Willy Wonka

This link may be of some interest to my fellow MIACers. It looks quite impressive...though I wonder why none of the funds could be dedicated to proper coaching staff and recruiting in football and women's hoops, rather than attempting to pull the plug on each program...

Oh, and has anyone heard from TDT lately? This is usually his time to pick a fight with posters from other MIAC teams, but he hasn't been heard from in more than a week...should Wonka be trying to schedule a new opponent for his cage match??
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Someone should tell those geniuses (genii?) to turn the treadmills around or else put the plasmas on the other wall.

I think I just figured out why they arent any good at football...no one spends any time in the gym, no one works the juice bar, no one watches the game, and they dont have any trainers!

...and what they really need is a couple of those bug cushy couches like theyve got outside the weight room at SJU.  Ive napped on those things in the middle of a busy day and slept better than I could on a cloud with kenny G singing softly in the background.

A bunch of you Johnnies should round up $500,000 and name the Baseball Field something like Gagliardi Field (or something of the like)

Ain't that the truth.  Those couches rock :)

OB27-
That's a great idea. I'm pledging $1,000 to start the "We Suck" field fund. ;D

I think the real problem was having a Tommy contractor ....

I didn't see a weight room in the Macalester renderings; they might want to think about including one if they want to attract serious players - or at least guys who want to sleep on couches.  ;)

The building is monstrous - we saw it (or at least its footprint) this summer.  Renderings and backwards facing treadmills aside, it should be something.

The sleeping was after weight lifting!   ;)

Which reminds me of that great quote by Fred Dean, the pass rushing DE for the 49ers in the mid 80s (for you younger guys, think Jevon Kearse; Al Davis referred to Fred as "Instant Sack").  Yet Fred smoked cigarettes and rarely stepped inside the 49er weight room.  When asked about weight lifting, he responded:

"Every now and then I got the urge to lift weights, and I just went somewhere and lied down until I got over it."

I think they want to practice going backward.  They tend to have to do that a lot.

I also like the windowed wall right behind the basket in the new gym.  With a team of bricklayers...

In seriousness, it looks like a beautiful facility.  Now they need to put some living bodies into it.

If you can believe it I'm sitting at my computer  watching video clips that I shot from a 2002, 9-man state quarterfinal game at Nicollet vs. Chokio-Alberta Herman Norcoss.  My older brother is the coach at Nicollet.
Picture a pasture cleared for a football field, no stadium, just bleachers and most of the fans are standing on the sidelines.  It's got cowbells and screems from the fans as if their very lives depended on winning or losing this game!
IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON!

One of our starting Safeties, Jamie Wagner, played on that Nicollet team (I believe he would have been a senior)
