I feel like I'm fighting a losing effort considering I'm in big 10 country. And thats fine, it comes with the territory. But lets say Michigain goes instead of Florida and gets beat (again). Then everybody would come out and say "See, they already had gotten beat, now we robbed Florida of their shot", or something to that effect. So we would once again have a controversy and everyone would be pissed that we were that dumb to put Michigain in against a team that they had already shown they couldnt beat. And while i understand that they only lost by 3 points, let us not forget that for the most of the latter part of the game that they were playing with a 10 point deficit. they would score and cut it to three, and OSU would tear apart that vaunted defense in a matter of two or three minutes, and put it right back at a ten point lead.

and while I hear bitching and moaning about the BCS, you have to look at the reason it was created: to avoid a split national title. Unfortunately for the system, it has come across a couple years where there were too many undefeated teams (3 undefeateds in 2004: Oklahoma, USC, Auburn) or too few (this year). Look back at the year before it was implemented: 1997, two lone unbeatens in Michigan and Nebraska that split the title. If it was like that very year, there wouldnt be a problem, because those two teams would sure to meet in the national title game under the BCS system. However, life aint that easy. There are gonna be years like this, where maybe there is only one unbeaten left at the end of the season and tough decisions have to be made.

While i think everyone would like a playoff, I think a more logical system is the game-after scenario previously mentioned on this board. Play the four main bowl games and have the winners play for the title. Im not positive, but I believe that this has been an idea under heavy discussion among the BCS committee, as it would keep the bowl structure in place and would assuage much of the anger of the #3 and 4 teams who feel like they are constantly left out of the mix.

Greetings to all my post-mates. Looks like football season is over and ice fishing season has begun for me. Too bad they had to overlap last weekend. KR might want to look this up, but there's still time to conceive and give birth to a child before SJU runs another play. So you young bucks be careful now if you want to attend the home opener and not give us some lame-ass excuse like your wife's having a baby.
Good weekend partying with Britney, Lindsay and Paris up at the Orr Muni. Maybe you guys have seen the pictures already.
Congrats to UWW and good luck the rest of the way.

No, don't think I'm going to even attempt it. Is there a Cliffs Notes for this thing? Other than football, what'd I miss? 8)

I agree with all who have posted about reform in the BCS bowl system (which is curious, I know, because different versions have been proposed). This is the healthy discussion...how to make things better. I feel the more that gets put on the table about tweaking or revamping a poor system the better.

Ranting about how broken the system is and who got ripped off does not in itself spawn better ideas. This is a commentary on media in general, not on the post-patterns faithful. Glad to see the creative juices flowing.
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

Fins,

How was the spearing?
It was quite good, Duff, better than the last couple of years. We were 1st one's out on the ice. 2-5" range but mostly 4" on Friday, 6" by Sunday. Got about 6" of snow on Sunday. Out of 12 guys, there were 5 fish in the 10-15 lb. range and many smaller. Had a great fish fry on Saturday night with fish to take home. Can't wait to get back out there.

Mainly Duff, KR and the boyz dueling with the Warhawk posters, mostly on their board.

Duff posted a priceless Leave It To Beaver pic that you need to find.  :D

Excellent!
Since I missed a couple of days last week, allow me to slip one in here a little late...

A Wisconsin gal was shopping at a Target Store and came across a silver thermos. She was quite fascinated by it, so she picked it up and brought it over to the clerk to ask what it was. The clerk said, "That's a thermos . . . it keeps some things hot and some things cold." "Wow, said the gal, "That's amazing. I'm going to buy it!" So she bought the thermos and took it to work the next day. Her boss saw it on her desk. "What do you have there?" he asked. "Why, that's a thermos . . it keeps hot things hot and cold things cold," she replied. Her boss inquired, "What do you have in it?" The gal replied, "Two Popsicles, and some coffee."

The question of why Wisconsin did not get a BCS bid came up on another board, and the answer given there was that by rule the BCS can not take 3 teams from the same conference.

It is, I knew that when I posted.
This is yet another reason why the BCS is bullsh*t!

If the top 4 teams in the nation are from the same conference, don't punish that conference for being awesome and better than the rest of the nation, reward them

I say take the top 6 teams, set up a playoff bracket where #'s 1 and 2 get byes, 3 plays 6 (winner plays 2), and 4 plays 5 (winner plays 1) with the games all held at neutral sites... maybe even at the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl...

I know no matter how large the playoffs are, the last team left out will whine, but I think taking the top 6 is sufficient to encompass all teams worthy of being there while rewarding the top 2 teams for their regular season prowess.

Fins,
Welcome back!   +k and one more each day this week!

Yes, entirely possible to conceive and deliver before game 1 with plenty of time to spare.

Gentlemen and Bennie, let this serve as your official warning: wrap it until at least late March. That will keep you baby free through the season.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Hey everybody. I don't really have anything to say.  I was finally at a game for once this week, and saw a pretty good football game.  My only real thought on the game is that Kofoed makes too many mistakes..  But, I don't think I should be too critical of him, since I've only seen him play like 5 times in the past three years..  And, since I really don't have much else to say I was just wondering.. Wildcat11, how did Linfield fare this year? Are you dragging your tail between your legs right now?  It's ok.. Don't worry. Linfield will make it to the playoffs next year and the Johnnies declaw you.
Touchdown, Jackrabbits!

I find it quite conspicuous that fins returns to St. Cloud on the day that Hooters opens in the greater St. Cloud Area.  While I was driving by today, I thought I caught a glimpse of him pressed against the window...doing what appeared to be a very adapted version of the "Hump".
