On another note...

With new travel restrictions will the Johnnie Air Armada be allowed to carry our own beverages?

Will we be restricted to multiple 4 oz shampoo bottles filled with Bailey's, Jack and Hamm's beer?

Anyone with connections to the FFA and Sun Country please respond!  8)

Growing up on a dairy farm in central Minnesota as well as being involved with the FFA in my youth- I feel qualified to answer your question Dusty.

Yes ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

If it hasn't changed, I believe the MIAC awards are all agreed upon by the coaches. I think they actually have a coaches meeting to decide who is what. It could be the SID's are involved too, I am not 100% sure.

Carr and Johnson were good choices.  The others were not.  I'm not certain the Bethel DE was the best lineman in the league.  Was he the most dominant individual lineman in the MIAC?  What about Wassink (Bethel), Gunderson (SJU) or Rouse (UST) - check the stats.  Plus, it is hard to believe that 7 of Bethel's 11 defensive players were worthy.  They were good, but come on.

Being a Tommie fan, it's hard for me to believe that one of the top defenses in the league (St. Thomas) only had 3 all-conference players.  I saw them play a few times this year and the freshman LB Petterson was really good (3rd in MIAC tackles).  Their safety and two corners were really good - they were tops in the conference pass defense and held St. Olaf in check.  Where's the love?

You're telling me St. Olaf had 4 All-Conference players on that defense?  The awards are political and they are a joke.  If the coaches do decide who gets what, then maybe we need an independent committee.

Anyhow, good luck to SJU.  Beat Whitworth and give UWW a run.  Looking forward to next season...

Congratulations to Alex Kofoed, Matt Penz, and Ben Wetzell, 3 really terrific QB's this year all earning 1st team honors.  And to the Oles with 12 1st teamers.  And a big congratulations to Zach, Kirby and Coach J with your great honors..

I would love to see the team that starts 3 QB's, 2 Centers, 4 Tackles, 4 RB's, and 4 WR's in addition to a TE, a G, and a "utility player" whatever the hell that is. I'm not great at math, but I think that comes out to 20 guys on the field which is usually a penalty.
Not to mention the 6-7-5 defense they run (6 D-linemen, 7 LB's, and 5 DB;s), only 18 starters on that side of the ball, not as bad as the offense but still a penalty.

I have to agree with Pat, when multiple players at the same position are all on the "First Team" of an all-conference roster, it kinda takes the meaning away from the award.

Hell, why not just have everyone who started this season be All-conference?

John Gagliardi was talking with Bob Sansevere again:

People think about going to Rome and the Vatican. I've been a guest of Jim Tressel's at Ohio State. And I've been with Phil Fulmer at Tennessee. And Steve Spurrier when he was at Florida. And I've visited with Brian Billick and the Baltimore Ravens. I'll never forget those days. To me, that's far better than visiting the pope. I hate to say that as a Catholic. I'll probably be excommunicated.

If I had a time machine, I'd like to go back and replay that game we lost to Bethel

...I read this as well in the paper today.   Of all the things I'd do with a time machine, the last thing I'd want to do is go back and replay a football game.  Say all you want, SJU getting beat by BU is a big deal, more important than them (SJU) getting beat in the playoffs!!  If the season were to end this weekend for SJU, they'd rather had beaten BU than make it another round!!

Wow, Scrubby, you are dead on! I just called one of my buddies who was on the SJU 2003 National Championship team and asked him what the best part of his senior year was, here's how the conversation went:
Quote
KR: SO what was the best part of the 2003 season?
Buddy: Beating Bethel. After that the rest of the season didn't matter.
KR: Didn't beating Mount Union for the National Championship mean more?
Buddy: No way. The Stagg bowl was ok, but man, beating Bethel in the regular season... wow what a highlight!
KR: Is that because it was John's record breaking 409th victory?
Buddy: That was that day? I had no idea, we were all just so thrilled that we beat Bethel. It made my year. I know SJU has beaten Bethel like 25 times in the past 28 match-ups, but man every one is so much better than any other game ever played.
KR: All right bud, well you have a good Turkey Day.
Buddy: You too, I'm gonna go pop in my DVD of the game where we beat Bethel and kiss the rings we all got the season we beat Bethel.

