Silly--

My 7th graders are taking on the LP-GE gang tonight...  Any advice on surviving therirr onslaught??

Yes, go over right tackle.

....love that Thunder!

Developing.....  :P

What's not to love?  11 years ago, that would have been my glory days playing fullback for LP-GE seventh grade, there were times when the Thunder used to win a couple games.

If Carleton gets out of hand quickly this weekend, it might even be worth the drive over Saturday afternoon.

On second thought, leave your car at Carleton & walk to Olaf....parking will be a mess over there with homecoming  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Apparently the only time SJU wants to talk about non-SJU things is when they can rip other teams in the league for not being good enough competition.

Stop the moaning, already!  You are so busy making sure that  Rosie O'Donnell sized chip stays well balanced on your shoulder you don't even recognize when you do influence conversation positively.  And not only influence it positively, but in the direction you want it to go!  You whine so much it makes me want both teams to lose.

I love how tons of posters still include an 0-2 CC team who just got smoked, but not an undefeated Gustie squad in their lists.

That's a point worth considering.   I'm looking forward to seeing (via reading a box score, obviously) how the Gusties and Olies play next weekend.  Who woulda thunk that one day I would be (silently) cheering for Gustavus?  Just checking out the office window here to see if there are any pigs flying by...

And then, of course, TC continues the conversation in the next comment.  And he talks about the greater good of the MIAC!  By God, you would think we Johnnies never talked about any teams or games beside St. John's!

Which ever teams wins--and GAC looks a lot more likely now than they did a few weeks ago--better be damn sure they take care of their non-SJU business or else it will cost the MIAC their second playoff team.  That's the only reason I'm semi-pulling for STO next weekend, I think they have a better chance of beating CC and Bethel.

And your next comment?  An amazingly self-unaware defense, in light of your incessant ranting on SJU score lines, of GAC's big win.

Bloody Hell, Wally, pull your head in.

Wonka-I get it-so just tell all of us, at what point does the second string QB come in a just take a knee for the rest of the game? 35-0 in the third quarter? Perhaps the MAIC will consider a slaughter rule-if SJU is up by 30 points to start the second half, the clock will run and the second team must take a knee.
Wonka-did your team ever run up the score in basketball-is that how you know so much. ;D

I could be wrong but I don't think WW has replied to this accusation, maybe it's different when the a**kicking is on the other side?

Have you no nuance, stanbob?  It's not different, it's justified.  GAC have a documented history of being unable to run up scores, so when they finally do it's to be celebrated as bucking a trend.  Not reflexively condemned as the sign of evil in our times that an SJU score represents.  Nuance.  Jeez.

Basketball comments are obviously off-topic.  Duh.

Are the Gusties and Oles both healthy going into the game?

I'm 50/50 on heading to Northfield on Sat.  Depends a lot on the weather.

So you are saying the pot can call the kettle black, if the pot is in St Peter and the kettle is in Collegeville?

LPGE was a formidable opponent tonight, but we still eeked out a 4 touchdown win.  I even went for two after the last touchdown!!!  (Oh wait, we always go for two in 7th grade FB!) ;D

You really want me to answer that? Fine. Enjoy.

We went to the national tourney all four years I played and only scored 100+ points once, at Hamline in a game they displayed no desire to run back on defense or get a rebound. Our starters were pulled and icing less than 2 minutes into the second half and I was one of the few to finish with a shooting percentage of less than 50%.

I'm sure PI remembers the game...it was embarrassing to watch and I think I remember him posting that we weren't even close to running it up. Our third string guys beat their starters 56-27 in the second half. Hamline finished that year 3-22 and that was the second to last game of the year, making it very possible its players had already mailed it in.

Here's the box if you want to doublecheck my facts.

http://gustavus.edu/athletics/mbb/archives/2001-02/mbbstats/HAM2.HTM

For what it's worth, Jerome "The Truth" Williams crossed me up the next year — making me fall over — in much closer games (Sidenote: I popped right back up and he didn't score).

A quick glance at box scores shows most of our wins being by roughly 10-20 points against the dregs of the conference. The biggest wins I remember are @Bethel (who finished 4th) my senior year when we won by like 30 and hit around 12 3s in the first half and when we went to Buena Vista my sophomore year and held the IIAC MVP to like 4 points in winning by 30 without our two starting posts, who played roughly 25 minutes combined due to fouls.

We had losses at a terrible Augsburg squad, at a bad Concordia team, at an extremely down UST team and at Mac during my days. Running it up really isn't common in MIAC basketball, as the "haves" are much closer to the "have nots" than in football. Besides, GAC typically schedules national tournament caliber teams for nonconference games and plays in high quality tournaments, so we don't exactly get the Crown Colleges to beat up on like some teams (that's Bethel's forte in hoops, FYI).

I'm sure that's much more than you wanted, but deal with it.

In closing, I'll leave you with a clip from TDT's childhood crush. If the rumors are correct, his walls are still plastered with this spandex clab beefcake.

I don't know about the Gusties but St. Olaf is a healthy squad. Chance of rain Sat. which is a bummer since it is our Homecoming weekend!
