Exactly how old is John?

He'll need plenty of scheming for UWW.

I believe he just hit the big 8-0 this past month.

......although when you have lots of DI and DII castoffs, it helps..........

Those Dl and Dll castoffs are free to go to any Dlll school they want! Why do you suppose the choose to attend this one?   ;D

Just a question to the Johnnies on the board:

How much does Gags actually do? Some in the conference think that he is just a figurehead, someone who is the face of the program and has little to do with the actual playcalling/gameplanning. I dont claim to know whether this is true or not, but I'm just throwing it out there. I've seen stretches where he just sits on the bench, staring into space without any interaction with any of the other coaches or players.

This is NOT a personal attack on John, merely a question.

Not this again?!?! I'll forgive you since you're a pretty good poster and relatively new, but this gets brought up every six months or so.
The Reader's Digest version of an answer is that he's very involved. He has delegated more in recent years, given his top-shelf collection of assistants. I don't think I've ever seen him sit during a game, though.

How often does Bill Bellicheck talk to anyone?

The football sage known as Gagliardi is scheming... constantly scheming.....

Yeah, but every time I do, I get smitten. Must be from those jealous lesser football minds out there.  8)

Belicheck is on the headset......so he's communicating with someone, whereas John stoically sits in his parka..........although you may be right, he could be scheming....and I cant argue with the record he has......although when you have lots of DI and DII castoffs, it helps..........

I have never seen John sit on the bench.  John is walking all over the place, talking to everyone.  Ask any player who made a mistake if John was "stoic" when they came off the field and John got up in their face.

What DI castoffs?

I don't know that I would call the guys who transfered from DII schools castoffs.  There are multiple reasons they chose to leave DII schools.  Like some school that decided to go D-1A.

John may not be on a headset, but he sure seems to stand near those that have them on. Obviously you haven't witnessed John do the 'ol notecard trick on the sidelines (a.k.a. drawing up a play and saying "Run this").

When Gagliardi finally retires, my vote would be for Johnnie Red to take over the program -- not only does he have intimate knowlege of SJU football (after all of those years of running x-country for the Johnnies) he has been an ambassador, bringing people together for his burger parties, er, tailgates each week. Everything else about the program directs itself, right?

Just my two cents. :)
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

Obviously my campaign to be the next SJU coach is not getting the momentum that I had hoped for.
If it makes any difference, I will wear a headset. Does it matter if it's plugged into my Ipod?

I LOVE IT!  Johnnie fans having to defend all the D-I/II transfers.  Next people will be complaining about the 200 man roster!   ::)

And I thought those were only Mount issues......darn...we DO have something in common.  Thank GOD SJU is a much more revered institution of higher learning.   ;D

Johnnie Faithful,
Looks like Gags has his work cut out for him if he wants to catch this coach.

He is a high school coach, but has 543 career wins!

Another thing to keep in mind is the old saying that games are not won on Saturdays. They are won in the offseason and at practice.

Even if he did nothing on Saturday, he would still out-coach 75% of DIII coaches based on his work from Sunday through Friday.

As far as DI and DII cast-offs, I don't know of any DI transfers to SJU. I would assume the DII transfers wanted to come to a school that could win a playoff game or two without them, thusly ruling out a transfer to Bethel ;D

Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

As long as we're on the subject, who are the Johnnies current DII transfers?  I'm pretty certain Steffensmeier is from NDSU, Gearman is from SCSU, and that Schumacher and Patnode just transferred this year from Truman State.  Who am I missing?

Also, as long as I'm asking football questions, what happened to Anthony Schmidt, the kicker from Totino?  I thought he did decent enough last year as a 1st year--is he injured this year or did he go to the Bethel Kicking Camp over the summer?
