BTW:  It homecoming here at the Little Falls Middle School

Great post ritz. Homecoming at a Middle School?  ???

That's a lot of golf man. Better bring a ton of balls as they tend to hide under the leaves.

I should be up in LF in the next month. I'll buy the first Hamm's for you and Veek if you'll join me.  8)

Slow day on the board....

Does anyone have some good examples of major let downs in terms of transfers who were suppose to be impact players?

This year Bethel had a "big" transfer from a D1-AA school in Illinois who was suppose to be an impact receiver.  It turns out he is a 3rd string receiver with nice speed and no hands.  Major let down  :-\

I think it goes to show how DIII is a bit more competitive than some people think.  Just because a player made it on a "higher level" team doesn't mean they are that much better a player.

Never really had a big time transfer that I know of at Carleton, but I'm sure St. Johns has a few examples as they usually have a handfull of transfers, also wasn't there mention of some big time transfer to the Auggies a year or two ago?  Haven't heard much about that since.  Sometimes the transfers live up to the hype, but most often they don't stand out from anyone else on the team which doesn't mean they were bad, just not the game-breakers the hype made them out to be.  I'm sure that a large number of the players in the MIAC had offers / were recruited by some Div II or higher school, so overall I don't think the level of play is that much better than Div III (although a lot depends on the conferences and teams being compared as well).

I just picked up some brats and buns from Schmidt's Meat Market in Nicollet, MN.  I'm pumped for tomorrow.

Im not from Osakis!!

Tough battle tonight with Wadena Deer Creek.   ;)

I love middle school coaches who stack 8 guys inside the tackles, especially when I run a lot of option and counters!

First time I ever got stiffed on the post-game handshake in 7th grade FB though!  Guy was a tool, reminded me of Will Ferrel in Kicking and Screaming.

Wadena Deer Creek!  Who do you coach?
I believe that would be the Little Falls Flyers.  Just another program known for running up the score on the little mites of central minnesota.

No way....I do not do that.  I want to be able to keep playing these schools instead of having to go to Bemidji, etc...

Maybe the use of "tool" was a strong word last night, but when I am trying to shuffle 47 kids in and out, and he is running his kids to the line to run a play before we are ready, I have a hard time with that in 7th grade FB, and I let k him know that was how I felt.

Funny story about the game.. . on the bus ride to Wadena last night, I told the kids that Wadena was ranked #5 in the state in 7th grade FB (many hockey players on the team who play at levels where there is state rankings.)  After we won, the kids were excited, and one of the parents came up and asked me if this "huge upset" would give us a chance to be ranked!!!  Oh boy, welcome to Morrison County!!  Time for some people to start marrying outside the family

I understand, I don't think anyone wants to go to bemidji.  Have they ever found a conference?  Great bit about the middle school rankings.  It's always great to be the underdog.  When's the last time St. John's was surprised and excited to win a game?  2003?

Does that mean I don't have to worry about you being too hungover in the morning to make the Stiffyfest (as you suggested earlier this week via cellular device), leaving me to fend for myself amongst hordes of the enemy? I was counting on my shrimp platter being enough to broker a truce, but your presence will be appreciated. I might even let you use my pass to get in free.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

So, Carleton fans are even invited to the festivities?  Do we bring anything?  We don't really have anything cool like corn, but I'm sure we could scrounge something up.  And by we I mean the large Carleton Nation.

BDB,
Here's one for you. If I wouldn't be heading in the other direction, I'd catch it. Booya & Hamm's - what a combo.   I think 'connect with nature' means outdoor plumbing.

For the Herald - The Friends of Beaver Creek Reserve are excited to host the first-ever booya and fall festival. The new fundraising event is noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7 on the Youth Camp side of the reserve.

Connect with nature while enjoying a huge bowl of homemade booya complete with crackers and beverages. This stew-like soup takes three days to prepare and is cooked over an open fire in a large cauldron. Hotdogs and brats will also be available at the one-day event.

Re: Transfers

The one transfer that we had at Olaf in my day was a WR named Frank Bass. He was an Armstrong grad who went to Northwestern (Chi) on scholarship, but didn't play. He transferred to Olaf because his cousin went there. You may remember he played for a year, 2002 I believe, and had a pretty good year. After doing well in the MIAC he decided to transfer back to Northwestern to see if he could play. After sitting out for the one year, he never saw the field at NW. If he would have stayed at Olaf for the 2003 season we may have actually won 5 games that year. Is it game time yet?

wahoo - Remember you yelling at me for divulging Bass' transfer AWAY from Olaf that year? I hope you're yelling at me again tomorrow in frustration after a Gustie monkeystomp :)
