Johnnie Red

BUdefense, thanks for the notice about the article by Austin Murphy. He is a great guy and an excellent writer. It has been a few years since he has been in Collegeville. Last time we saw him was in `03 at the Stagg Bowl. Hopefully we will see him there again two weeks from this Saturday to cheer on the Johnnies. ;D

I am all fired up!

DustySJU is in the area on business tomorrow and will be my guest at the Blue Devil Hoops Club luncheon.  ;D

The Hoops Club is the official booster club for the Blue Devil Men's and Women's (#6 rated by this site) basketball teams.

Anyone else ever cruising down I-94 with some spare time stop on by. I'll buy lunch or a Hamm's, depending on the time of day.  ;)

Jim Souhan has a nice article on John in this mornings STRIB!
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

In a gesture of ecumenism and healing BDB has extended an olive branch across the MN/WI divide in an attempt to put a clamp on the pissing contest that has errupted.

BDB, Thanks for the invite.  Looking forward to connecting with you and meeting the Stout hoopsters!  :)

Finsleft...i am sure you could handle the job...you just need to keep those top shelf assistants around and let them do their job.

In looking at Whitewater...they are a great team solid on both sides of the ball, maybe a little better than SJU on offense and even if not a little better than SJU on D, if you look at the "stats"

Game planning should not be a problem...I am confident the "Wizzard" (Jimmy) will come up with plays to work against WW...no defense takes away everything.  As for the D...well Jerry Haugen has shut down more powerful offenses than the one on display in Whitewater...last year were the Johnnies 27 points worse than WW?  no...WW just took advantage of multiple mistakes by SJU, its about time WW plays a bad game similiar to the one that they played against MUC last year in the title tilt...

Lets remember that SJU is one of the last 8 teams in DIII playing...that alone is a great accomplishment, lets not forget it...the problem is that they could probably beat 5 of the other teams in the 8 that are left without too much of a problem, but WW MUC and maybe MHB could stand equal...all in all it should be a fun game and hopefully a J victory in the end.

I don't know about the olive branch Dusty.

I'm enjoying watching Duff and KR flame the fire over in the WIAC!  :D

That right there is almost worth a trip.

DustySJU feel free to call me if you need any basketball-speak pointers as I'm sure you know, my profound knowledge of sports is not just limited to football. 8)

Ok, it's Wednesday, time to quit wasting so much time talking football. It's beer time.

I'm bringing 4 cases as a welcome to WW present for you tailgaters. So far, I have had these requests.

Lienies Red
Lienies Honeyweiss
Old Style
Rolling Rock

Should it stand that way? and bottles or cans?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Below, find the quote from Austin Murphy's piece on college football:

Six years ago I was working on a book about the Division III football program at St. John's in Collegeville, Minn., led by John Gagliardi, who has since surpassed Eddie Robinson as the winningest coach in NCAA history. The Johnnies were headed to Pella, Iowa, for a second-round playoff game against Central. When my father heard I was going, he proposed meeting me there. He flew from Boston, I flew from San Francisco, and we met in the heartland.

I don't remember much about the game -- the Johnnies won a slugfest -- but I do remember how well my dad got along with Gagliardi. And that frigid day in Pella remains one of my favorites, which had everything to do with the company I kept. My father and I share the same name but not the same politics. That said, we get along very well. Our bond is stout -- never so stout, it seems, as when we are side by side watching a football game.

Belicheck is on the headset......so he's communicating with someone, whereas John stoically sits in his parka..........although you may be right, he could be scheming....and I cant argue with the record he has......although when you have lots of DI and DII castoffs, it helps..........

I have never seen John sit on the bench.  John is walking all over the place, talking to everyone.  Ask any player who made a mistake if John was "stoic" when they came off the field and John got up in their face.

What DI castoffs?

I don't know that I would call the guys who transfered from DII schools castoffs.  There are multiple reasons they chose to leave DII schools.  Like some school that decided to go D-1A.

While I disagree with BUDefense's point, wasn't Keating a "D-I castoff"?

Secretly I know all you Johnnie's fans want SJU to go to the national championship so you can see Mighty Royal in person!!

Mighty Royal

MR - you have a big D-III game in your neck of the woods saturday, are you going?  You should check it out...

sju56321

Keating was D-I basketball player, if the U qualifies, but not a football player at the U.

realistic

yeah - I knew he played hoops, but I was making the point that he could be considered a "D-I castoff".....I guess in more ways than one with what went down in his time at the U.

Flash: that sounds about right for amount and selection, probably cans are better, easier to dispose of and don't hurt as much when thrown.  ;D
