Interesting score stream . . . .Linfield loses to Willamette, which lost to GAC, which was rolled by STO ...

CCKnight

Almost witnessed the upset of the year in Northfield today.  Congrats to the knights on a hard fought game, and to the Johnnies on doing what they needed to at the end of the game to win it.  The knights had their chances to win it, but just came up a little short.  Hopefully they can avoid a let down next week and help contribute to the Tommies 0-fer they have going this season.  I'm hoping that St. Johns puts it to the Oles big like they did a few years ago when the Oles went up there cocky and undefeated.  While I'm not a fan of the Johnnies, my hatred for the Oles is much, much greater.

Or it's also totally possible that he just isn't that good and the bad games are a true representation of the kind of QB that he is.  I apologize for this pissy tone of my earlier comments on the subject, but I think that comments others were making were exactly the kind that give the wrong impression of Johnnie fans when Kofoed would be the unquestioned starter at every other school in the conference.

That is a pretty bold statement especially after his most recent game

Kofoed falls down while rolling out on 4th and 2.  We are 0 for 3 on fourth downs.

Arrgghhh.....

I put a voodo hex on him.  Just wanted to see if I could. ;D  At that point
in the game I had no idea what a nailbiter it was going to be.

I've got some good pics of him on his keister with no one else in the
neighborhood.

After reading the past 20 pages or so with regards to the Johnnies game, I want to respond to some of what was written...

First of all TT, the senior Carbo, otherwise known as Moses because he came first was in Duluth reffing the UMD game...he will be back next week at homecoming...

Second, SJU 56321...LAY OFF KOFOED...yes he had one of his worst games ever but a win is a win.  If you judge QB's on a game by game basis you must think Linneman sucks because his last game he threw 3 pics and the J's lost 10-7 to MUC...and you must think Keating walks on water...quite frankly you are a spoiled brat and I wish you would cheer for the Tommies.  Its real easy to take shots at a guy when he is having an off day, yes he made some mistakes, but lets not forget he has won his fair share of games as well...miracle in Moorhead...two road playoff games last year and nearly a third at Whitewater...His name will sit atop the career passing records at SJU for a while after he is done...he is a winner, normally a  play-maker and I think he will lead SJU to the playoffs this year.

third, As for the rankings...from what I have been told, the AFCA carry more weight than D3 and the seedings will take care of themselves, IF SJU wins out they will have one more regional win than UWW and now Lax and as for Central, the Iowa conference does not seem to generate the respect that the MIAC, the WIAC and the NWC get, although I am starting to think the NWC is not that great either.  IF SJU wins out I believe they will be the top seed in the WEST if the NCAA goes by their criteria,  Pat would know better. but from what I have been told that is the way things would shake out...

Sorry to rant, but I have seen every game Kofoed has played in he is aces in my book and will always be.

No rankings play any part in the NCAA seeding process. And the AFCA rankings seem nutty at times.

BTW - a "weak" Willamette team (as said a long time many posts ago) beat Linfield today. So that may say something about the MIAC vs. NWC. Or not...

Four of the top 12 teams in the poll lost today with only LAX falling to a ranked opponent. Seems like it was upset Saturday in D III as well as in the FBS (D 1A)

Needless to say, I've had quite the paradigm shift today.  I've certainly never considered myself a huge Kofoed fan, but I guess I got caught up in the preseason All-American talk (even though I know Street & Smith is pretty much rubbish) and all the records and stuff.  I've always considered him a perfectly serviceable to above-average quarterback.  I didn't know so many people--both pro- and anti-SJU--were so down on him.  Eye-opening, really.

Regarding my comment that Kofoed would be the unquestioned starter elsewhere in the MIAC, I'll admit I didn't put nearly as much thought into that as I should have.  I guess if Kofoed magically showed up in Arden Hills or Northfield at the start of this season, he probably wouldn't be starting over Wetzell or Penz.  It would be interesting to see how it would have played out if they were at the same school the last 4 years together.

While there is no why to rationalize away how bad of a game he played today, I think it's only fair to look at Kofoed's entire 4-year body of work.  I gained a new appreciation for him after looking at his career numbers for some stuff I put together at johnniefootball.com and I'll admit that I am swayed by how disjointed the Johnnie offense looked last year against Concordia and Carleton when he was out.

All in all, I think we're damn lucky to have him.

Neither carries any weight. Ours is certainly more accurate, however. The coaches dinged UWW for losing on the road to a D-II school and because of that, they got today's UWW/UWL game wrong (higher-ranked team losing at home). I'll take our voters every day and twice on Sundays (since that's when they vote!).

Pat,

I understand your reasoning...but somehow opinions are formed with regards to regional rankings, and how are they formed?  From polls, why did SJU get dinged a spot after beating River Falls on the road, which is an improved team in the WIAC?  How much will they get dinged for just getting by Carleton?

Isn't the seeding based on regional record first and foremost?  And when will the first regional rankings be out?

FightingCoBB

Sounds like an interesting day in Northfield to say the very least!  I myself missed the Cobber-Auggie match up in Moorhead (do to the case of having a rugby match against the Johnnies in Collegeville-congrats SJU-22, CC-5) but I heard I was a step in the right direction for our boys.  51-21 isn't bad, sounds like last weekend eh rats?  Jesse Nelson with a stellar ground game leading the field with close to 130 yards rushing, Adam Swingdorf with 3 TD's, and Co-Jo bringing himself a few paces closer to the all-time CC rushing record, good day overall Cobbs!  Congrats to the Knights on a hard-faught game too btw..

Solely from the NCAA ranking criteria and nothing else.

Why did Mary Hardin-Baylor move up a spot, you mean? Check the scores for that week -- it's not all about St. John's. And let's be honest -- UW-RF might be improved but they are still 1-3. They're not great.

In a normal week they might indeed lose ground for barely beating Carleton. There were other Top 10 losses, though, that will probably mitigate that.
