Dealing well with adversity has always been a pillar of BU's football program.

Great game all around for the Johnnies. I knew it was going to be a long day for the Marietta boy's after the first "supposed" roughing the kicker penalty.  ::)The D came back out and went 3 and out. I think they ended up punting from deeper than they had originally. (someone correct me on this if I am wrong). Also watching Koefed scramble and make the throws he did. WOW!!!  :oWhen he did that 2 yrs ago I would just close my eyes and hope he threw it out of bounds. Johnnie running game needs a little touchin' up, but I think that will come as the O line gel's and the backs get more reps.  Over all great opener. By the way, was John up in the box today? I didn't see him on the sidelines.

Yea Ritz, I think using the word Pillar was a bit much.... ::)

Looks like the old making the other team hold up signs saying they suck a la SJU vs UST 2002  has been revived at a high school near Columbus, Ohio.

Thank God our planners only got free beer and not suspended from future athletic events! You'd think anyone with balls enough to pull that off would have to be huge supporters of the school's athletics (big athletic supporters) and the school would want those kind of fans at the games!

Looks like the old day's of school pranks are over. Someone might have been "offended" so we won't put up with this type of shinanigans(sp). What a crock of SSSS.  And just for the record, the Tommies DO Suck!!!!!

Ritzy,

If you are paying $100 for a keyboard the Little Falls schools must have a damn good pay scale.

I'll sell you one for $75.   ::)

Before we carve the gravestone for the '07 Royals' MIAC and playoff campaign, let's remember that last year's team lost a real head-scratcher to Carleton before playing some wonderful football down the stretch.  Obviously there is much to be improved upon (like 2 INT's, 2 fumbles that luckily weren't lost, and a short missed field goal among other things), but I'm sure there will be fixes made.  Dealing well with adversity has always been a pillar of BU's football program.  Congrats to SJU on a good opener.

I haven't checked the record books, but it seems like  Bethel has one of these games every year.

I am still expecting the SJU/BU game to be a battle royal.

For those expecting Stiftungsfestivities and game photos, my apologies.  I left my camera battery in the charger at home.  Duh.  My middle name ain't Old for no reason. :'(

That's a great story KR!

It's funny how people like to make stuff up to sound cool (i.e. the officer probably experienced one instance of cheapness (which I'm not excusing) and now it's "When we played them in 2004, I got hit and grabbed in the balls so much I thought I was a Backstreet Boy at an all-girls school.")

Very well could be the case, I just thought it was funny that in his playing career he played how many games against how many teams and he remembered Bethel for their cheap shots.

I am sure he exaggerated the story and all, I just found it funny.

CC Backer

Cobbers get a big win at home on Saturday, and although they got a bit of a gift from the Dragons, they looked much improved in certain areas over last year's squad. However a win is a win and when it's in a big rivalry game you'll take'em anyway you get'em.  CC played very well on both sides of the ball in the first half.  The offense was able to move the ball and the defense looked very strong.  MSUM came out firing in the second half and moved the ball effectively.
The Cobbers showed a much more balanced offensive attack but still relied on the run (71 carries for 319 yards, 4 TDs).  However the passing game was in much better shape than last season (12 -28 for 169 yards, 2 TDs) in fact they already have one more passing TD than all of last season.
Defensively the Cobbs still have some problems defending the pass as MSUM threw for 347 yards.  But they looked more athletic and have more speed than last year so I think they will be able to fix this problem as the season continues.
It was a fun game to watch and almost erases the memory of the last second loss to SJU in '05.  I look for the Cobbers to be more competitive than most people think this year and I believe they have the potential to surprise a lot of people.  Overall, it was a fun opening weekend and hopefully great start to a competitive and exciting MIAC Football Season!!

CC Backer:  Who starts at QB next week for the Cobbers?  Looks like Jesse Nelson had a good day until his leg cramped up.

That's not a bad NAIA team out in Dickie that CC gets next. Most years they spend some time in top 25 and at least  sniff the playoffs. Might be down a bit this year, though.
