57 & Bennie,

Could you please make sure to keep the updates coming today as many  of your regular Saturday crew Zip,TDT et al will be in Collegville today. As a favor to our buddy KR who is on rounds today & "should" have no cell phone turned on while in the hospital ;)

I'm sure KR would appreciate the highlights to read as he enjoys a High Life after work today. The beatdown the Johnnies will put on the Royals today will be a thing of beauty!

Lights out early in the booth....now there's something for sure we know doesn't go on in Arden Hills!

Congrats to BDB's hockey squad, who took out the Jays last night 2-0 at the National Concrete Center.  SJU is now 1-2 on the year.  Can we find another year of eligibility for Adam Hanna?

It's a beautiful day for football!  Go Johnnies!

Time to hit the showers, then hit the road.  I've already committed to hitting the Reef before the game, but I just may swing by the Stiftungsridiculousness on my way into the drubbing.

---

Another bright, sunny day for Johnnie football, which is nice.  I'm in the camp that says the crowd will be substantial, but nothing special.  It's a little brisk, deer hunting is in full swing, SJU already has a share of the title and a playoff spot wrapped up.  Then again, there was a lot more red at O'Shaughnessy than I would have guessed, so who knows.

---

Die, Hamline.  Thanks a bunch for ruining my pick 'ems.  Honestly, Augsburg?  Friggin' Northwestern salivates when Augsburg comes to town.  Ugggggh.  Now I'm bitter.  And no, there will be no gracious concession speech, in case you were wondering.

Someone asked raiderguy earlier for an  honest assessment of the MUCs this year.  I think it's pretty clear that MUC and UW-Whitewater (even with a pounded Beaver) are a cut above everyone else this year.  As for the Johnnies, in 2000 and--especially--2003, once the team hit the playoffs you just had a feeling that they weren't going to lose.  It's damn tough to top unbeaten, and I think they'll beat the Bethels pretty handily today, but this team certainly doesn't doesn't have the Unbeatable Aura that some of the recent vintages have had.  I think a lot of that feeling stems from the UW-W game last year--it wasn't a close game between two evenly matched teams that could have gone either way.  The Whitewaters were the far superior team, and the Johnnies weren't winning that game even if they held on to the ball.  I just don't think this year's team is appreciably better.  I really hope they prove me wrong.

Thanks esq, this Devil puck squad might be special.

National Concrete Center.  :D

Good luck Johnnies!!

Thanks for the history on the NIC repete. I left long before it was ever a concept for St Cloud.

Looks like the Johnnies didn't need Hanna since they only allowed 2. When I saw them at Lake Forest, they looked fairly potent on offense. I guess it just shows how the opponent has something to do with that. I couldn't hook up with the webcast last night, so I didn't even get to hear it. The U of M vs SCSU game was a good one on FSN North though.

Only a few more hours, better get going....

Time to flush the johnnies!!! Go BU!!!

The Gopher/SCSU puck game was awful (I'm a gopher puck rube too).  The Gophs sleepwalked through the game and still had two two-goal leads they blew.  It was great when Okposo scored that goal, though, as he ended up celebrating right in front of me (I was sitting on the glass right there).  He was pumped, as was I!

Oh yeah, football, Concordia won 41-21 last night.  Tough win for a team that had some major ups and downs this year.

Getting everything ready in the booth - John bobblehead at hand, RAT sweat on, '03 championship hat available to put on if necessary and plenty of Redenbacher's to pop less than 2hrs to go. I suspect the Festivities are full bore by now. The booth is the next best place to be.

My thoughts for today's game (SJU vs. BU)---

Having played both of these two my feeling is that the J's will win this one.  To me it is not a complete gimme though.  Now, I'm not in any way trying to take anything away from the J's, but it is a style thing that leads me to believe that the Royals do have a chance.  With the "reading" that the Johnnie D line uses, it could allow Bethel's massive o-line to get a push, at least enough for 3 or 4 yards a play.  Porta does a heck of a job at using that big line, so, potentially Bethel could keep the Johnnie offense off the field.  If that takes place, if Bethel can turn it into a boring ground and pound game, and rack up like 250 yards on the ground, they could keep the field tilted in their favor.  However, if that Johnnie D-front is at all able to get off, and control the gaps, I think that the Johnnie offense is much too strong for the Bethel D.  I know that statistically the Bethel defense is one of the top defenses in the nation, however, that receiving corp from St Johns is awesome.  I don't think that anyone else, with the exception of maybe Olaf, has the size and speed at receiver that Bethel has seen yet.  I think this will be a good game.  I'm disappointed that I'm not able to travel up to see it first hand.  Best of luck to all teams that are playing today, and congrats to all of the seniors that are finishing their careers in the MIAC today.  It has been an honor taking the field with each one of you the last three years.  I look forward to meeting a bunch of you next year, now that beverages before the game are in play!

Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

Good luck to both teams, hopefully it's a well played game. Alas, I will not be in attendance.

In case anyone is in the Twin Cities with Comcast for their cable provider:  If you have a High Definition Televison, subscribe to Comcasts High Definition package with the HDNet channel (1602) The DePauw vs. Wabash game is being televised in High Definition.  Pretty cool to see "real" football being shown to the world!
