What's the story next week at Carleton?  Pre-game festivities???

I'm sure Frank and Mongo (if the lady allows it) will be joining me in NFLD for the GAC/STO game next week. Perhaps we should plan a joint venture for the traveling Stiffyfest? I know at least one Ole I could probably get to join us. Perhaps we could even drag Olaf rapper "Disasta" out of the woodworks for some live pregame entertainment.

Clearly, the SJU fans would all be welcome to make the trek west at halftime of your game to watch what should be a shootout; GAC allowed 285 through the air today to HAMLINE while Olaf allowed 421 to AUGSBURG. However, the teams enter next week as the top two offenses in the conference as well, both averaging well over 500 yards per game on the strength of two stud quarterbacks.

Stolp is averaging 330 yards a game and has yet to throw a pick (knock on Mongo's head). Mitch Anderson is also finding lots of running room, leading the league at around 130/per.

Olaf's Matt Penz, from THE Mayo High School, is also averaging around 300/per without throwing an INT, while seeing very limited duty in most second halves.

Wonka is willing to go out on a limb and say whichever quarterback cracks under the pressure of their first big game of the year will lose the game. Historically, this points to Stolp...but he's certainly shown great signs of putting those memories to rest through four great games. That puts Penz in the crosshairs and my people have said he's looked quite shaky at times this fall.

Now if we can just keep Isaac Perry from biting hard on EVERY playaction he sees, I'd be quite confident in our ability to upset the Oles at their house...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Carleton has a great place for tailgating behind the big fieldhouse.  It is on top of hill by some of the intramural fields.

It is St. Olaf's Homecoming on Saturday, so the festivities and parking will be a mess.  I used to see a lot of SJU fans visiting the cafeteria at Olaf before going to Carleton for games so this their fair warning that you might not get to the game on time.

Penz threw an INT against Augsburg, but he also threw for 5TDs and over 400 yards.  He has really started to come around.  It just takes him a little time to get comfortable in the offense.  He improves every game he plays throughout the season.

Dear Johnnie, (Karl, Tommy, Olie or whoever) I am here at work busting my tail so you can do normal things really well.  Your mother and I are not investing $13k a semester for you to take one off just to sing in the choir for another Christmas.  Instead how about graduating early?  Your mom and I can take a trip to Alaska, I here they have cold ice cream up there.

I love MIAC football as much as anyone, but D3 activities = very few professionals.

I went to college the same number of terms that everyone else at my school did (just took one off in order to take it in the fall instead), so it did not cost any extra money.  I have the same amount of student loans that I would have if I were to have not taken a medical redshirt.  But that being said it's not for everybody, I paid for most of my education myself through financial aid / student loans, so I didn't have the dilemma of having someone else footing the bill.

I stand corrected, if you spent no extra $ for school and only a months (DEC) worth of $ in Mexico it would at least be a good time.  I consulted my kids (3 miac) and wife (uwec) reguarding this matter and it was not pretty.  100% said 5th year was a no brainer, the only difference was their 5th year would come out of the family larder not student loans.  Lucky me!  The music comment met nothing, it could have been the student newspaper or physics club.  As for the 1/2 full comment, it appears the Johnnies glass is going to be always full this season.

Rugman

Thanks to the Stiftungfestivities folkes for a great spread and quite a turnout.  My wife and I were first time participants and hope to make this a regular part of our Johnnie Football experience.  Previous Johnny low: getting blown out at Mount Union in the rain, Previous Johnnie high: the turning point in Salem 03.  Hoped for new Johnnie high: mixing at the Stiftungfestivities in Salem 07.

As an SJU alum, I've been reading the postings here for a long time.  Happy to join Johnnie Nation on D3Football, which is probably slightly larger than all of Gopher Nation at this point.

My first impressions of the discussions and MIAC this year:
1.  Very predictable participation from non-SJU posters so far (which is great).  How many will still be posting in November?
2.  Keating won a national championship - enough said.
3.  The upper echelon (BU, Stolaf, CC, SJU) of the MIAC has more company than in the past, despite the SJU/CC game yesterday.
3(b).  St. Thomas is not close to be included in the group above, as evidenced by the fact that  I have never looked forward to the Hamline/UST game until this year.

Great photo spread. Those shots of the endzone stands are incredible.

I thought those endzone shots were pretty good too.   ;)

My favorite is the one with the ball going through the uprights.

After reading the SJU write up and the mention of the big running back, Kellen Blaser from Austin,
I am wondering if he is related to Jen Blaser, a basketball standout at CSB from a few years ago.

Can anyone answer that question?

Thanks!

I was looking these pictures and thought it looked like they added even more bleacher at the North end of the field.  Does anybody know if they added another small section on each side of the large endzone section?

What the heck was the color of Fins shirt yesterday?  I will spring for a new red one if you committ to using color safe detergent ;D

Great game by the Johnnies.
