Not a HUGE ND fan, but I like them. From a novice point of view, I'd say Weiss had a good game plan. Just not enough horses. Can't think of a coach I'd rather have.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Here, I'll spell it out for you then, tmerts. I'll even try to use small words in Kilted Rat format so you can understand. I'm not sure exactly what GA stands for, but if you mean GAC then that confuses me further. Did I mention that in my last post?

Maybe playing more than 3-4 teams with winning records (closer than 20) should be a prereq for making a bowl game from now on?

Notre Dame played three teams with winning records all year, winning one by 4 and losing the others by 26 and 20. If it was in the SEC or Big 10 the Irish would be middle of the pack and playing in a Goopher-esque bowl game.

Which bring us to my next point...

I'll hang up now and just listen to you and Chuck complain about how unfair it is that teams who won impressively moved ahead of his team who hasn't proved anything all year.

If you can't follow this, you are either in denial or not a Notre Dame fan. I have a diehard ND buddy -- who admitted today he'll only ever cheer for Brady "Choker" Quinn to break both his legs and that ND does NOT deserve a BCS bid -- who was embarrassed by this Weis press conference masterpiece a few weeks past. You want props in the polls for squeaking by bad teams? That's almost as illogical as the BCS selection system.

Wait for it...

Don't the voters care about how much money ND rakes in? What an unfair system we have  :'(

Notre Dame feels it deserves top billing with its sparkling record. Yet, it doesn't play anyone. This could be easily changed if it simply joined a conference. Yet, it won't ever happen due to the outrageous TV contract it gets. You can't have your cake and eat it too, no matter how many rich alums and popped collars you support. Do it like every other program in the nation has to: earn it.

As for the school quote...point at the warts all you want, but Weis' action on the sidelines via 60 Minutes and the press conference debacle afford critics similar, if not better, ammo. The aura is Bethel-like, while the actions are Augsburg-like. Hopefully you know what that means.

Nothing would make me happier than watching ND get matched with Boise State in a BCS game, complain all December about the lack of respect and then get pounded by the blue turfers.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Sum, you can follow and support a school or a program.  Most of the SC supporters I know could give a rat's ass about SC as a school, for good reason.  Same goes for SC players (ballroom dancing, Mr. Leinert?  Chauncy Washington quotes on academic asperations?)   Conversion is still possible. ;)  D3 shows the way.

Tmert, Your correct I know very little about USC academically! I fell in love with USC back in 1968 when one O.J. Simpson and crew came to Memorial Stadium and mopped up on the Gopher! Maybe that's what started my disdain for the Minnesota program. :D

Sound like a lot of bitter feelings about ND! One has to remember that all of this is still a game! in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean jack sh*t who one the game on Saturday night!

It just means I get to give you a hard time for the next year about it!! ;D

WAHOO3

I apologize if I am repeating...

ND's last 3 losses are to currently ranked #1 OSU, #2 USC, and #3 Mich. With that they haven't played anyone else. I hope for tv watching's sake ND doesn't play in the rose bowl. I'd like to see Florida/Mich or LSU/Mich. I thought Weiss called a horrible game yesterday.

Mr.Shoes

So the melt-my-brain Sunday Night announcers-who-will-not-be-named just had an enlightening conversation. They were discussing the fact that the Colts always seem to be better prepared than whoever they're playing. Collinsworth was added to the conversation and he pointed out that "the Colts run more plays before calisthenics than most teams do all practice." I had to laugh. Sound like any other football program you know?

Since the brain-dead BCS seems to be the topic du jour right now, my ideal scenario is an OSU-Michigan rematch, followed up by a best-of-three third game at the Big House after Michigan wins on the neutral field. I can dream...
Nice day, huh?

I just wish Rutgers had won out so they'd see how stupid the BCS is and blow the son of a bitch up.

And I don't care if you do have family in Michigan or not--no one wants to see them play OSU again.  They had their chance and didn't win.  Let someone else have a shot.  I think either OSU/USC or USC/Florida would be a decent enough game.

QuoteJohnnies run option to perfection.

When's the last time you could say that?

You were on the sideline at the time, I think...

With who running it?  Maybe Keating could run a decent option, but not great.  Linneman...no.  Denne...no.

That's the 2nd time Linneman's name has ever been mentioned in the same post as the word run. The other post was referencing a run of the beer variety.

Just looked at Franky R's blog and it said Lofboom slightly separated his shoulder in the second quarter. So sounds like he should be all right for next week, if he was able to play the rest of the way today. Provided he didn't tweak it too much at the end there.

Slightly separated?

That's a lot like being "slightly pregnant." It either is separated or it isn't. There are varying degrees though based on the ligaments involved.

Video news story on the SJU/Whitworth game can be found here from the Spokane local station:

SJU's coaching staff listens to WC11 and goes to the run game to control Whitworth

Thanks for the link WC11!

Great catch by Gearman for the TD! Looked even sweeter than the audio made it sound ;D
Hard to make 21-3 sound any better than it is though.

Duffman-- This work at 6pm on Saturday stuff sucks. Can't you use that SJU education to figure a way out of it?

