I was wondering what the last major upset (i.e. an undefeated title contender losing to one of the weaker teams of that year) in the MIAC was?
I like to picture my Jesus singing lead vocals for Lynard Skynard with like a band of Angels behind him, and I'm in the front row HAMMERED drunk!!!

How about Carleton beating Bethel last year ??? ??? ???

Ahh yes, I forgot about that.  How about before that?  I'm just curious because it doesn't seem to happen very often.

Anybody want to talk about games that HAVEN'T been played yet?  ??? ???

I tried that and got yelled at by Mr. President. So I went a different route and found plenty of takers :-*

Apparently the only time SJU wants to talk about non-SJU things is when they can rip other teams in the league for not being good enough competition.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

So Wonka are you planning on going to the game at the seminary St. Olaf campus this wknd?

This is truly a Red Letter Day. We have finally found somebody that is afraid of getting yelled at by TDT. :o

Wouldn't miss it.

Frank and I may even brave the SJU storm for a few burgers during pregame, if he can drag himself out of bed in time to drive over after celebrating the start of the weekend. Which begs the question...if you don't have a job, how is celebrating Friday any different than celebrating on, say, Tuesday? Eh, Frank?

You gonna be there, shake? I'll be watching with Sviggum, who has been informed by his fiance that he HAS TO cheer for the Oles due to a relative on the team, and some other Gusties.

wahoo - You gonna be around, I assume? Care to join the tailgating fun at Carleton before the game?

57J - Afraid I am not, but TDT seems to be right this time. No one wants to talk Gustie/Ole since SJU isn't involved, despite it being the clear game of the week.

Well the Johnnies beat the Gusties 21-7 in 1953 to end a 21 game winning streak by the Gusties.  :D
I believe that was John's first home victory at Collegeville.

TDT - Remember how you laughed when I said the GAC/STO game would be one to watch around the nation? Well, both teams are receiving votes in the latest poll and our good friend OAS listed it TWICE in his "Around the West" piece as a Game to Watch.

How you like them apples?

(Yes, I'm getting all of this out of my system now in anticipation of having very little to post after the next 3 weeks.)

Sorry -- that's my fault. I rearranged some things and apparently hit Ctrl-C instead of Ctrl-X.

Ahh yes I will be there, and may even try to attend my first stiftungfest.  My attendance there, however is greatly dependant on how seriously I celebrate the start of the weekend.  Celebrating the start of the weekend while fun, sure pails in comparison to celebrating the end of class on _______(fill in the blank random weekday) in college.

I imagine there were a couple more between 1953 and 2006, but it doesn't really matter anyway.  So does Gag's call you 57 since you call him John ;)

So, what you're saying is that next week we can get back to more Johnnie talk and not be bothered by talk of the Gustie offensive juggernaut run to perfection by the one QB in the history of the game that you despise more than the QB that led the Johnnies to the Stagg Bowl Title in 2003?  :o
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Just being able to hear "Gustie offensive juggernaut" without it being entirely in jest or people laughing is comforting to me.

In regards to this weekend I look forward to some Ole receivers coming across the middle only to meet #4, who usually makes people go down...hard.  And to see how the "juggernaut" executes against a little stiffer competition.

Despise is a strong word. I despise his place kicking, but that's no longer an issue after the kicking debacle at UST.

His quarterbacking skills have fit Brownie's new offense perfectly, so far, in that he doesn't really have to read anything with Peyton flapping around on the sidelines to tell him what to do. His throws have still been somewhat erratic — a TD pass @UST went right through a Tommie defender's hands to fall into Arlt's lap, for example — but he's been getting rid of the ball on rhythm almost every play, as evidenced by just 8 sacks taken this year. Makes me wish Brownie would have gotten a chance to work his magic a couple 7 years earlier...but better late than never.

If the first time SJU people see GAC play is at homecoming, I'm sure Sunday and Monday will be filled with ridicule for the playcalling system, regardless of how well it works. If Carleton gets out of hand quickly this weekend, it might even be worth the drive over Saturday afternoon.

He's been John for over 80 years (almost 55 of them at SJU). I'm 57 only on PP.
