Wow, this board is dead today!

All the young Cobbers either have class or nap time......Monday Night Football at Mick's ;D

Couldn't find time to post this morning, too busy explaining to M&G exactly what I do at work.  Yes, new coordinators in the cobber offense actually have some aggressive play calling, unlike bobby nick in the past 41 years!  It definately worked, just the D needs to continue to play tough.

This might get the board going!

The guy is a Cobber grad making it very big in Nashville.  Has signed contracts with Broadway and HBO.

I never thought I'd see Carleton ahead of Mt. Union in anything like this: Shange Henfling ahead of Greg Micheli in passer rating, leading the country. love it.

1 Shane Henfling, Carleton Jr. QB   297.0
2 Greg Micheli, Mount Union Jr. QB  234.0

Cobbers, what's with this passing game that Horan has been using?  That's not the Cobber football that we're used to.

Is he just utilizing the talents of the players he has this year, or do you think this is a shift in Horan's philosophy?

Duffman, I have to admit I was more than a little surprised to see the Cobbs relying on the pass to move the ball, definitley not the Cobber football that I am used to either. I think that the reason is a combination of things, some good and some bad.

The good: I think that the new blood in the OC spot has brought some different ideas of ways to attack defenses which can only be good. Also I think that Nelson is more comfortable this year at what he is doing, although he still has strides to make, which is expected.

The bad: The Cobbs couldn't run the ball effectively vs the Royals and were forced to pass in order to move the ball. Also it seemed like we almost threw too much, especially in the 2nd half. A lot of passes on 2nd and 5-7 fell incomplete, and then it is almost a guarantee to pass on 3rd down. Which is a much harder conversion to make than 3rd and 2 or 3. Having said that, the co-OCs have forgotten more about football than I will ever know and are incredibly sharp game planners and adjusters, so I have confidence in whatever they want to do, I was just a little worried with our inability to run the ball last saturday.
RB George Rogers, about the upcoming season:
"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."

Henfling is quite an athlete.  He definitely benefited from a summer of working out and doing drills with now injured team member.  However, those #s will come back down to earth after a few MIAC contests.  For a quarterback not expected to even be the starter by anyone until a day before the first game, he is doing Very well.  Looking forward to the Bethel game saturday.  I don't think Carleton can win 2 years in a row.  Lineman option anyone?

I remember golfing against a kid at State in high school that must have read your chapter 2.    Classic!

At the same time I must have been studying chapter 15.

Duff,

Concordia using the forward pass has worked during prior games with SJU.  Back in 1996 the following was the stat line for Ethan Pole during a shoot-out with Kurt Ramler (I also included his season stats...as you can see this was a short lived strategy)

26-40      334yrds    3TDs
101-187  1451yrds  13TDs

This was one of the best games I remember seeing...a 39-34 battle to the end.

Man, what a surprise that a Cobber is making it big in Nashville! Where else would a Cobber make it big in music? Hollywood? No. New York? No. Paris Hilton Square? No.
New Ulm? No.

skunks_sidekick

Chris....you forgot a few....

....How to "sell" the three foot gimme.....
....The proper explanation for "winter rules" when it's July and 90 out....
....How to properly use the new/old cooler bags to perfection......
