FROM THE LAND OF SKY BLUE WA-HAW-TERS, wa-haw-ters..........COMES THE BEER REFR_HEH_SHING.

Pat - you no longer have the jones for a Yeungling?

if my memory serves me right, wasn't there a beaver in the background keeping rhythm with his/her tail, as the Hamm's Bear was singing???

(or was I too busy watchin tv, and thinkin' about Harmon Killebrew wacking one ?)

Johnnie

And how old were you at the time?  Perhaps you were just thinking about the Beaver(since Leave it to Beaver reruns were going on at the time of course ;))

it was about 1965....i was 15 on the farm in SoDak....man, i'm sure there was a silly-looking beaver in that commercial with the Hamm's Bear......if not,  what animal's tail was it that was keeping rhythym?.....

I know it wasn't Leave it to Beaver.  Or the talking beaver in the Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe......I also know it was before my Pabst Blue Ribbon & Cold Spring beer stupor days

Willy- I wasn't really too concerned. I just didn't know how the 'gangsta' connotation was being used and didn't want negative comments about a generally good guy. And Deontae is a good corner, he is becoming more aggressive in his play (in and under control manner) every game and I'm sure he will bring it Saturday. I think it could be very exciting to see a match-up of Hutchins/Arlt if they are lined up against one another.

Thefreebird- No, I am not generalizing 'gangsta' as a negative name. But, and I don't think anyone would dispute it, gangsta can have a negative connotation (i.e. how it is usually used on the KQ92 morning show, especially regarding athletes). I'm sure Snoop and 50 are nice guys and they are definitely gangstas, I was just making sure the wrong connotation wasn't being used, thats all.

One more note: While there has been much dispute as to whether Olaf/GAC is a 'National' game, there should be little dispute as to the fact that it has the most potential to be the best game in the MIAC this week. Go Oles!

would you care to give me a positive image of the word "gangsta" in sports?  and no you can't use NBA referee's.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it down to Northfield.  Have a great time to all who will be going.

Fins - your description regarding drinking Hamms was very moving.  Well done!!

ROR- I think it would be great if you bought a dread lock hair piece and wore it to the SJU/OLE game.  I'll even chip in for one.

Go Johnnies!!

Go Johnnies!!!

I've been thinking about going with dread-locks.

My ol' man is bald, so he dread-locked his 'stache.  Called it his soup strainer, Dinty Moore strength.

Fins,

That description of open a can of Hamms.  Are you sure you didn't go to seminary some where?  That was almost as good a sermon as I have heard.  If not seminary then you must have run for office some where or should.  Words spoken like that you should be mayor some where.

Thanks Dutch. Actually you can read in my bio on johnniefootball.com about my brush with being a man of the cloth.

In response to WW's question a few pages back....

I have only been to 1 Ole game so far this year (fall weddings need to be banned). I have a good feeling for the team, seeing many of these guys play the last few years. This year I really do believe that the Oles have enough experience and talent that if they don't make too many mistakes, have a solid game plan, make at least one half time adjustment (which has been rare against SJU the last 2 years), and the players show up to the game that they can play with anyone. I can't wait for the game this Saturday. I think GAC has something to prove this year and they will bring their A game and I the Oles need to hunker down and show how good they can be. To be honest, the critical success factor to the whole game is getting pressure on Stolp early. If we don't get a pass rush and can't get pressure with a blitz here and there, I'm a little worried about our pass D. If you look at the last few years, the SJU games that we've been beat up in have because Kofoed can sit back there all day and dink and dunk and throw a 15 yard dig here and there and just walk it down the field. Pressure on the QB is a key in this league. D3 QB's can throw the ball, their WR can catch, but not many of them have shown an ability to sit in the pocket and make throws with heat in their face. That was a tangent, but anyway, I think the Oles of 2007 (due to their talent level and experience) are like the SJU teams every year. If they come and play up to their potential and their talent level, it doesn't matter who they play.

Good morning my little piss ants,

The latest and greatest finsleft masterpiece just made me spit water all over my laptop.  Fins this is perfection personified.  Nicely played sir!!!

The CSB/SJU campuses are now buzzing over recent events. At St. John's, the performance of the 4-0 football team is stirring up some kind of excitement. And at CSB, the latest new food outlet has the gals all a-twitter. The Gorecki (pronounced Goret-ski) Dining Hall, complete with pizza oven and Mongolian grill, is turning out food that would feed an army of Wayne Gretzkys (pronounced Goreckis) and the stampede of hungry hordes has drawn the attention of campus security. Thank you, Bennies, for taking some of the heat off of us.

BOL, this is terrific material.

Has anyone read Keith's Around the Nation rankings of the conferences? I thought it would engender some heated discussion. For example, one of the reasons the MIAC is rated as low as it is, is that they are 2 - 2 against the IIAC, which is rated lower, but both have excellent non-conference records. I realize this is more of an art than a science, but when you look at non-conference records, the arguments that follow - don't seem to follow.

Yea it'd be nice if USTD (Central and Loras) and Bethel (Buena Vista and ALL past playoff games :o) would help us out once in a while...
