ironic how these girls were making it sound like they attend the Harvard of the Midwest yet I've heard more intelligent rhetoric in a junior high study hall.  We were all friends again after I told them about the time I threw up inside the La's bathroom.
