OK Johnnie fans.......let's take care of business next year so the WEST can quit sending pretenders.  It's really all about SJU and Mount.  It's time to renew our play-off fun.

What was up with the exchanges between Jacobs and Beaver?  About 5 or 6 times that the exchange was fumbled/bobbled.  After 2 years of handoffs, I was very surprised that this occured.

It was just a matter of time before WW's punter got a kick blocked.  I have seen the videocasts in the playoffs and I noticed right away that he just takes too long to get kicks off.  I believe St John's tipped one of his punts.

As for WW, a lot of questions going into next year replacing players and coach(es).  However, I am sure they will have a great year next year.  They still have a lot of talent

As for Mount Union, I expect to see them in next year's Stagg Bowl.

Musta been nerves.... it woulda helped to have had a few of those bungles vs the Johnnies....  :o

One more thing.  I thought the color guy was terrible.  I only saw the final 10 minutes of the game or so, but he sounded near-death and/or drunk.

Woody;  Commentator Mike Gotfried looks alright physically but you're correct he sounds as if he suffering from some type of debilitating disease.... too much contact prolly.

I was willing to look past his trailings as he was quite psyched about DIII saying he'd rather be at the Stagg Bowl than any other big time game.... maybe he did have a few before hand!  ;D

Developing.....

Gotfired has done color commentary for a few Hawkeyes games that I have laughed through... uh watched this year and to be honest, I think based on how he talks now compared to previous years I think he has had a stroke.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Where were Jacobs' happy feet against SJU? He did not look comfortable in the pocket yesterday and was overthrowing receivers that were open.  He had time to throw the ball, but just didn't deliver like he did against SJU.  Then again, his receivers didn't make the unbelievable catches like they did against SJU last year either.  There were several times that you'd see two UWW receivers within 5 yards of one another 20 yards from scrimmage-- that never helps a QB when one db can cover two receivers.

Kleppe looked slow.  They double-teamed him, sure, but he was ineffective.  Makes you wonder whether SJU could redo their strategy in regard to him with different results.

I think MUC took the SJU tape and used it as a template to beat UWW.  Their crossing routes to Garcon were right out of the SJU playbook; they took Kleppe out of the game and forced the other UWW players to step up, and MUC just outlasted UWW from there on.   Congrats to MUC for their number 9; congrats to UWW for playing close for one half, but UWW just made two many little mistakes that added up against a good MUC team.

A big congrats to team USA as well. A 28 - 7 performance in the Aztec Bowl vs the Mexico all-star team.  My wife and I listened (super old school style) to the game via the web feed (basically the modern day radio) while she did some knitting and I read the newspaper.  How freakin old is that.  Saturday night, still both of us are technically college kids, and we sat around like old folks from the 1920's.  But, the US team won.  They racked up 344 yards of total offense, but lost 169 yards on 19 penalties.  Unfortunately for the US side, according to the play by play guys, many of these calls were phantom calls made by the local refs attempting to even the playing field a little. As a comparison, the Mexican team had 3 pealties for 25 yards.  A little bit too one-sided for me.  I have to give a nod to my teammate, Andrew Neumann who caught 3 passes for 31 yards.  Not a normal performance for him, but still doing his part and also, the 3 receptions tied him for most receptions in the game with two other US players.  I heard Tyler Schultz' (Hamline) announced a couple of times, and Ledyard (CC) as well a few times but it didn't sound like the other two MIAC guys were used as much as they could have been. Gearmann and Carr did not get a lot of mention during the game, and I am interested to know why.  But, Congrats to team USA.

Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

Esquire;  You are correct on the MUC passing routes, the only difference was The PRaiders continued to exploite the middle where SJU either looked to other plays or weren't able give Alex enough time under the Kleppe rush... (more football acumen for the fishman).

UDubDub defensive line/backers looked slow... the MUC offensive line handled Kleepe and Garcon just ran past everyone.  UDubDub did a good job limiting Kmic to a below average day relative to his outrageous stats.

Agreed also UDubDub QB Justin Jacobs threw line drives when he needed to float'em and otherwise was just plain innacurate... and again, how 'bout all those missed hand offs to Beaver.

I did like the leftie QB for MUC but he will be exploited when SJU meets them in the finals.

Johnnie Fans;  Are your ready for a near 300 pounder on the defensive line for coach Haugen?  Phone it in!

I'd be willing to bet that he doesn't posess the attributes that Jerry and Gary look for in a d-lineman.  I'm hoping he'll be a sweet guard.

Another good year in football, and here's hoping for more next year.  I'm off until kick-off '07.

Merry Christmas, all.  I hope you have been good all year and that Santa brings you what you asked for.

And yes, I believe he has had a stroke recently. Also remember that he had to cover three Gopher football games this year. The Stagg Bowl was the best matchup he'd seen all year.
