Retired Old Rat

Interesting article in the Eau Claire paper yesterday about former Stout coach Todd Strop.

Happy to see that he landed at Hamline.

I think Augsburg is doing what it can on an extremely landlocked urban campus.

Agreed.  Their renovations to Edor Nelson are nice compared to what it was.

Though the bandbox of a field does make for a fun atmosphere when full-- back when Hvistendal was there, the place was jammed and rocking.  The old rug has been replaced by an upgrade to Sprinturf, and they knocked down the old watchtower of a press box too.

Any of you hockey fans see the front page of tofay's Strib?  It's about Boogaard's summer camp devoted to the art of throwdowns - the Aaron Boogaard Fighting Camp.  Dont worry though - he not only teaches how to punch but also how to avoid getting hurt.  Ask me now why i cant get interested in perĂ² hockey.

Probably attended by several NBA guys.  ;D

I don't like the fighting in the NHL myself, but I don't let those moments of play disruption keep me from enjoying all the rest of the game.

Speaking as a non-NHL guy, it looks to me like the NHL clearly tolerates the fighting and comes close to celebrating it.  If they wanted to stop it, clearly they could do more.  And if someone in the NBA or NFL even ran a school on how to taunt, much less fight, I think the league would take action.  They don't tolerate fighting in the Olympics, why tolerate it in the NHL?  Sorry, when Barry Melrose (one of the chief celebrators of the throw-down) comes on, I change channels.

Sorry; lack of history kills appreciation every time.  Still, it's smaller than the high school stadiums where I live, which, with a few exceptions, is lacking in fervor for the sport.  And while their stadium indeed is landlocked now, I have to think the space allotted is the result of a choice made years ago, when I suspect space was more plentiful, rather a situation thrust upon them by a dense urban environment such as exists now.

Not sure how many years you have to go back to find space around Augsburg. Between the university, which has been there for years, and the interstate (similar) there's not a lot of land.

I'm also glad to hear Todd has joined the Pipers coaching staff. Hopefully he can help us beat teams other than GAC, AUG, MAC and Morris.

That "old rug" was like playing on a concrete slab. Plus having both benches on the same sideline is not always a good idea, by any means, especially when Jesse Ventura was the strength coach at AUG at the time....

Sounds like "not sure" sums it up.

That place was horrendous before their recent rennovations!  The only good part about having both teams on the same sideline was that it was comical to listen to their coaches screaming at them when we were up by 40.

A tradition unrivaled...

Todd will do an awesome job at Hamline as the D-Coordinator.

Hot rumor in BlueDevil land is that former UW-Whitewater coordinator Stan Zwiefel now a coordinator at UW-River Falls is all set to be the next Stout Head Coach after this year.

But since that type of a scenario would necessarily mean that the Chancellor here would need to be involved at this stage and give a rip about athletics I doubt it is true.

I got to see Jake Theis Saturday night at Barbecue Days in Belle Plaine. Sounds like he is enjoying med school and rotations. The celebration was rocking, as always, in party town USA. Next celebration to attend: Rails to Trails Days in Watertown this coming weekend. Great band playing Friday night: The Funk Junkies.

Hope to see many of you this coming Thursday night at the Chaska baseball park for MIAC Night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Stiftungsfest burgers will be served. Raiderguy will be making a guest appearance with his MUC(K) garb on.

Greetings to everyone on the MIAC board.  So how hot is this rumor, BDB?  Quite an interesting turn of events if it happens.

The rumor is flying around but I believe it is bogus at this point.

I say that on the premise that it makes too much sense and those kinds of decisions have not been the norm around here lately.

That plus the interim coach deserves the chance to see what he can do with the job, although loyalty hasn't paid dividends around here lately either.

footballfan413

Well, I don't believe that Z will be happy until he has HC behind his name and it will be in the WIAC somewhere so that he can maintain his retirement benefits.  He would be great for the program..................just the guy to kick some a$$, IMHO!   ;D
