105--  They were taken hostage, though I can assure you they are safe and resting comfortably.  I'll be sure there's a hostage exchange at the earliest opportunity.

Thanks again, by the way!

Well, it's a real bummer the Johnnies lost, but I am still happy with the game.  They had a chance to win and I was pretty excited listening to the game.  I thought we might get them.  UWW was able to keep up big pressure, though, and that made the difference.  I even think Koefed turned in the top performance - he was under a pile of pressure all game.

All I can say is that I'm glad I have a team to support that is in the hunt every year.  This year was this close.

One comment on Gags - I wonder if his comment on kickers in the Star Tribune was as bitter as they made it sound.  The only quote they have from him is him blasting his players - and they lead with it.  Not the character I know.  Might just be one more reason to vote the Trib the worst paper in America.

BTW, BDB's hockey squad won 14-0 and 10-4 today and son of BDB got his 1st penalty box time and is all proud of it.   :D

Hopefully he won't decide he wants to be an enforcer so that he can spend lots of quality time in the sin bin! ;D ;)

"I don't understand kickers," Gagliardi ranted.

John should have left it at that.  The kicking issues are in my mind a coaching issue as much as anything.

The problem is that there is no kicking coach.

Does any team in the MIAC have a kicking coach?  I know the Cobbs don't.

The byline for the Strib story is not by a regular writer for the paper, so it must have been a stringer from Cheeseland. Probably someone not totally familiar with Gagliardi and his quips. The Times' use of a kicker quote said Gagliardi "joked afterward," and I too feel it probably was said jokingly, although he probably was quite ticked. The crucify part was probably a little harsh, but I'm assuming that was joking too since I doubt John wanted the guy literally nailed down on an oversized cross.

Of course, it's still perfectly rational to call the Trib the worst paper in America, based on the writings of a stringer who's not even employed by them ::) And the Strib is so horrible, it never gives the Johnnies any coverage ;)

Congrats to the Johnnies on a great season. I was hoping for another week of football chatter on the board, but I can deal with Anna Fridays instead.

I take it you work at the Strib?  I'm not looking to cause strife with that line and their Johnnies coverage does not give reason to crusade against the paper.  If I caused offense, then I apologize.

I do think we can both agree that a bad, and likely unfair, light on Gags was picked and published.  And on that count, with that article, I'll back John.  And I agree, the SCTimes story most likely reflected the correct mood of the comment.

Naw, don't work at the Strib. Wasn't offended or anything, just wanted to show that the writer wasn't one of the regulars who usually writes about the Johnnies (Reusse and the college beat guys), and might not have been as used to John's humor (not to mention his history with kickers and their inability to make anything for him other than extra points).

I recall Wonka mentioning that GAC brought in a "Kicking Consultant" this year.

I agree that this is an issue that, come play-off time, can cause lots of problems.

I would be interested to see if Mount Union or any of the other Top 10 teams have any special kicking coaches on staff.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

What about using the soccer coach?  Seems that when I was in school, all the NFL place kickers except for Stenerud (or however it's spelled) were Latin American soccer players.

To my knowledge 2 of the 3 kickers this season at SJU have soccer backgrounds. My opinion is that there is an element of psychology with this. There may even be performance anxiety involved. This is common in golf, where a player can make a putt in the practice rounds but cannot make a putt when the tournament is on the line. This is a discussion that could go on and on, but there are documented cases of this type of thing in different sports from all corners of the world. Some people thrive on pressure and others do not. Managing the pressure and turning it into a positive is the thing I feel a kicking coach could bring to the table

See everyone makes fun of me for being a kicker...but come down to cruntch time you depend on them...ha!

Mighty Royal

Only because there is no other option. Given the choice, I think all true football players, coaches and fans would elect to have kickers banned from all aspects of the game except punts and Kick-offs. Make 2-pt conversions mandatory and if you're too close to punt, you go for it on 4th down.

I hate the thought that monstrously muscular men battle back and forth for 59 minutes + only to have a 5'6 140lb latino with a cheesy moustache come out and decide the game. :P

Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Now, we don't know for certain that MR is Latino.  :)

And I think if SJU started to use tackling dummies they could find a spot for all those kickers.