Get a grip, Scrubby. Beating Bethel has become so old hat to the Johnnies that it's a shock anytime they don't beat Bethel.

Here's a list of past and current MIAC schools with a better win-loss record against SJU than Bethel's 3-25 (.107):

Augsburg   (8-57-2   .123)
Concordia  (29-37-6 .439)
Gustavus   (31-37-3 .455)
Hamline     (23-48-3 .323)
St Olaf       (13-31-1 .295)
St Thomas (28-45-1 .383)
Macalaster (17-54-4 .239)
St Mary's   (3-11-2 .214)

Here's the list of MIAC schools with a worse record against SJU than Bethel:
Carleton    (0-23 .000)

You're probably looking for the rest of the list... that's it. Only Carleton has had less success of past and current MIAC teams against SJU than Bethel.

Do you still think beating Bethel makes or breaks SJU's season? :D

RE: MVP, COY, and Stam

I'd rather have SJU still playing after the first week of the playoffs than win all three any year.

KR, and that is why losing to the Eagles didnt feel so bad.  I dont know if the Johnnies remember what it feels like to lose to an underdog. I agree with you, it rarely ever happens, which is why my last trip to Collegeville was so special.  Its always an amazing place to see,  win or lose, but the win this year was inspiring for years to the BU program. And that is why BU is years behind SJU in the national spotlight.  We embrace the Divisional victory, and you enjoy the post season.  Year after Year.....   developing....... and I agree with you, why the multiple awards at each position.  Who really was deserving of the number 1 spot at each position?  Its been awhile for me, but thats the way it was, 11 offensive, and 11 defensive players plus only a kicker, and punter.  Your picks?

In regards to the MIAC awards;

From what I've seen this year;

MVP=I like the Porta kid from BU, but why isn't this #2 Carr kid being talked about??  When I've seen him play, he has played defense, a great rusher who defends the run and has had many sacks and tackles for loss, and defends the pass just as well.  Playes offense, rushes and passes the ball for yardage and TD's!  And have seen him fake punts, both rushing and passing, mostly to his brother.

Lineman=I'm not sure the #8 from SJU is considered a lineman or OLB, but he's good.  I also like the kid from BU on the defensive line, #37.

Coach=don't know much about each program enough to know where they've been and how far the coaches have taken them, but off the cuff, I'd have to say BU's coach or coaches, defense has been very good as well.  You'd have to say the SJU coach, who keeps on winning!

These were my thoughts a week ago!

KR: 5 Star post.  Thanks for breaking it down.  That should put things in perspective for the Bethel phonies.

DustySJU: Are we locked and loaded? Itinerary?  Need to find out if Theowick is bringing a keg of Olde Johnnie Ale again this week.  Just throw that baby in the cargo hold!!!!

Glad to have another Tommie poster.  MIACPP can also use one of those.  Maybe taking the place of the AWOL USTBenchwarmer???

Oldpa: Looking forward to drinking some brew out of your trunk again.  I am glad LAX beat Bethel, they will give you a much better game than the Royals would have.

Do I think BU's team is the best in the league, I can't say that, I haven't seen other teams play.  I do know this from what I watched on Saturday; BU has a very good back in Porta, a solid QB and 2 very good receivers, a very athletic offensive line.  The special teams were good at best, good punter,  so-so kickoff guy!!  The defense, solid interior 7, #37 is the real deal!!  Outside LB's as good as I've seen in a long time.  Inside LB's very quick and athletic!  Secondary, wasn't tested much, although had 2/3 picks.  I don't know people, I think BU has a very nice team.  Keep in mind this is coming from a guy that for many years didn't like the football team from down the road on snelling!!  Back then, I'd love to have played them, not so sure now!  Thanks for reading and I'd love to hear back from those that read this!  I'm new this year, so be nice!!

