The late punt block aside, the kicking game was dominant.  Kickoffs sailing through the end zone, punts sailing over returners' heads, place kick sailing--get this!--through the uprights.  It really was a thing of beauty.

My Ole insider tells me Penz didn't look very good. Obviously, Gant's drop of a gimme TD to seal that game would have helped the numbers, but the Oles have some work to do.

SJU rolls over a supposed quality opponent. Is this the year Kofoed puts it all together? Can Stolp do the same thing down south?

Oh, and it's a great day to be a college football fan as evidence by this blowout.

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

The Royals losing to BV is a good sign for the Johnnies.  The IIAC goes 2-1 against the MIAC this week.

What a great venue.  Certainly beats anything I've seen in the OAC.

Kofoed was better than advertised and was the difference maker.

SJU running game was suspect and disappointed MC didn't attack the Johnnie corners more...6'4" & 6'1' vs 5'8"?...but wish we had your 'problems'.

Impressed the pressure on our young QBs and with the kick-off guy putting it into the end zone...into the wind.

Good luck the rest of the way....

It was your shirt that did it so don't complain when you give the Raiders their super powers! ;)

Yes it was 52 in the first quarter. Kmic had seven carries for 155 and four TD's and did not see the field after that first quarter.

Five QB's played and their combined passing stats were 17 of 18  completions. Micheli was 9 of 9 and a rushing TD.

Defense scored three times. Blocked punt returned for a TD, fumble recovery returned and a 100 yd interception for a score.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

But Raiderguy, it has to be a little concerning for Mount that they didn't return a kickoff for a touchdown in two attempts. ;)

Concern? That'd be taking place at GAC right now, where a freshman WR got bumped up to 2nd string after dropping a wide open bomb at the preseason scrimmage. Somewhere, Troy Williamson is smiling :-[

I hate being so down on the Gusties. I wish they'd have opened on the normal date like everyone else so I'd have something tangible to whine/crow about. At least I'm already jacked up for next weekend's activities:

Friday: State champ Triton at highly ranked Goodhue, who just beat #5 Roch. Lourdes without its all-state lineman
Saturday: Williamette at GAC for new stadium opener
Sunday: Watching NFL openers with Frank and Mongo at Pattys
Monday: MNF doubleheader on a 65" big screen in the Wing

Wonka is ready for some football!

Before we carve the gravestone for the '07 Royals' MIAC and playoff campaign, let's remember that last year's team lost a real head-scratcher to Carleton before playing some wonderful football down the stretch.  Obviously there is much to be improved upon (like 2 INT's, 2 fumbles that luckily weren't lost, and a short missed field goal among other things), but I'm sure there will be fixes made.  Dealing well with adversity has always been a pillar of BU's football program.  Congrats to SJU on a good opener.

Did Russell Gliadon surpass the total PAT's and FG's from last season this afternoon?

Russell could be a major cog in the wheel for the Johnnies 2007 play-off run

Great article, as all have been on the site.  One question, did Russell play last year?  I see he is listed as a junior.

Interesting column on the Cobbers-MSUM game. The Dragons could have nearly run out the clock, but elected to pass three times with less than two minutes to go and Concordia with no timeouts. Two incompletions and a sack later, Concordia had life. And the MSUM coach was not happy about it.

Yes, Russell did play last year as part of the ongoing auditions. Russell settled in later in the season. He was a soccer player as a Freshman, I am told. I have never met or spoken to him personally, I just like what I see from the stands.

My opinion is that in high school and small college football there are a lot of points left on the field because there is not a kicking game. The dynamic of the long snapper, holder and kicker is a unique one. Also, if practice time for blocking assignments is not given importance there can  be many unnecessary blocks given up in the place kicking or punting game.

Those zany neighbors to the east.  The WIAC didn't play last weekend did they?
