Can't say how impressed I was with the turnout of SJU fans at the Pine Bowl yesterday.  More fans than PLU had at the 2001 playoff at our place.  And almost all cheered loudly and hard for their team with great class.

Someone else ran into TDT it seems ...   :o

BUdefense

Been gone for five days, I'm not gonna bother trying to catch up with all this.....As much as I hope the Johnnies keep it going, I'm looking forward to when they are done so we can all sit here and bitch and moan about varied topics, instead of all this Johnnie talk.

Won't happen! Even if they lose somewhere along the line the talk will still be all Johnnies!! ;D
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run

You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun

Poor BUdef, we all feel your pain for having to read about our team's playoff success.  Wait, when was the last time Bethel had playoff success?

Anyway, here's one fan who was happy with the results from yesterday.  Great effort from the defense, and just enough offense to make the ending a safe one.  Forgive me if this has been posted already, but it was gratifying to see none other than John Gagliardi agreeing with me that certain assistant coaches (read: offensive coordinator) might be holding back the team...

Seattle Times about the halftime talk that spurred a strong second half:
"We just had to play better," said Saint John's coach John Gagliardi of the slim 7-3 lead for the Minnesota school. "A couple of the assistant coaches were trying to invent plays and I said, 'Geez, just execute what we've got. Don't draw up something in the sand — you don't need to do that.' "

The win was a great one against a previous unbeaten yesterday, and if Kofoed can overcome the redzone turnover bug, I feel good about a competitive game next weekend in Whitewater!

Go Johnnies!

Wisdom, sheer wisdom. The difference between winning and losing.

Great game yesterday, Johnnies!!  I finally arrived home at 5:30 a.m.  I was sad that we couldn't stay at the Mall a little longer.

It was nice meeting Bennie.  Thanks for the Hamms, cookies, and reserved seat!

Our running game was excellent yesterday.  We led a very balanced offensive attack.

Our defense improved greatly throughout the game and made many key plays in the second half.

Great spending time with JR, TDT, Bennie, and Dusty yesterday.  It was nice seeing Irish, too.

Go Johnnies!!!  I am looking for a much improved game this year in Whitewater.

Get ready, Zip!!  The train is getting prepared to roll out.  I'll be in touch.
Go Johnnies!!!

Bennie,

Why do you live in Oregon? It doesn't seem that you like it very much, and it sounds as if you miss SJU a lot.

Is there any staff that has a team prepared for the playoffs better than the Johnnies?

Not to discount SJU's staff at all, but Larry Kehres seems to do a pretty good job, too ;)

A tradition unrivaled...

Ditto that, BUdefense. The last 3+ years or so I've avoided this board over these months for that very reason. And nevermind CM, he tends to get ornery when his team (re: CSB hoops) isn't winning every game by 40 so he can rub our noses in it.

TMerts, I know you're out there. Waiting. Watching. Thinking of excuses. What happened to the almighty Irish last night? Maybe playing more than 3-4 teams with winning records (closer than 20) should be a prereq for making a bowl game from now on? Although, I hear those three military academies DO have Top 300 recruiting classes coming in next season...

Oh! And the Colorado newspaper ran a headline today reading "ND stands for No Defense." I almost saved it and sent it to you before deciding it wasn't worth the work. I'll hang up now and just listen to you and Chuck complain about how unfair it is that teams who won impressively moved ahead of his team who hasn't proved anything all year. Don't the voters care about how much money ND rakes in? What an unfair system we have  :'(
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Veek-I'll be ready for the train, I just hope UWW is, as well. Would like to see a better game than a few weeks ago. BTW-the Polish will be ready to go.

Tmert, I will only gloat once!

Go Trojans!

BTW

Okay, Sum - your boys earned this one.  Clearly the better team.  So here's a shout out to the Troy Bois

What I appreciate about USC are the educational opportunities it offers.  Take Trojan running back Chauncey Washington (who was academically ineligible for two years before this year): "No one really likes school, or at least I don't. But you have to do it to play ball," Washington said. "My parents want me to graduate, but, to be honest, I don't like school at all."

Sum, you can follow and support a school or a program.  Most of the SC supporters I know could give a rat's ass about SC as a school, for good reason.  Same goes for SC players (ballroom dancing, Mr. Leinert?  Chauncy Washington quotes on academic asperations?)   Conversion is still possible. ;)  D3 shows the way.

Bennie, you just got mentioned on air for providing chocolate for the broadcast ;)

Ya got to keep them happy and feeling appreciated! ;D Seriously, after having listened to some other team's broadcasts, we are very lucky that we have these guys. They do a great job! :D

Bennie;  Thanks for making the 8 hour drive from U of O to take in yesterday's fun times in Spokane.  Sorry I didn't get a chance to say good bye but please accept our "thank you" for the Hamm's, Jag and sugar cookies... how come we didn't get any chocolate?  :)

As for the trip it was highly rewarding albeit a bit prolonged as we awaited our 11:00pm departure following the 3:00pm completion of the game.  All is not lost even though we consumed more than our limit of spirits but had the opportunity and pleasure to meet new Johnnie fans and parents.  It makes our arrival in EP at 4:00am a bit easier to palate knowing we single handedly revived the local Spokane economy and helped our boys live to play another day... no jock sniffers here, just dedicated Johnnie Alumni.

The game yesterday was a replay of last week with the addition of an effective running attack.  Prolly the best Johnnie running day we've seen in the last couple of seasons!

The best quote from trip came from past and current sometime poster "Chewey" who was seated to my right.  Sometime at around 2:00am CST and 30,000 feet following several dozen beers Chewey extolled - "Red Hot Bennie"..... "Is she hot?"

Of course she is.....  ;)

Is Charlie Weiss a poor big game coach right now? It seems he does not understand how to prepare his team for the big games-perhaps he will learn soon-maybe he should talk to John and get some pointers.

Wonk, you're so far outta whatever it's hard to know what you're talking about.  SC was a better team last night; beyond that I'm not sure what horse you wanna ride.  Was there a point there?  SC is a very good football program.  Does that make GA better?

Time will tell.  Lots of folks could learn from John.
