Here's an interesting item from Frank the Plank's blog:

* According to St. John's SID Ryan Klinkner, who has checked the numbers on this, 20 players on this season's team have brothers who have played for the Johnnies in the past.

Out of shape...yes, but my delicate flowerness comes more from the fact that I have sensitive skin! Direct sunlight magnified by the water is not my friend! ;D On my jetboat cruise, I remembered the sunscreen so I didn't get sunburned, but I did get windburned! Six hours of about 30 mile per hour derma abrasion! ;D
High sticking, tripping, slashing, spearing, charging, hooking, fighting, unsportsmanlike conduct, interference, roughing... everything else is just figure skating.  ~Author Unknown

Hello to all MIAC PP posters.  Well its football season.  It should be a pretty interesting season this season in the MIAC, with some questions that need to be answered:

1. Will St. Olaf break through this year?
2. Will Concordia bounce back and prove their recent success to be a trend, or a mirage?
3. Will Auggie, Hamline, or Carleton move out of the bottom tier of the league and into the middle tier of the conference?
4. Does Gustavus play better this year, or do they fall into the formentioned bottom tier?
5. Will St. Thomas ever be any better than average??

Planning on a Cobber preview later....
RB George Rogers, about the upcoming season:
"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."

5(a). If the Toms are only average or are below average, will Roney keep his job another year?
6.  Will SJU miss Gearman more than they are letting on?
6(a).  Can Kofoed lead the SJU offense without his top WR and returning RB?
7.  Will Bethel reload or be rebuilding this year?
7(a).  If they reload, can the Royals keep their focus against the middle tier teams (as they do play well against the Johnnies and Oles)?

8. Will J Esq. be doing his pick 'ems this year?
8(a). Will we be getting spreads or will it be straight picks? ( I vote spreads)

Oohhhh!  I can answer this one with certainty!!!

I probably should pass the torch to someone else, since my responsibilities with the high school team will likely force me to miss out on a lot of the action.  Plus, I took over from PI (I think) after two years of him running it so, in deference to his reign, I will do the same.  So if someone else would like to run it, I would be happy to pass along my spreadsheets and how I did it if they wished (it really isn't rocket science...).  So, any takers?

I think MR should get back on the board and volunteer.

This is the first I had heard that Crees is out for the season?  Who's going to back up Kofoed?

Jordan Hansel

He was a frosh last year but played a decent amount.

8-17 for 116 yards and 1 interception in 5 games

I can't remember if they mentioned his name or not, but the coaches yesterday were high on this freshman QB coming in from Holy Angels.

And Duff's FB game was nuthin' compared to his tailgate game now.  ;)

I hear the coaches like the kid from Bemidji too as a possible backup to Koefed and who can be a player in a year or two.  Saw him here in Fergus Falls last year...smart qb who threw for 6 tds here....but he was playing a fairly weak team.

SJUumpire

Although I've been reading these posts for a few years now I just read that you are from Slayton Bennie! If so you had my father for a teacher and we saw you back in 2002 when the Johnnies played Linfield.

On another note 192 players were expected to report for practice on Sunday but only 180 showed up. What happened to the others, although they probably aren't needed?

Oles From Florida

Yeah one of the coaches did coach at Florida. I can understand that the Johnnies don't like that about 1/4 of the Roster is coming from the south, But that is what Coach Meidt has done for this program. In a competitive conference like the MIAC you have to step up your recruiting.

After playing with these florida boys for a while I can say that these guys had a much more serious high school football experience. These guys come as freshman ready to play. Why wouldn't you recruit there? If your answer is a lack of character, then I say to you that these are some of the classiest guys I know.

Saint John's. Yes you have a great program. But how much effort is actually put into recruiting. My guess is little. It might catch up with you one day when the division one and two deserters stop coming to collegeville and there is no recruiting plan to fill the gap. Then all you have is those kids that came to saint john's just to stand on that sideline. That red sea of 200+ jerseys watching 11 Johnnies on the field for 4 years.

I don't mean to cause trouble but I feel that Oles recruiting from Florida mute issue. Meidt is looking to the future of the program. Yes we haven't broken through to the top of the MIAC in the last two seasons, But look at Saint Olaf football from 1979 to before coach Meidt. Those Oles were good men on and off the field, but maybe Meidter has brought that X-factor from the south that will make the difference for the next 20 years

I think you mean moot:D

Why would you think that SJU doesn't put effort into recruiting?  True, the program sells itself, but they recruit plenty of fine athletes.  Just because they pick up a majority of their players from MN doesn't mean that they don't put effort into recruiting.  They've just found a way to win with MN athletes.

I don't think any of us really have a problem with St. Olaf recruiting in Florida.  It just seems strange to see a bunch of Floridians on the roster of a small, liberal arts college in MN.

Has the SCTimes started their Johnnie coverage yet?  I usually just read it from September through December, or rather during the Johnnie football season.  Hell I guess that is September through December.
