A little slow today, I had been under the impression that the game of the century, aka GAC/STO was this weekend.  I hope I wasn't mistaken.

Maybe not much talk here, but there is national coverage elsewhere. In today's New York Times Crossword Puzzle, the winner of Saturday's game is predicted in the answer to the 7-Down clue.

Bennie, I am still grateful for the in-game updates of the Gusties game last season.

It was my pleasure! I enjoy going to any game where I get to sit with the folks that are so happy to be at a game played in Ory-gone ;) Enjoy Halo 3!

shakenbake35 and Wonka-
You know I am starting to get a little offended by the attitude that Johnnie fans have their red blinders on so tight that they can't see that there are other teams in the league. ::) Granted, my location limits the number of MIAC games, and Johnnie games for that matter, I get to attend, but I have supported every MIAC football team to make their way over the Rockies in the past 10 years! I cheered loudly enough at the Mac/Lewis and Clark game to have people ask me if I was a Mac grad. I throughly enjoyed sitting with and cheering for the Cobbers in there hard fought game against Linfield. And last year, I had nothing but nice things to say about the Gusties after watching them play Willamette (just ask Frank). I was even bracing myself to cheer for Bethel a couple of years ago when there was a chance they could be playing Linfield in the second round of the playoffs! :D I think we are all bias about our team...and we should be. The fact that there are as many Johnnie fans on this board as there are certainly influences the discussions, but if you want that to change, get more alumni from your institutions to join in and stop complaining about our team spirit/enthusiasm! ;D

First of all although the smack talk runs pretty deep on here sometimes, I personally think that everyone on here supports the MIAC and all the teams (except for me and Bethel, I just trully despise those who hide behind the bible but we've had that discussion) when it really comes down to it.  And I don't think Johnnie fans have "red blinders" on I just think that SJU's success over the years has gone to the heads of their fans who now think that they and their team are above everyone else.  And that elitist attitude is what I take exception too because at the end of the day it is still Division 3 football that has no long lasting effect on anything other than the friendships that were built as a result of it, and those friendships are no better or worse depending on how good your team was in college. :o

Now stepping off of my soap box.
Hang on there. It wasn't a Johnnie that tried comparing John to a Deity, pacifist or actor. The Johnnie faithful are justly proud of the fact that when you compare college football coaches, John is behind NO OTHER person in terms of victories. That doesn't guarantee a win on Saturday. I'm certainly glad that FAILURE hasn't gone to our heads.

The comparison, I thought, was obviously sarcasm.  My point is that Gags while obviously a phenomenal coach is not above or better than anyone other than in wins (which again is a great accomplishment but not something that puts him above a deity, pacifist, actor or the 8th string running back).  And I can't speak for any other programs but failure is certainly not something that is embraced nor gone to the heads of anyone at Gustavus (despite some recent short comings).
I like to picture my Jesus singing lead vocals for Lynard Skynard with like a band of Angels behind him, and I'm in the front row HAMMERED drunk!!!

I would like to comment on the quote on you signature: "I like to picture my Jesus singing lead vocals for Lynard Skynard with like a band of Angels behind him, and I'm in the front row HAMMERED drunk!!!"

Being as careful as possible in attempting to "speak" on his behalf: I cannot and will not judge your heart's intent on being at that concert, but THE Jesus (who is who he is no matter how you or I picture him) would rather you not be hammered (that I can say with certainty), but he would feel good about your cheering for him.

How's that for not hiding behind the bible?  ;)

Is that the definition of red blinders?

shakenbake35

No that means that Johnnie fans do care about the rest of the league (i.e. no "red blinders") but in my opinion have an elitist attitude.

But I thought that Jesus made water into wine to keep the party going?  ;D  I am totally kidding, and I just thought that quote from Talladega Nights was hilarious.

Willy Wonka

I have my fingers crossed that the Gusties win their next two games so Shake and I can tell the Johnnie faithful what we really think of them leading up to the homecoming game. In the meantime, can we please turn our attention to bashing the defense-less Oles or the Bible-thumping Royals? ;D

wahoo - How many times have you seen the Oles play this year? What's your take on this weekend?

Back to stupid work, wishing I were playing Halo or Madden with Frank while his mom cooked us dinner...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Sorry, I actually had no idea that was a movie quote.  Thanks for having a good sense of humor!

btw, Jesus DID turn water into wine to keep the party going (John 2: 1-11) !!

I see your point but to me red blinders are a part of your elitist attitude.

But who am I to talk considered the sun glasses I wear  8)

Unfortunately I haven't had an opportunity to add an elitist attitude to it   :-\

bennie

Elitist attitude? That's the Ivy League and SJU is obviously not Ivy League...we have winning sports programs! ;) :-*

Now stepping off of my soap box.

I know this discussion has been beat to death this last week but since I'm in the middle of a moderately slow day I will toss in my two cents (or non-sense to some of you  :))

I agree that many people at Bethel do that.  Recently a Bethel football player attacked me about an issue he was lying about and closed his e-mail with "and I will be praying for you."  I think this is the type of thing that has been discussed about actions on the football field.

The thing is I would have preferred he just called me an @sshole but instead he slapped a judging "high road, bull siht" comment on the end.

I'm not sure why this happens but for some people I guess it is easier to pinch someone's nuts under the cover of a pile and get up saying God loves them than to call them a jerk to their face.

That being said the problem with Bethel's reputation is the fallacy of generalization.  I don't think it is fair to say that Bethel as a whole hides behind the Bible but I understand why people would think that when their interactions with a few Bethel people are negative.

Hmmm, something makes me think I'm about to get hit from both sides of the board.... :)