It's not "work" but a holiday party.  Sorry :'(

Duff,

My holiday party is Saturday night as well. I'm not going, just a bunch of drunken assholes talking smack. I would much rather spend my day at the UWW-SJU game! :D

Mine is actually a good time, and it is frowned upon by the higher-ups if you don't attend.  I'll hold down the fort here, though.

I'll be here with ya.
The leftover Busch Lights from the Central game are chilling in the fridge waiting for their destiny, much like the 37 pheasants and 1 rabbit myself and 9 of MrsKR's relatives slaughtered today  ;D

+k to everyone who has posted since Saturday morn.

Where the hell is TDT? Did he get too drunk at the airport and not make it on the plane?

3 Zima's and a Mike's hard will do that to ya ;D

RE: Notre Dame

Over-rated all season much like last season... and most every year since 1950. Their current #12 ranking is probably about right. Yes they lost to good teams, but good teams are supposed to beat good teams. Ironic that if ND had beaten USC they would have expected/hoped for a National Title Game slot ahead of the team that whooped them at home by 26.

My theory: NBC bribes the hell out of the voters in the polls to artificially inflate ND's ranking to boost TV viewership. This backfires and results in the entire country seeing ND dominated by 26 at home and smoked by 20 on the road.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Good win for the Johnnies today!  Looks like the D is stepping it up!  Good Luck vs. WW this weekend!

The Montana Grizzly game was absolutely awesome!  I think the Louisiana boys had some trouble with the temp and snow!  I think it was in the teens all game long.  The Griz dominated all game long, it was fun to watch!

Even MT State won today over Fuhrman.  However, Carroll College lost 14-7 to St. Xavier ending their season and a chance at a 5th consecutive Nat'l title!

hey cobbernation....looks like the Griz were on top of their game today...i listened to the Bobcat game....they had a surprisingly easy time with Furman today.... i will try to go to the Appy State game in Boone NC since i live about 4 hrs north in Charleston, WV....

go Johnnies....go Bobcats...

johnnie..

If you go to the App St. game this sat.  Definately let me know how good they really are.  I know they are the defending champs, but can they be beat?  Hopefully the Griz will get a chance at them in TN for the championship!

I try to respect the fact that this is a D3 board.  There are other places to work over the issues of D1 teams, including ND.  Your problem with the Irish obviously exceeds what can be discussed here.  If your D3 team (GA/GAC, whatever) played better I doubt we'd be hearing smack from you on ND as you'd be crowing over them and not bothering with D1.  If your interest  is in crowing over the SC victory over ND, I suggest you join your buddies over at wildwestsports.com; it's smack central for SC.

Oh, yeah - and responding to your own quotes is kinda new, even here.

You're right KR. Although I still think I'd rather have a slightly separated shoulder than be slightly pregnant.

Willy Wonka

Ok, my turn to ask for clarification - feel free to quote yourself, if you so choose.

My understanding of your rules is...when Notre Dame wins, it's ok for you to crow on this D3 board, which rarely discusses football during the week. When Notre Dame loses, it needs to be discussed elsewhere as this board is exclusive property of Hamms, Anna/Lisa, Air Force, medical school, ripping Bethel, ripping Meidt, making fun of TDT, calling for the heads of Monson/Mason/little Gags, making fun of the Vikings, discussing Eelpout in depth, debating the (de)merits of certain alcoholic beverages, making travel plans and planning Stiffyfests, writing funny poems, hosting field trips for other regions, minor politics, posting countless forwards, and telling funny stories.

Is that about right, TMerts? Heaven forbid I lead a deviation from such a rigid panel of ideas  ::)

And, in case you missed it amidst this completely on-topic D3 football chatter, Frank and I did happen to mention that GAC finished its season on a four-game winning streak to end 6-4. Better than expected, but hardly worthy of much chatter on here for Johnnie fans.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

there are few things i love more than a Notre Dame loss. It is exactly what every non-biased person saw coming, although I previously predicted a 17 point win for the Trojans. Forced to pick between the lesser of two evils, I'm glad the Trojans won. I couldnt have handled the hype of Notre Dame in a national championship game. Does anyone realize the last time they won a title was 1988?

Ii am pretty psyched about the Big 12 title game though, huskers vs. OU has shades of the glory days of the Big 8
"FILL IT UP AGAIN!!!.....Once it hits your lips, it's so good!".........Frank Rickard

OzJohnnie

Well, I floated the idea with the missus of flying back to the national championship game the next time the Johnnies make it.  Her only objection was that my mother would really like that; all the way back to the States for a ball game but not to see them.  I figure I could swing by Rapids for a quick visit on my way home after the big win (I figure as long as I'm doing the fairy tale, I might as well make it a good one).

I'm just hoping for a turnover free game on the weekend.  If that happens, there's a good chance for the Johnnies.  Without it, I figure the game will be tough.

The 10 day Johnnie forecast, courtesy of the WeatherChannel calls for partly cloudy skys and 33 degrees on Saturday.  Could have some sticky fingers in that type of weather.

The epic 1971 Nebraska/Oklahoma match-up was one of the first college football games this poster ever watched. (If I recall correctly, that was when Nebraska had Johnnie Rodgers & Co.)
