Darn, I missed Bonds hit his homerun

It was typical Barry.  He knew it as soon as he hit it.  When he hit 755 he stood at the plate knowing it was going out and with this look on his face like "It's about damn time."  This one he stood at the plate but threw his arms straight up, which I've never seen him do before.

As my son says, displaying his Norcal upbringing, he may be an asshole but he's our asshole.

But don't miss Barry starring in his first major movie role called "It's a Wonderful Game."  See the trailer at superdelux.com http://www.superdeluxe.com/sd/contentDetail.do?id=D81F2344BF5AC7BBBA9C162C218F49D0AC1943DD7C50AA35

RE: August

Well it's August fellas and surprise surprise Freebird and his rambling bunch of idiots have come outta the gate talking sh!t and claiming Bethel gets no respect.  "Oh shouldn't Bethel be favored to win the MIAC".  C'mon get real chief!!!  FYI: I have seen other Royal misfits lurking lately including the babbling and rambling "Royalachilles".

Blah blah blah

Will this be the year Touchdown Tommy stops making SJU look like a bunch of idiots?  Unlikely...

So, any thoughts on what the *big thing* for SJU will be this year?

Obviously, the defense will be expected to cause a bit of fear and be very effective.  Hopefully, Nick "sun of a" Gunderson will be exciting and brutal.

What about on offense?  I suppose that Kofoed will be doing well, but who will be the new Gearman?  Mr. Big Play?  I wonder if we have any Fr or So that will break out in the skill positions this year.  Any hints on who to keep an eye on?

Is it fair to say that we will have a grind-it-out-and-minimize-mistakes-to-win offense?  And we'll be looking to the defense for the big play and game breaking excitement?

Before some think that maybe I'm sounding unappreciative of the greatness of Johnnie football, let me correct you.  I know full well that our average program is miles in front of almost every other school's standout year.  But we don't compare Johnnies against the competition, we compare them against great seasons past.  Call it the burden of high expectations.

Each man makes himself look or not look like an idiot on his own.

Oz,

At reciever I think there are a host of talented players waiting in the wings.  Brian Weber, Derek Solt, and Bryan Busack could all be "big time" players this year, I think.  And I am sure there are one or two that will surprise us.  There's not a whole lot back on offense, which scares me a little, but we'll be fine.  We've got a core group of talented o-linemen back along with Patnode at RB.  I don't see Patnode as a real durable back, though.  Blackmore showed some talent and toughness last year.  I heard rumors of a broken arm for him, but I guess we'll find out for sure before long.  As you mentioned, Kofoed's back.  I hope he's got a fire lit under his arse this year.  It'd be nice to see a "take charge" attitude from him.

"Take charge" is right.

Back in the day in high school I was on the swimming team.  The coach used to award a special team t-shirt to one or two swimmers each year.  It had the school logo on the front and picture on the back of a stooped over man with a piano on his back.   A logo over the picture said "I haul pianos".

The coach gave that special t-shirt to the team members that carried the extra load for the team.  That hauled the pianos over the finish line.  Blake E hauled pianos.  Gunderson may haul the piano this year.

Long story short:  I would love to see Kofoed stand up and carry that piano.

Amen to that!  He doesn't have to be a technically perfect QB, I just want him to lead the team like a QB should.

Looks like to Gophs are breaking the field in well at SJU.  Interesting that every knee visible in this photo has a knee brace on it :o

Good comments Oz and Duff.

After 3 years, the opportunity for AK to take charge is laid at his feet. Much will be expected of him, especially with the loss of other leaders. I agree Duff on Patnode. He's small and can't be relied on to be a pounder. And Blackmore does have a broken arm.
But others always seem to step up and make the most of their opportunities.
I don't see any reason that will change this year.

Anyone else going to the luncheon today?

I know the honorable Judge Johnnie Red is headed up, and I think he's checking out a Gopher practice afterwards.
