What about dropping the age back down to 18?  Old enough to enlist, kill or be killed in a war, old enough to drink . . . I think.

Kaiser is about to make some big changes....

Well, Kaiser has already made big changes ... but then so has the Navy, KR.

In deed, don't ask don't tell!

Speaking of that beer stuff, in celebration of an Irishman winning "the Open" on Sunday I sat down and had a Smithwick's Irish ale.

Good stuff - I first had it in Ireland a few years ago and they just started selling it in bottles where I live.  Not as good as getting it on tap in the auld sod, but pretty tasty anyway.  I didn't see it at West Side when we were there last week, but Guinness seems to be putting more effort into push their brands here so who knows.  BDB can tell us if we're likely to see it in MN soon, right? ;)

Tmerton: Recap your trip to MN.  Highlights, lowlights, people, places.  Did you make it out by Lake Minnetonka?  Gorgeous this time of year...

Trip started with two nights in Alexandria; dinner at the Depot one night and dinner at some place up the road from Bugaboo Bay the next.  Kayaking at Glacier Lake.  Other than one night at the end of the trip, this was the only time we made reservations in advance; it was hard to find a lake resort with a place for just 2 nights but we were lucky.  The rest of the time we just got up in the morning, decided where to drive and when we got there looked for a place to stay.  We may have been lucky but it worked fine.

One night in Duluth in a brand new place down on the waterfront (Canal Park Drive); took in the aquarium (that could use an infusion of capital from one of your relatives, TDT); next day drove up to Two Harbors, then Split Rock Light House, and then up to Ely (must have seen maybe 10 cars between Two Harbors and Ely).

We spent the next two nights in Ely (HIGHLIGHT), including dinner one night at the Burntside Resort (HIGHLIGHT).  Stayed at the Grand Ely Lodge, which was nice and yet close to town.  Spent some time talking to outfitters about a trip next summer to the BWCA(W).  Mrs. tmerton found an old childhood friend whose family owned a resort on Lake Vermillion (Pike Bay) where her family used to vacation, so that was a definite highlight for her.

One night in the Brainerd area; no golf but I got to see the summer camp (Camp Lincoln) I went to many many years before TDT was born.  Found pictures of family still on the wall.  371 is just a little busier then when I was last there.  Stayed at Craguns, where they have these nice notices at every entrance warning you that guns aren't allowed inside.  Not very friendly. :(

One night in St. Cloud, dinner at the Hayloft in Luxemburg with Fins and two of his boys, one of whom runs the orientation desk at SJU.  The Hayloft fish special was followed by a pontoon boat ride on the Fins family lake (HIGHLIGHT!!).  One broken glass and one broken dock. :P

Last day and night in the cities; saw all 4 MIAC football fields in MSP (see previous posts), and then dinner with a bunch of #2 son's friends and some of their parents at Pracna on Main.  Not great food but a fun time.  #2 son has some great friends, and they headed out after dinner - I offered to send Mrs. tmerton with them as long as they dropped her off at the hotel but that wasn't in their plans. ::)

The only day weather was in the 90s was the first day of the trip.  Otherwise weather was fine.  No lowlights other than breaking stuff at Fins' lake (I'm too old for that sh!t) and no Lake Minnetonka either, but all in all a terrific trip.    8) 8)

When I was at Bernick's, Smithwick's was not able for us to get.  Guinness-Diageo said they did not produce enough for Bernick's to get it.  Westside would transport it from one of their other stores into the St. Cloud area.  Not sure if that's the way it still is, but I know that MGM Liquor down the road from me in Mankato has a full supply of the tasty beer.

What has this world come to when people get to use the sacred natural bowl field for "air-baritoning" or whatever the hell you call it when a bunch of band fruits march around with no instruments?

Soccer on the field is bad enough, a band on the field is even worse, but a band with no instruments on that field?

That's like naked Lutheran's in a Catholic church and no one wants to see that.

Hilarious KR! +k when the clock un-shackles me.

Come to think of it, there are a couple of Lutherans I might want to see nekked, not sure of it in church though. :-\

Ahh Smithwicks, the official beer of Knightstalkers band Tad Beefy and the Goitermen.  It goes great with wings.

So the time has come for me to return from my 9 month hibernation from PP .  Hope all is well with everyone.  Looking forward to another great MIAC football season.  I just hope the two teams I will be intently watching this season win more than 5 games between them.

I watched a Dr. Phil rerun last night during which he proclaimed "The way to achieve inner piece is to finish all the things you have started and never finished."

So, this morning I looked around the house to see all the things I started and didn't finish.  Before leaving for work, I finished 11 cans of Bud, a bottle of Grey Goose, a package of Oreo's, half a bag of Dorito's and the rest of the cheescake...

You have no idea how freaking good I feel!!

I hope you left the 2 month old moldy chili alone or we may have to send the paramedics to pump your stomach.

I hope I never achieve "inner piece".  :o

And the last wheel is about to fall off the Twins wagon in Toronto as they continue in their quest for .500.

I was listening to one of the geniuses (genii?) on the broadcast last night refering to the Twins road trip north to Toronto. Hey Marco Polo, check a map. Toronto is south. :P
