ROR - So Gags considers himself the arbiter of justice then, huh? Seems a rather odd concept, considering he's had beef with nearly everyone in the league over his years. No wonder the old MIAC guy who retired a few years back didn't like him — though that does seem to be the pretty standard reaction from anyone I've met from that era.

Or were you simply trying to reinforce the idea that he's had no shame in running it up for decades now? Makes me wonder how much Gags would have flipped if Kehres would have cocked off in '93.

Which brings me to a classic Schoenebeck line...win with class, lose with more.

Thus using Deductive (or Inductive) Reasoning is why all the GAC faithful have so much class, and all the Johnnie Faithful are member of the Classless A$$hole Club

BINGO!!!
Great post Ritzy. You just took the words right outta my mouth.

Under Coach S, GAC has had so many opportunities to show just how classy they are. Impressive!

Wonka-I get it-so just tell all of us, at what point does the second string QB come in a just take a knee for the rest of the game? 35-0 in the third quarter? Perhaps the MAIC will consider a slaughter rule-if SJU is up by 30 points to start the second half, the clock will run and the second team must take a knee.
Wonka-did your team ever run up the score in basketball-is that how you know so much. ;D

Now Zip, we all know that basketball is a whole different sport and that no lead is ever safe, etc. etc. ;)

I agree with a lot of the posters on the game score scenarios.  When you have perennial teams like St. Johns, and the others from around the East, North, and South, you are bound to have good talent deep into the roster.  As a fan and parent, nothing better than seeing your son getting playing time. Most of D3 rosters are full of kids that were very successfull as high school players.  Some get a chance to start, some do not at the next level, and I would stack a lot of D3 teams against a lot of D2 and 1AA schools. That said, when these kids get a chance to touch the ball or the grass, when their chances are few, I say go for it.  Their parents pay a lot of money to send these kids to these schools, and I would imagine it is pretty hard to sit weekend in and weekend out, and rarely see their son play.  The point is, these kids play to score. I know Bethel has been in a position  a couple of times this season against Simpson, and Carleton, that a lot of starters were pulled late third quarter, and the other Seniors and others had a chance to play.  They did not add to the score, merely protected it.  But they had the chance to score if they could.  I am not sure how many points have been scored by the St. Johns second and third string, but I would hope as many as they could.  These kids deserve to play, and score, and I know the parents will never forget it.  One final comment, one poster asked what has happened to RJ Jackson.  He was such a stud last year.  RJ if given the chance, could still put up huge numbers, I just dont think the O line is quite as good as last years team.  I am not going "Gundy" here, especially after my origional post, but for a kid that spent the last 8 years in Roseville, playing high school and college football, I suppose he has had his share of press, and I wish this talented Senior  good luck the rest of the way.

Maybe the MIAC should look at following the lead set by Connecticut HS football-- if you win by "too large of a margin" (I believe they use 35 pts), there are sanctions for the next game-- I think the coach is suspended. We'd probably have half the coaches on vacation some weeks.  :)

(and yes, that was said sarcastically)

When I think of teams that I hate...Tampa Bay Lightning, Edmonton Oilers, Bethel... it really comes down to a begrudging respect. If I didn't think they were competition, I wouldn't even care. This is probably why no one hates the Columbus Blue Jackets. If I wore one of their shirts in a hockey town, people would be more likely to laugh at me than threaten to beat me up. ;D

Plenty of practice then for you on the second half of that sage advice.  Convenient.  Shame it appears that you still need more since you can't stop moaning like a gut-shot panther about getting stomped.

There are two ways to react to getting stomped.  One is to improve your program (I remember looking forward to Bethel like we anticipate the Auggies today).  The other is to spend every other post wailing like Chris Crocker: "Leave our teams alone now!  I mean it!  They have worked so hard and are so beautiful!"  Put on some eye shadow, frizz your hair and post the screed on youtube.  You just might become an Internet sensation.

I think we all respect Bethel for holding it down against Buena Vista.

Connecticut has a 50-point rule, which seems fair for high school. At least when it gets to 50 play with a running clock.

In college, I think you need to let the players play the game. If you leave your #1 offense or defense in past the first series of the 3rd quarter up 49-7 then you are asking for trouble in more ways than one. But let the second and third team play, within reason, and if it gets to a 56 point margin or more you may want to scale back the offense so you don't incur the wrath of TMQ. Or if the other team has a small roster then you may want to just totally cool it early on after the lead is safe. No sense getting anyone hurt, but everyone should be able to play.

If D3 had the 50 point rule, the Mount Union/Averett game would have ended in the 1st quarter.
Anybody want to talk about games that HAVEN'T been played yet?  ??? ???

the OAC's had a lot of discussion about running up the score with the way Mount has been destroying people. And the consensuse is they haven't been running it up because if they had, they would have a few games over 100 already. Last game they apparently had a backup running back who broke free on dives up the middle, and then veered out of bounds at the 1-yard-line each time so he wouldn't score. Now that might be a bit extreme.

What's not to love?  11 years ago, that would have been my glory days playing fullback for LP-GE seventh grade, there were times when the Thunder used to win a couple games.

I don't have many problems with a lopsided game unless you happen to be talking about Texas Tech.  Mike Leach (of the blood sucking variety) is known for leaving the starters in the whole game and continue to take deep shots when he is up by 50 in the 4th quarter.  When I was in high school we would have a coach in the press box go to the other team's box and discuss a plan to keep the game under control.  Usually we agreed to run our base offense with the reserves, and they agreed to keep the deep shots to a minimum.  The opposing team was also not supposed to get within a certain number of points.

I was at one game where a player from my school was injured severely.  Our opponent knew that we had won the game, and to prevent more injuries he conceded the final quarter of the game.  We were up 48-7.

I totally agree Ole.

Maybe it was that "never give up attitude" that allowed them to come back from a 35-7 halftime deficit versus the Gophers last year in the Insight Bowl last year...on the other hand, maybe that had more to do with the Gopher defense...   ;)
