Ancient Communications

After having dug to a depth of 10-meters last year, Scottish
scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years....
and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had
a telephone network more than 100-years ago.

Not to be outdone by the Scots, in the weeks that followed,
British scientists dug to a depth of 20-meters. Shortly
after, headlines in the UK newspapers read: "British
archaeologists have found traces of 200-year old copper wire,
and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced
high-tech communications network one hundred years earlier than
the Scots."

One week later, "The Klub", a Sunburg, Minnesota newspaper
reported the following: "After digging as deep as 30-meters
in corn fields near Games Lake, Ole Johnson, a self taught
archeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing.
Ole has therefore concluded that 300-years ago Norwegians were
already using wireless."

Good news for Fins:

Salem awarded Stagg Bowl through 2009

That IS good news. It's my only consolation in years SJU isn't in the Stagg Bowl: "At least now I don't have to go to Salem."

BDB: No arrests? Tomatoes lobbed on stage? Wiscy babes asking, "Where's Fins?"

BDB

The night went off perfectly, had a blast.

According to officials the early returns had Friday night as the second biggest crowd in Aquafest history!

Fins, did you get my voicemail?  ;D

I did, LMAO.
The Reader's Digest version:BDB call from backstage, Fins, I'm backstage holding a free beer just going to go up and introduce Little Texas, you should be here. Then I hear over the sound system BDB get introduced (cheers from the crowd) then BDB introducing the band (less cheers).
Funny stuff. :D +k for life!

Anyone bored out of their mind, go to www.chaska.tv and click on video on demand.

First day in court today for JJR on my own. Criminal pretrials. Calendar of about 20 cases. So far I have had to take a plea on one, issue a few warrants for no-shows and the rest were worked out between the prosecutors and defendants/defense attorneys.

KR,

Have you heard that Melvin's in Spicer is now Mervin's???

Speaking of WTF is up with that, here's the latest construction update from SJU:

From: Ascheman, Linus
    Sent: Thursday, June 14, 2007 6:48 PM
To: SJU Employees - Urgent Announcements; SJP Faculty/Staff; Liturgical Press; 'Abbey@LS.CSBSJU.EDU'
    Subject: Construction Update

     A couple of updates:

4-Way Stop:  You've no doubt noticed the new hole at the 4-way stop.  A small hole was observed in the asphalt on Tuesday.  Upon inspection it was observed that very little earth remained under the sidewalk at that location.  The immediate suspect was a collapsed storm sewer and that suspicion was confirmed on Wednesday.  A firm will be here tomorrow (Friday) to film the storm sewer so that we can tell how much more of the sewer is damaged.  In the meantime, please use extra caution at the 4-way.

Stella Maris Chapel:  Renovation of the Stella Maris Chapel across Lake Sagatagan began last week.  The field stone buttresses have been removed and will be replaced with concrete buttresses more in scale with the size of the chapel.  The interior will be plastered, and the exterior stuccoed.  The floor will receive 12" X 12" Mexican tile.  Stained glass windows will be installed, along with a new securable entry door.

The chapel should be considered closed during this work.

The chapel renovation is being fully funded by a prep school alum, Don Hall, as a gift from the prep school to the larger Saint John's community on the occasion of the sesquicentennial.

    Thank you.

     Br. Linus

Stucco on the chapel? Say it ain't so. :'(

KR,

I was just there a few weekends ago, I thought it said Melvin's but I wasn't looking that closely.

Rumor: My current attending doc (OB/GYN rotation) is leaving for vacation tomorrow and will be gone until June 29th and recommended that I "spend a few hours a day reading if you want to, as long as you don't tell the school, I won't and you can have the time off. Go fishing, or sleep in or whatever the hell you want to do."

;D ;D ;D ;D :o :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D ;D

Why on God's green earth are the remodelling the Stella? It's perfect the way it is. Probably want a prettier view from the St John's "we Sold our school's soul and all we got was a butt-ugly hotel" department.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Re: Mervin's/Melvin's

I think Mervin's is easier to say when you're drunk so there were probably lots of people already calling Melvin's Mervin's.

Now that is a wicked line of thunderstorms beating down on my world.  ;D

sumander

BDB, Looks like the same one that went through here about 10:00 last night.  Went for a drive down by the beach on my lunch hour. Saw at least 3 pontoons flipped over and so many trees down that I couldn't count them all. Sounds like a small tornado hit about 15 milews south of DL last night! Wicked stuff.

Went through here a few hours ago.  Lots of rain, but nothing too exciting.

Talk about destructive weather! Last night I was putting a new light on my boat trailer, and a gust of wind came up, blew a cushion off a chair, which then hit my Hamm's can, spilling my beer.  :'( :'(
