Nope, I'm not suggesting anything. I'm sure similar injuries have occurred across the conference — albeit not to the "big" names, perhaps — and none of them seem to come back for more. I know I had a chance to but decided against it despite being an all-conf player as a junior. Just seems a little ironic that the best team in the league would be the one taking full advantage of the red-shirting ability.

Papa Wonka told you to get your lazy a$$ out of the house and get a job. :'(  ;D

If you don't like the rule, write the NCAA a letter.

BTW, it happens at other schools in the MIAC.  Even at schools that start the football
season 0-3.  Probably 0-5 heading into a showdown with Augsburg.  ::)

Papa Wonka made me pay rent to stay at home for the summer following graduation, which makes me think I would have been better off pulling a Keating :-\
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

The koolaid flavor du jour tomorrow will be Margarita.

The corn boiler is ready to boil. We may need more corn, if anybody wants to swing by and pick up a dozen or 2. Looks like we'll have lots of Cobbers there to show us how to shuck. 8)

The 5th year route is the way to go.  Why get a job when your going to do it for the rest of your life to pay off college anyway.  Plus, most people don't really get a chance to play football after college and if it is something you want to have as a major part of your college experience and you were forced to miss a season due to a freak injury, why not take a term off and come back for another season.  It worked out well for me, I finished classes around Thanksgiving my 5th year and had a job by the beginning of Febuary (after being in Mexico for most of Dec), which wasn't too far behind classmates of mine that graduated the previous spring.  Half a year of time for another season of football was well worth it, but I guess it depends on what's important to you.

Cobber SID Jim Cella was kind enough to pen a terriffic piece for www.johnniefootball.com.  It's pretty awesome.

I'll say it's awesome.

Jim must have attended a great school to learn to write like that. ;D

I'll second that.   The guy does know who how to write.  (Let's hope his last sentence was more fiction than fact)

To all the Cobbers, have a safe trip to the game.  Wish I were there, but I do know the corn will be the best (counting on you, cobbernation, to come through)

With the emergence of St. Olaf as a solid team and no clear dominating force I look for Concordia, St. John's, St. Olaf and Bethel to battle it out. The others have shown no life and only marginal ability to knock off a good team.

Hey Gary, remember when Gustavus beat Concordia last year, Concordia finished below .500 overall/conference league, GAC finished better than you overall/conference and you're about to start 0-2 in the league? Besides those very minor issues, I guess you make a great point.

Has everyone forgotten that Carleton beat Bethel last year?

I noticed you didn't post any videos of the St. Olaf losing to Bethel last year.  Are you actually hiding behind the hot Carls?

CC makes an excellent point. The rule was designed to allow the player to get 4 years eligibility. Without this rule, CC would not have had his MIAC record season. The ability for him to compete, within the guidelines of the rule, gave him this opportunity. The rule and the record enhanced his college experience. The rule, by allowing CC another season on the field, was also a positive for the Carleton football program as a whole.

I also personally know 2 Tommies, a LB & an OT, who used this rule within the past 5 seasons. They did nothing wrong (except going to UST ;)) and used the rule as it was designed.....to reclaim a season lost to medical hardship.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Wait, you mean they do this at Carleton and St. Thomas, too?  Maybe we only hear about St. John's doing it because everyone's heard of Blake Elliott and Ryan Keating.

I think CCKnight did a great job of showing the positive side of the rule (I mean, for those of you who didn't think the Johnnies beating Mount Union in 2003 was positive enough...).  The only part of his post that seemed out of place was a Carleton grad finding a job.  (Damn you--if you went to Augsburg or St. Thomas that joke would have made sense.)

Now that we've heard the annual multi-year harangue it's probably time for Bluenote's annual Crown tirade. Where are you Blue?  :'(

Dear Johnnie, (Karl, Tommy, Olie or whoever) I am here at work busting my tail so you can do normal things really well.  Your mother and I are not investing $13k a semester for you to take one off just to sing in the choir for another Christmas.  Instead how about graduating early?  Your mom and I can take a trip to Alaska, I here they have cold ice cream up there.

I love MIAC football as much as anyone, but D3 activities = very few professionals.
