Coming to you live from Boulder, CO! Got to spend the weekend with my "little girl" at CU. She is going to pick me up at 7:00 a.m. this morning to take me to the airport in Denver. I'm sure that will be a challenge for her to get out of bed before noon on the weekend. ;) Yesterday she took me on a trek up to the flatirons. She was wondering why her dad was getting so tired as we reached the top. Must be that age thing. :D

I knew the weekend in Boulder was going to be wonderful when I discovered that the person seated next to me on the flight from Mpls was a graduate of Bethel. :P

Then yesterday I was walking through a farmer's market that was set up in Boulder. I had on one of my Johnnie football t-shirts. As I was walking by one of the booths, a guy yells out to me, "Are you a Johnnie?" I said yes and started talking to him. Turns out it is coach Gagliardi's nephew who lives in Boulder. I must be living right!

Johnnie Red:

Great story! As for the "age thing," don't be too quick to attribute your tiredness to age when you're also dealing with elevation. Alfred is located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in western NY where peaks hit 2300 ft. above sea level. Yours truly ran the Hot Dog Day 5K Fun Run, crawling up the hills as my Habitat friend ran them backwards to stay back with me. We finished the 3.1 miles in 27 minutes, 59 seconds.

Alfred's football team had their speed tests recently and upon learning the time of AU's fastest, Vinson Hendrix, and seeing him across the gym during Late Nite McLane (open gym with free pizza, etc.), I went over to him and said, "I'll race you to the bleachers" and I took off...and, of course, since he didn't know what was coming, I beat him. I then told him that if the bass drum player in the Pep Band can run faster than our fastest football player then, indeed, AU football is in deep trouble.

At 51, it's all down hill from here....

Do any of the MIAC schools have JV football teams - or does the conference not permit them?  I posted a query about this on the general board and found that a number of schools outside the MIAC have JV programs (surprise - Mt. Union has a very healthy JV program).  I recognize that some of the MIAC schools probably wouldn't have enough players to do it but it would seem to make sense for some others.  And there might be some great games - like Johnnie JVs versus Northwestern varsity! :D

Yes, I believe UST, GAC, and Bethel have them, and I think Concordia has one as well.  I'm not sure about Hamline and St. Olaf, and I don't think Augsburg, MAC, or Carleton have them.  SJU definitely does NOT have one.

Remember, the Northwestern (Roseville) JV beat the Bethel JV, so lookout for those Eagles!

St. Olaf does indeed have a JV team

"You have to go back to the MIAC's early years, to 1923, to find St. Olaf winning an outright football title.
The Oles will be the favorites to claim that distinction this fall. The MIAC's 40-member first team all-conference group contained 12 players from St. Olaf's 6-2 team. And all were sophomores or juniors."

You're confusing the end of the world with the middle of nowhere.

St Olaf favorites to win the MIAC this year? Maybe if you surveyed Northfield townies at the Legion bar.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

And even then those people would probably change their mind if they were told SJU has beaten them by a combined score of 100-30 over the last two years.

Who are you? Where did this logic come from? And what have you done with the real Thefreebird? :D

Is there a chance anybody makes it to work today in SF/Oakland? When your roads start to burn up, that's gotta be a sign from somewhere. :D

Nice to take 2/3 at the Det Tigers joint, but with Johan going on Sunday damn that looked like a sweep.

Nice job by Silva and Ortiz however.  :)

True. All in all, a good weekend for da Twinks. Poor Johann, what is he, 0 for the last 3 starts?

Getting TO work isn't the problem - those roads are okay. :P  But it's not going to be any fun trying to go home to Oakland and beyond from San Francisco until they rebuild the overpasses.>:(  It'll be interesting to see if they can do it as fast as LA rebuilt their freeways after their quake in 93.  That was record time - something like 60 days.