I was ripped on for sharing this 12 weeks ago.  Was told that I hadn't seen enough MIAC football to say that BU was going to be good.  Well, MVP, Lineman of the year, Coach of the year, several 1st team and 2nd team all MIAC players.  Led the MIAC in most defensive stats and very high in most offensive stats.  I know, that doesn't mean anything since they are now done.  Save all the BS and just give credit where credit is due.

In regards to my comment about SJU wanting to beat BU more than advancing in the playoffs, I was refering to this year and the comment John made in the paper.   Twist it anyway you want, your coach was the one that made the comment about going back in time.  Must have bugged him alittle, no?

ROR - Let me get this straight. It was OK when I called for you to be put in a home last week, but not today for Gramps? I mean, clearly a lot has changed in the last seven days but now you defend Bethel Gramps who is nearly universally scorned on these boards — with me leading the charge, naturally — before yourself? You'll have to explain this logic to me someday...just not anytime soon, since it's now basketball season :)

You know your team had a bad year when your "stud" quarterback gets sympathy votes for 2nd team kicker of the year. Stolp finished tied for the 4th most PATs in the MIAC (with 2 misses) and goes 1-for-4 on field goals. But, hey, at least we spent thousands of dollars to fly in a kicking guru from Whale's Vagina who has worked with Elam!

I wonder how Schoeny argued that one with a straight face... :-\
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Scrubby41

With that, I'm done.  I'm going to be rooting for SJU through the playoffs, why, cause they are good!!
I'm also going to be rooting for Lakeville South, which has one of the best running backs in the state of MN.  Where he goes is up to him.  In my opinion, he will be at BU!  He loved his visit with John and his team.  He just seems to be a better fit for BU.  But then again, these last few weeks have brought a whole new bunch of letters his way.  Who knows, only time will tell.  God Bless and again, just an old man without a wife who has allowed this site to help ease the pain.  For those that know what I'm refering too, thanks for your support, you've been kind and have helped along the way.  Bye

PC/KR...Also agree...the NWC used to be notorious for this although I think they figured it out this year.  Doesn't make it too special when EVERYBODY makes the team.  Just another example of the pussification of America...let's not keep score and everybody is an all-star!   :P

By the way, the spread on this weeks game is Johnnies -17.  I'll take the Johnnies giving the points!

Dang! I already conceded that BU is the best ever ever EVER!  That must not be good enough.  I have to do better.  OK, how's this?

BU is better than the best, they are the ULTRA-SUPER-BEST!  And the only way the Johnnies will ever rise above the searing glory of BU's magnificence (in this and every season ever to be played until the end of time) will be if the Johnnies pay.... ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!  Muuuaaaahahahahahaha!!!!!!

RA,
Having only seen SJU and Carleton play this year, I know better than to think I have any clue who were the best players in the league aside from looking at stats alone.

I've agreed with you ever since the first time you said it.

My high school's conference had 8 teams. The 1st team all-conference had 3 QB's as did the 2nd team and there were 3 honorable mention QB's... yes, the math is right, every starter in the conference plus 1 back-up who started 3 games were all conference... what an honor [sarc].

Hell, senior year, I was honorable mention all-conference in football and I didn't even start for most of the season! Means about as much to me as beating my younger sister in a game of H.O.R.S.E.

Yes, Bethel had a great regular season. Then came the post-season.
I give all the credit that is due to Bethel for beating St John's as well as for keeping their perfect playoff record in tact.

Wow, imagine that. A coach's biggest regret of the season is the only game he lost. Amazing.

In other surprising news, given the chance, John Kerry would like to take a time machine and go back and win the 2004 presidential election and Bill Cowher would like to go back and win the regular season games that the Steelers lost last season, but he's ok with his Super Bowl ring.
