Stolp? Matt Penz puts up basically the same numbers. He is also on the bench by halfway through the 3rd quarter. I am not saying Stolp is bad. I am just saying Matt Penz is better. Stop talking about Defense. This game will be all about offense, and GAC can't run against the Oles. This entire game is on stolp's shoulders. Cya saturday.

Touchdown Tommy

Thanks for joining us James.  You are right, neither team can play a lick of Deee-Fense.  Shootout in Northfield!!!

Does that have a lot to do with their defense  ???

TDT,

Have you ever read Touchdown for Tommy?  It was one of my favorite books back in the day.

Im not from Osakis!!

Tough battle tonight with Wadena Deer Creek.   ;)

I love middle school coaches who stack 8 guys inside the tackles, especially when I run a lot of option and counters!

First time I ever got stiffed on the post-game handshake in 7th grade FB though!  Guy was a tool, reminded me of Will Ferrel in Kicking and Screaming.

This is my favorite Deonte Hutchins pic

Missed call by that official.  I figured I would become a Minnesota fan by claiming the receivers pushed off like they do about Drew Pearson.  I actually know the ref pictured through other sports, and we have spent hours talking about that game.  Definitely one of the best overall refs I know.  I thought Concordia played very well that game.

IStolp has great numbers with throwing the ball.  I think his stats have him completing over 60% of his passes for an average of around 13 yards per play.  It will be important to keep the yards after the catch to minimum.  I think Olaf's speed will along with getting pressure in the backfield will bring those numbers down.  There are no quick long routes.  I also think the Olaf D can shut down the Gustavus running offense which will further complicate the pass efficiency of Stolp.

The St. Olaf offense will be spot on.  There are just too many weapons.  I think Schmeising will be more involved this week.

I believe that would be the Little Falls Flyers.  Just another program known for running up the score on the little mites of central minnesota.

Surprisingly, the Oles have brought up a few valid points. Kind of.

Over the last four years, Olaf has held GAC to 1.73 yards per carry. I don't have to tell anyone how bad that is. For a playcaller who wants to run at least 60% of the time, this killed Schoenebeck's offensive attack and put Stolp is terrible positions. That shouldn't be as much of an issue this year, as it's no longer Schoenebeck's attack

Brownie has the Gusties playing 4 WRs at all times; no FB or TE ever sets foot on the field. As other teams have adjusted their defensive sets to match up, it's created a ton of running lanes up front for Mitch Anderson, who has piled up almost 130 and 2 TDs per game with a 5.4 average. Those numbers are by far the best in the league and his 71 carries (also a league high, in 1 less game than most) shows Brownie's willingness to pound the ball, despite the formation.

So far no team has been able to adjust to GAC's spread attack and the Gusties have been able to run and throw at will. It will be interesting to see how the Oles line up — if they stack the line in their normal formation to stop Anderson, it should open things up for Stolp and vice versa. I'm confident in Brownie's ability to shake things up and keep a struggling Ole D on its heels...sadly, I'm nearly as confident in Meidt's ability to keep Berge's defense on its heels. It should be a shootout.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I don't know, Deontae goes up against some pretty damn good receivers any day. I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a better 1-2 combo in the MIAC then Schmiesing and Gant.

I'd be extrememly surprised if Meidt pits his first-string offense against his first-string defense on a daily basis.  When I played, the only time I ever went against our first-string offense was in the first two weeks of practice.  But then again, I wouldn't put anything past Meidter.

Any truth to the rumor that Jesse James might make an appearance tomorrow at the Stiftungsfestivities? Probably about as likely as Paris Hilton showing up. :'(

Duff -- I'm assuming you played line back in the day, your telling me that you never practiced pass rush against the first O or D lines? Granted, I know SJU does some unique things, but every practice I've been to either D3 or D1 has had some individual time where the starters go head to head either in 1 on 1s in the passing game or in pass rush for the linemen. Thats a standard thing to do. Granted, when your in "team" and if you have enough guys you have your "scounts" play the opposing team's schemes, but there are many opportunities that coaches try to allow their best players to play against each other so you get better. Thats typically how a program gets better.

Its Friday, I don't know about you guys but I'm ready for all of us "has beens" to stop pretending like we know what we are talking about and let all these discussions play out on the field. I'm pumped for tomorrow.

In case anyone else is interested, here is the game day program for the Ole/Gustie game tomorrow, put together by our SID. Best game day program in Olaf history. Our SID department has improved by 1000% in the past 4 years. Back in my day we had the women's golf coach as our SID and she had used the same 1 page program since 1990.

D-line.  After the first two weeks, we never practiced against anyone but the scout teams.  And honestly, we didn't even spend that much time in the preseason going against the first-string.  Just an opportunity to get your starters hurt, in John's eyes.  After the preseason, the only thing we ever did was 11-on-11 running plays and a little bit of special teams work.

Enjoy the games this weekend, everyone.  I'll be enjoying a weekend camping on the North Shore.  DustySJU would normally step in here and make a bold prediction about me getting engaged on the trip (as he does annually), but since I already took care of that deed, I suspect he'll keep his trap shut :D

That's not as good as Mongo's reasoning for skipping out on the games this weekend...nothing like a birthday party for the nephew of your girlfriend.  Maybe he's getting engaged this weekend now.
