I'm sure the reception will be a bit nicer for the C-M crowd at the tailgate ....

Yeah, especially since they're bringing the ammo!

Johnnie- Great corn facts. But what I want to know is, no matter how much you chew your corn when you eat it, why do all of the kernels appear to be whole the next morning, if you know what I mean? ???

Perhaps some of the more senior veteran posters on the board will recall a previous Cobber-SJU tilt, this one basketball back in the venerable Rat Hall. They did the spotlight introductions back then and when the Cobbers took the floor, they were showered (pelted?) with hundreds of cobs as soon as they hit the spotlight. The Rat Pack had distributed bags of them throughout the gym.

Repete, were you there for that?  That was in my Dad's era!

I missed that by a few years.

Maybe we could reenact this weekend.  ::)

That group was crazy back then. By the time I got there no throwing things, but plenty of abuse.

I was before that time - pretty wild but no throwing things as I recall - my whole class involved led by the original "Rat" Berres.  :P

Ha, I've met Original Rat Frank? Berres a few times at games.  He is classic.  Wears that Original Rat Cowboy hat and still leads the cheers in the stands.  Personifies the Johnnie spirit if you ask me!!

repete: Can you reference an exact year when that happened?  I actually wish the Johnnie bballers still played in old Rat Hall instead of the now sterile, squeaky clean, bright lighted Sexton Arena.  Would be like playin' in The Cage at Macalester or to a lesser extent O'Shaugnessy Arena at UST where the crowds are right on top of the players/game.

Just an FYI: I believe The White Silly was predicting a HUGE Auggie tech win last week.  Go forward and infer from that what you will...

Shockingly, White Silly is just posting to get a reaction and most people know that.

I'd think that you would understand the concept of posting just to get a reaction.

I think it was 1973 or 1974.  From what my dad tells me, it was one of the last (if not the last) games played in the old gym before the Paelestra opened.

I think the Paelestra opened in 1973, since that would have been the start of my junior year. Always liked the indoor track that used to be there. Actually set my all-time best in the mile on it. :)

Look forward to meeting you too on the 27th of October in Collegeville... :-*  :-*

The old gym isn't still standing on campus, is it? I love to look through those places, see what schools have converted them into, if anything, etc.

Cool -- what's it called? I'll find it on the campus map and do a self-guided thing sometime.

I'm assuming it's not actually called Rat Hall. :)

Check my updated response.  I put in a link for you.  And it's called the Old Gym or Guild Hall, but it is frequently called Rat Hall, as well.
