To talk football for just a second.  After spending the weekend in Moorhead sounds like sophomore andrew larson holds a slight edge over jesse nelson for the starting QB spot this weekend vs. MSU-Moorhead.  Hopefully, CC won't do the shake-up-quaterback spot all season that might result in a repeat 4 win season.

So, Chris56317 has volunteered to assist me in running the pick'em this year, and we're ready to go.  Rules are here, and you can start posting based on the handicapping here.  First kickoff is Noon Saturday, so get it done before then...

Where has Chris been?

Still here.  Just been busy and haven't had much to add.

How about a roll call for Saturday???

I'll be there along with the wife, Cow, his wife, her sister and her husband.  My wife won a 3 foot party sub last week playing rock, paper, scissors, so that's what we'll be bringing.  Fins, don't know if I'll have a chance to whip up a batch of snack mix or not.  Does somebody have the jello covered?

Does your wife know that you call her "Cow"? :D

Only if you would happen to tell her.  :P

Can it flippin' rain any more?  ???  >:(

Lots of rain for a drought year.  ;D

Sounds like good weather for the openers.

I'll be viewing the Devils against the mighty Menlo Oaks Friday night at 6pm.

The Menlo squad was 0-10 two years ago and 5-5 with a forfeit last year.

They beat Macalester in St. Paul by 30 last November.

Duff, it's got to kill you that you can't be in Collegeville this Saturday. Ditch the wedding!  ;)

Missing the game + missing a day of the Labor Day Weekend + Lake Sturgeon opener...I'm sure the wedding will be fun, but there are other things I'd like to do.

Don't worry, I am replanting our backyard this week so I am sure the rain will stop soon.

That would be the kiss of death.

May I suggest in replacing your backyard that you go with green painted concrete or sprinturf.

And absolutely no trees than can fall and hit your house!  :D

Sprinturf would be IDEAL, but our budget doesn't allow for it :'(

Just got a first look at SJU's roster.  I am looking forward to seeing how FY Ludwig of Alex does in the coming years.  I know he will surly  help the track team any other FY that you are excited to see play?

Redtooth

Duff,

Getting SprinTurf at your place would be a far easier sell then the process we went through :o  Sometime over a Fat Tire I can share the joy that was the winter of 2002.  All you would need would be one large donor to help your financing 8)  and a fancy U of Montana video to confuse the monks on what was grass and what was not.

The only downside would be the crumb rubber that you would be dragging into your home.

Johnnie Red

Finsleft, why don't you bring along some hot dogs and buns to provide a little more variety to the culinary delights?

Redtooth, glad to hear from you FINALLY!

Carl Spackler, great to hear from you and hope you are doing well in South Korea.

Had the privilege of meeting a former Johnnie d-back on Sunday in Norwood at the state baseball tourney. He is a `07 graduate and played for Spring Hill. Unfortunately, they got eliminated by Winsted.

Anyone read about the incident at the University of Colorado-Boulder yesterday morning, the first day of class? A former employee of the university showed up on campus and tried to slit the throat of a freshman by the student union. He then went into the student union and stabbed himself. The student is going to be alright. Thank God my "little girl" was not present when this was going on.

D3 Poster

A view from one Pioneer's eye:

SJU reloading vs Marietta building
SJU tradition vs ....well, Pios did win OAC division title in '73
Did you know?  RB Dante Brown set a single game NCAA rushing record with 441 yards in '96.
SJU huge experience advantage at QB.  3 yr starter vs first game starter.
SJU depth advantage...190ish vs 100ish total players
SJU huge coaching experience advantage
SJU home field advantage vs 15+ hour bus ride

After searching long and hard, I did find two advantages for the Pioneers

SJU's does not return a kicker with any made field goals.  Marietta's kicked 8 last year.

MC HC ('99 college grad) has a better 40 time than SJU HC ('49 grad)

Looking forward to the Collegeville experience and hope it's a good game.
