PI - GAC was looking to start some sort of random drug testing in 2005. I believe everything was all set to start in following Luther's gameplan, but I haven't heard anything about it since I graduated. It may have fallen through when the cost to do so was tallied.

Mongo - I just put your shirt in the wash. It will come back next time I'm invited over.

Update on GAC's football stadium
Who starts digging BEFORE getting bids from contractors? I may be a rookie with such endeavors (if you don't count my extensive Madden stadium building projects), but that seems simply asinine to me. Sounds like it isn't a sure thing to get done by next fall as well, which could be interesting... ???

Sounds similar to a professional baseball team building a new stadium before they purchase the land. WTF?

Willy- Don't forget to put Mongo's shirt in the dryer on high heat so it dries faster

Gustavus upset St. Thomas in basketball last night, once again proving that I and Frank R are better than TDT.

Whadya mean Mongo? SJU also beat St. Thomas, the only difference is that it was not considered an "upset".

True. You are also better than TDT (stating obvious?) and Wonka, since my shirt is not in my hands yet.
As for the "upset" factor, I plead the 5th.

TDT--since there is snow on the ground, we should find another sport that we can monkey stomp Wonka at for the next time you're in town. Discuss.
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

A truly honorable man helps a young elephant,  read on...

In 1986, Mkele Mbembe was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University.

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air.

The elephant seemed distressed, so Mbembe approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it.

As carefully and as gently as he could, Mbembe worked the wood out  with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments.

Mbembe stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away.

Mbembe never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Mbembe was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son.

As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Mbembe and his son Tapu were standing.

The large bull elephant stared at Mbembe, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down.  The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Mbembe couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant.

Mbembe summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure.

He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder.

The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of  Mbembe's legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same elephant.....

Hey JR, have OAS and yourself had any discussions about the annual MIAC Championship Cookout?

For those unaware, here was last year's website: http://www.geocities.com/onearmedscot/stiftungsfest.html

It is only 16 days away.

sumander

I suspect everyone probably caught the story in the Strib about the MIAC leading D-lll in football attendance again last year! Here is the Press Release . The Johnnies lead all of D-lll for the 10th time in 14 years!
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

A different kind of Anna Friday......

Talk about burning the candle at both ends.

Thanks BDB.  Not complaining, but I prefer the other Anna!

A sincere congrats to the Johnnies and the MIAC for leading NCAA D3 in attendance again.  To me the most impressive thing is by how much SJU leads all other schools.  Did you happen to notice that UW-Whitwater and the WIAC were third this year?  I know........I know........considering that the WIAC schools have undergrad enrollments that average somewhere around 8K, what is nothing to brag about.   ;) ;D 8) ::)  Also, that attandance record was helped considerable by having the Johnnies as our guests again this year and the Perk attendance record was broken at the UWW/UWL conference game.
"Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!"  Dennis Miller

piperinsider, I just left a message for OAS. The annual MIAC basketball championship cookout should not be a problem. I will be at the girls' state hockey tournament at the Xcel Center that day handing out medals and trophies, but I should be able to get away for the cookout. I will keep you posted.

AUPepBand was pleased to see that Alfred improved considerably in attendance in 2006 and actually led the Empire 8 in attendance with an average crowd of 2,739 for six games, half of which were played in inclement weather. Certainly helps to have rivals Hobart, St. John Fisher and Ithaca at Merrill Field. Nowhere near the Johnnies, but #35 in the land of 229 D3 schools. AU's program still on the rise, having gone 25-8 the past three seasons, each culminated with an ECAC Bowl victory.

Pep would be pleased to personally add to the Johnnies' attendance numbers by appearing at the Sept. 1 Marietta game when AU doesn't play. Pep prefers also to partake of Stiftungfestivities as that appears to be a staple of Johnnies football.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Johnnie Red

Pep, if you are interested, you can have one of my reserved seats for the game. I am on the 45 yard line. I can get you your ticket at the Stiftungsfestivities. It will be great to have you join us.

It's way more than that, Pep. It's a staple of life itself.
