Well, thanks all.  The ankle biters are begging for their Cheerios so I've gotta go.  See you all next weekend - I'm spending a week away with the family to find out who they are again after my ugly travel schedule the last three months.

(Don't let the ball and chain find out that the next three months look just as busy...)

See ya.

Chris, I think SJU has proven they own the Dutch from Pella.  Case Closed.  It doesn't matter where we play them.  Lots of MIAC play to go.

Anyone have an Olaf/GAC final?

Maybe-but Central may be ranked ahead of SJU.

I would be surprised by that, but I suppose it could be the case.  It isn't like the Dutch are dominating all their opponents.

Yup. While I know you can't put too much into that but SJU vs. the IIAC has been a very one-sided situation.

If I'm not mistaken (and I sure might be--if anyone can direct me to past postseason seedings I would be very appreciative), every time SJU has been the undefeated MIAC champs they have been seeded higher than undefeated conferece champs from every conference besides the WIAC.  Not saying that that would necessarily hold true this year, but Central has had its share of clunkers this year and in the past and either UW-W or UW-L could lose to any of a handful of teams in conference.  Neither the NWC or SCIAC are likely to have a team that would rank ahead of a 10-0 SJU.

Assuming the Johnnies take care of business, they should be assured of at least a top-2 seed and a chance to take of business on the field.  Asking for anything more than that--especially this early in the season--is tough.

They mentioned that GAC beat the Tommies. I am going to pat myself on the back about noticing that Baldwin Wallace didn't look that strong to me.

retagent, regarding your synopsis of today's game from the WIAC board... I am wondering what the coach does starting Monday when the team has a game like that.
My guess is not much different happens. Probably just preparing for next opponent.

Oles win 59-19. Should be quite the game next week.

Thanks Shawn for that update.  I just tried calling Frank Rickard but he didn't answer.  I presume he is already at the Rueb N Stein in downtown Northfield drowning his sorrows.  Nice statement game for the Oles.  Quite a beatdown.  Further proof that the Gusties have a LONG way to go til they compete for the MIAC title again.  Thanks for playing.

Warhawk announcers are resorting to UWMadison score over Spartans to brighten their day.... LAX 28, UWW 13, 10 1/2 minutes to go...

Ugly victory in Northfield today... Johnnies show their inconsistent play on grass and of course on the road.

Home field should revive a rusty AK-11 who could have used a little WD-40.

10-4?

Despite off-site locale Stiftungsfestivities live even with Willy Wonka's frozen shrimp... the guy needs to get his head out of the Red Wing High School Homecoming activities.....

Great game by the Oles today. The Gusties were extremely overmatched. I would like to point out, after a full week of ragging on Deontae, he came up with a huge pick to set the tone for the game.
While I haven't seen every receiver in the MIAC I would say Andrew Schmiesing is the best of the best in the MIAC. He does some icky things on the field, today's 4 TD's and AMAZING other grabs helped drive that point home.
Arlt did not impress me at all. On the other hand, the other player in the game who had been on the D3football.com National Team of the Week, Nick Rydberg, played extremely well.
I am very excited for next weekend. It should be a battle, both teams will come very well prepared. The best we can do is hope for a game for the ages!

Continuing the earlier "discussion" regarding Alex Kofoed, I thought this breakdown was interesting.  Don't know what to make of it, understand that it's a miniscule sample size, don't remember it from past years, etc., etc., etc...

2007 Totals:

ROAD:  27-51 passing (53%), 236 yds (118 ypg), 1 TD/4 INT, 4 sacks
HOME:  60-76 passing (79%), 853 yds (284 ypg), 11 TD/1 INT, 1 sack--total of about 1.5-2 games played

Again, this may just be a manifestation of his inconsistency and pure varience that his two bad games have been on the road and 3 good ones have been at home.  Also, I think at this point you would have to say that the opponents have been roughly equivilent at home and on the road.

The differences in sack numbers may be revealing, and was alluded to by someone (Jimmy G, perhaps?) during or after the game:  maybe Kofoed doesn't feel comfortable with his footing or scrambling abilites when he gets off the SprinTurf and on wet grass.  He certainly made some impressive improvisational plays against Marietta and Concordia to pad his totals.  And Primus commented about "not being able to get traction" against Carleton--it's possible Kofoed's faced more pressure on the road because the field conditions are also affecting his O-Line.

Or it's also totally possible that he just isn't that good and the bad games are a true representation of the kind of QB that he is.  I apologize for this pissy tone of my earlier comments on the subject, but I think that comments others were making were exactly the kind that give the wrong impression of Johnnie fans when Kofoed would be the unquestioned starter at every other school in the conference.

Also excited for next week's game, but if the Johnnies and Oles play next week they way they did this week it certainly won't be a game for the ages.
