Had an enjoyable evening on Friday with the tmerton family. Fed them traditional meat and potatoes at the Hayloft in Luxemburg (MN, not Germany) then out on the pontoon. We must've overdone it on the M & P, cuz the dock broke when we all stood on one section, and we weren't even jumping up and down like crazed Bethel fans. Should've required a damage deposit as the timber and glass breakage was substantial ;).
Tm and Mrs. tm were showing obvious indicia of a week criss-crossing northern Minnie as they were identifying birds by song (and not just loons!)and answering questions with "You betcha."

fins, you needed to get a pole in tmerton's hands so he could reel in a pike.

That way he could have posted a picture of his catch ala Duffman.  ;D

Plus, he could have licked it to see how it tasted. A little wine & slime.  8)

I got to see Jake Theis Saturday night at Barbecue Days in Belle Plaine. Sounds like he is enjoying med school and rotations. The celebration was rocking, as always, in party town USA. Next celebration to attend: Rails to Trails Days in Watertown this coming weekend. Great band playing Friday night: The Funk Junkies.

Hope to see many of you this coming Thursday night at the Chaska baseball park for MIAC Night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Stiftungsfest burgers will be served. Raiderguy will be making a guest appearance with his MUC(K) garb on.

The local squad that my roommates play for take on Norwood, but I'm going to see if my new (hopefully special) lady friend will attend with me. I'll be in Hamline jersey. She's be in her Bison attire.

BDB - As Nebraska fans used to say so often (back in the 80s when Oklahoma owned them), "Next year." ;D  I promise pics from next year's trip up to the BWCA(W).

Fins is a remarkable host.  Even tempered, a great hand with the throttle on the pontoon, and can turn in circles for hours.  Now if he can just get the sheriff off his ass for running without running lights (Aw, gee, it's just a fuse or loose wire!).

If you're gonna do fireworks on Fins' lake, keep your powder dry!!!

Piperinsider, it will be great to see you and your special lady friend at the MIAC Night. Both of you will be honored to know that Money Magazine just ranked Chaska as the 8th best town in America. It is the highest-ranking town in the state and the only Minnesota town in the top 25. Hopefully the Chaska Cubs baseball experience played a part in the recognition. ;)

From Shooter today:

St. John's legendary football coach John Gagliardi, 80, on a suggestion that the Gophers could learn from him when they open training camp in Collegeville Aug. 5: "The only thing they could learn from me is how to stay alive."

I wouldn't downplay that, however. It's an important skill. :)

D O.C.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Land 'O Lakes to visit cousins in Stillwater.

Let's see...did I get this right? O'Shaughnessy (or just Shaughnessy?) gets kicked out of Collegeville and starts Tommieville?

And now I know when I wear my OAS complementary Macalester tee shirt I am symbolizing all the coeds standing on Summit Avenue.

With recent events in Dinkytown, they may need lessons about how to stay out of jail, too.

The Birkenstock store is one block south on Grand.

I was told prior to our walk down Grand Avenue that the powers had managed to keep chain stores from locating there.  I was therefore surpised to learn that Starbucks and Pizza Hut, among others, are not chain stores. :D  Giving credit where due, however, I suspect that keeping Starbucks to two stores in an eight block area could be considered a victory of sorts for locals. ;)

Some not good stuff going down with the Gophers football team

QuoteThe woman's blood-alcohol level was estimated at least 0.30 percent by a doctor who reviewed police reports and witness statements, according to the criminal complaint. Stephen Smith, the doctor, based his estimate on her size and weight and descriptions of the amount of alcohol consumed

Yeah, seems like a really reliable way to estimate it.  ::)

I wonder if it's too late for SJU to "un-invite" these guys.
