Mmm, Bockfest.  Can't wait.

Bockfest - isn't that where this picture was taken?

I believe the festival name begins with a "C"

TDT,
Can you confirm this? I heard you were last year's master of ceremonies!
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Johnnie Esq., speaking of hockey, great series last weekend at the U, that was some good hockey! And SJU split with UST, not so good.

HaHA Zip!  Reminds me of what the Gophs did in Grand Forks to the Sue last year...and see how well it worked for the Gophs then...

Seriously, the Sue earned it and Gophs just stunk the place out.

But the Johnnie/Tommie split is a travesty...should have been a Johnnie sweep...

Esq, 56321, anyone who saw the Sioux/Gophs hockey game last weekend:

I saw a highlight on SportsCenter where the Sioux player shot from his own goalline, the puck bounced down the ice, and the Gophs goalie missed it.  Were you guys watching that?  Simply THE most unbelievable goal I have ever seen.  Are you kidding me?  I am glad I didn't see that live.  Woulda been sick to my stomach.  Fundamentals baby.  That is why the Johnnies are successful as well as Son of BDB's team...

Bennie: Do you have HDTV?  These hockey games in HD are unreal.  Saw the Rangers/Bruins game tonite and flipped back and forth b/w regular Versus network and the game in HD.  Wow.

I'm sure you will see that goal for sometime. It was fairly odd. The puck just took a bad bounce and leaped over Frazee's pad. I remember saying, "are you f-ing kidding me?"

Great story about Marcus LeVesseur from Rosen's Sports Sunday HERE

Yeah.  Most amazing hockey play since Mike Legg of Michigan flipped the puck off the Gopher goaltender's back and into the net.  Absolutely wonderful to be the recipient of both of those.   ::)

On the good side, it forced me to open up another Lienie's.  After that one I knew I was going to need it.

All I can say is Gump Worsley would never have allowed a goal like that. I remember being at the game at the old Met Center when Gumper took a slap-shot to the forehead. His arms went to his sides and he just went down, face-first to the ice. For 5 or 10 minutes he lay completely motionless while being tended to. 15,000+ people thought Gump was dead. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore.

It's a sad day at the Finsleft household today. I had to have Roxie, my Springer Spaniol and faithful companion for 11 1/2 years, put to sleep this morning. It's not going to be the same in the fishhouse without her.  :'(

TDT-I don't have high def, but one of my friends with a titanic sized tv does so we watch hockey there a lot! ;) As painful as it is to watch the Bruins suck so hard, it is nice to see Kessel on the ice again. He played great in the YoungStars game.

Fins-I am sorry to hear about Roxie. It is always heartbreaking to lose a good friend.

Gump Worsley!! There is a name I haven't heard in a long time! It is always strange to watch/see pictures of old games pre-helmets and goalie masks. Those guys were crazy! :D

In the old days goalies kept track of the number of stitches they had had taken in their faces. As I recall, well seasoned NFL goalies often had well in excess of 100. Take 'em out, stitch 'em up and get 'em back in that game as quickly as possible. As one can imagine, teeth were another subject - no mouth guards for a long time. Some one who is more of an old hockey fan than I can give the time frames and other details. And some say modern athletes are tougher than the old timers!

Here are a couple of my favorite player quotes about hockey equipment:

"You can always get someone to do your thinking for you." Gordie Howe when asked why hockey players always wear a protective cup but rarely a helmet.

"It's common sense isn't it? I know for some guys it's a macho thing, but that's nuts. If guys are so tough when they don't wear visors, why don't they play the game without a jock? I mean, you've got two balls, right?" Brendan Morrison who has always worn a visor when asked about making them mandatory.

Speaking of hockey equipment, check out this helmet by Hall of Famer Ace Bailey.

Looks like he is shaking hands with Jack Ruby in Dallas.  :D

Fins -

Sorry to hear about Roxie...   I've got a couple of those little friends at home and dread the day they need to be put to sleep.
