You got that mixedup stanbob in the Nebraska game.  Keller passed for 438 yards for Nebraska.   Davis from Ball State had 422 passing.  Ball State had Lewis run for 122 and Lucky ran for 102 for Nebraska.  41-40 Nebraska.

Speaking of cornhollers.  AJ knows st johns must have been intimidated by the jacked up ears of corn that they were playing today but a nice win nontheless!!

and AJ hates nebraska....

Thanks, I knew that couldn't be right.

It was a beautiful day in Collegeville today-- good to see the Stiftungsfestivities crew in full force, and the box score said about 10k on hand to watch it.

While it may have felt close on radio, it was not close in person-- Concordia just did not have the guns to keep up, and defensively looked downright confused at times as to what SJU was going to do.  I don't typically give a lot of compliments to these two, but Jimmy G. called a good game, and Kofoed looked very solid today.  It is a solid Concordia squad, but they did not have a good day today, and SJU played well, which led to the score being so lopsided.

Here's the statline difference in the game:
Passing              Att-Cmp-Int Yds TD Long Sack
-------------------------------------------------
Jesse Nelson           12-3-3     31  0   20    2  (3 fumbles, 2 lost)
Alex Kofoed            32-26-0   303  4   33    0

I know Concordia is typically an option team, but the word out of Moorhead this year is that they had discovered the spread.  But that was not pretty.  Nelson had 2 completions on a drive starting at about 2:30 left in the 3rd quarter- meaning he had ONE completion (for 20 yards- 1 for 7) in the entire first half, and two interceptions in the first half.  He was very good on the option early, however, as he could really get a wide pitch going-- but, once SJU starting shooting the outside, forcing the pitch early and allowing SJU to stretch the runner out, the option game was slowed and the Cobbers were unable to answer.

Good day to be a Johnnie

Yeah, the Cobber passing game was GREATLY exaggerated.  The game was a Johnnie romp.  This team is giving off that "special vibe" which makes the UW-RF game that much more confusing.

Met a lot of great Cobbers today--the corn was tasty.  And smedindy.

First and foremost, thank you to Johnnie Red, Finsleft, TC, and everyone else for the great hospitality at the Stiftungfestivities. It was great to meet you guys, and the burgers, and especially the kool-aid ;) lived up to the billing.

On to the game...  not sure where to start.

St. John's has a very nice squad this season. Alex Kofoed plays exactly like a 4 year starter should. And although the big names (Elliott, Gearman, etc) are not there he still has plenty of capable weapons around him. Johnnie D looked good, Gunderson stood out in the middle, as well as #45, Rose?? Only a sophmore, wow, he is gonna be a pain in the butt for the rest of the league for a long time.

The Cobbs,  I was really disapointed. Not only in the outcome and the level of play, but I felt that there was not the level of intensity, effort, and pride that are the backbone of Cobber Football. This team has a lot of talent, maybe not MIAC title talent, but definitely a lot more talent than what was shown today, and at some point the players have to find it inside to bust their ass on every play no matter what the score or situation. Not for personal pride or satisfaction, but for something even greater, the Pride in the Jersey, the Cobber Name, and everyone who has busted their asses before them. Win, lose, or draw the rest of the season I will be hoping that the leaders on this team find a way to lead their teammates and get this done.

Congrats SJU, you were the better team today. As usual the setting was beautiful and the company was friendly (minus my minor run-in with the rent a cop). Every year I played at Concordia I looked forward to this game because of the level the game was always played at, and because of way the teams respected each other, and I look forward to many more of those games to follow in years to come.

Wow that was long.   BTW: opening kickoff in the Gophs game = Purdue runs it back for a TD... Tim Brewster era not living up to the hype.

M&G hit the nail directly on the head.

My confusion came with why J. Nelson was left in the game late into the 3rd and through the 4th quarter. After 5 TO's himself it has to be time to hand the reins over to either of the backups.....somebody that could use the experience the next time we take a trip to Collegeville or any other fantastic atmosphere or big game.

After my first St. John's football game experience I now understand why schools like St. Cloud State and other metro MIAC schools can't consistantly out recruit the Johnnies.  It was a great atmoshphere filled with very passionate fans.

Well, I had a great time in Collegeville today. The tailgate was a blast and the game turned out a whole lot more favorably than I thought. I usually leave SJU-CC tilts without my fingernails intact. Today that was not the case, thankfully. I didn't get to meet many Cobbers, but I did enjoy a piece of corn. Thanks guys!
Nice day, huh?

Well it was a long day, the maroon hopeful gave it what we had to give and thats it.  A special thanks to the great guys in TK's flat as well as the Johnnie parents that were equally great.  Cheers to a great Friday night in St. Joe's (Summer Shandy on tap at the La was a great suprise) and Gary's pizza with a hop on the link back to SJU, all very nice.  Congrats to the relentless efforts of your boys today, that is SJU football.  CC is not down but not out, our boys have a lot of class and will pick up and get back to it again against the Auggies next week.

I am usually quite  cautious but SJU rarely does this to a program  such as Concordia.  It is usually quite a battle.  Not trying to get my hopes up but this  could be a very special Johnnie team.  They need to keep their heads on straight and not think that they are anything special! It's a long road but let's keep rolling on down it!

Fight YOU JOHNNIES!

Wow were a lot of posts since last night.  I am not sure where to start.

First off there are a lot of reasons to go back for the 5th year that are not related solely to athletics.  I had a friend that returned to Olaf for 2 more years so he could finish an extra major.  St. Olaf was the best place to earn that major.  If you get to play a sport then that is a bonus.

Music is very important at some schools.  The music program at St. Olaf features some talented students that have been recognized internationally for the accomplishments.  I used to belittle the music groups, but I learned from Gene Stallings the importance of respecting all students accomplishments.  Gene told a story about how he challenged someone to walk across the balance bean, the person looked at him like he was crazy.  It was clear this person had no business being near gymnastics.  Gene's point was all student accomplishments deserve credit, and you do yourself a disservice by not acknowledging those accomplishments.  Don't complain that about a student taking that extra semester or year that they lost to participate in an activity that they lost.

I realize Bethel beat St. Olaf last year.  I was at the game.  I think the Oles just did not want to win the game.  It was horrible, but Bethel eventually put it together.  I think the video of some of the plays would make me puke, because I saw better play in Junior High.

Most of the high schools in Texas play on Friday nights.  Due to scheduling conflicts at various stadiums some teams play on Thursday or Saturday.  I lived that life for years, and I can tell you that is a different world down there.  Catholic schools, with the exception of high schools, generally play on Sunday.

St. Olaf looked bad for St. Olaf today.  The Oles dominated early, and then it almost looked like apathy entered in the minds of the team.
