Quote from: stanbob on October 05, 2007, 05:06:17 PMShouldn't olefan be starting all of his stories with "And one summer when I was at band camp........." ?   ;D

I met a future Johnnie at a band camp one year.  His first choice was St. Olaf, but blowing your own horn is not a recognized instrument in the St. Olaf band.

I met a few girls at band camp who could blow (in their instrument).

A lot of the guys like to beat it (the drums) all day long.

I hope those are to your liking.  Remember to tip your bartender or Johnnie Red at his festivities.

There we go! It's not a big game until the "Johnnies are gay" jokes come flying out. 'bout damn time. :-*

Huh?  I didn't get that at all.

Looks like another Chinese toy is being recalled...

Ha!  That touched the funny bone.

I was not making any gay jokes about SJU.  We all know that gay jokes in Northfield are not kosher at all.  I will try to have Coach Meidt answer the hard questions later if I have time.

You want to know what just occurred to me (other than the fact that the Red Sox are the best team ever to grace the game of baseball) ?  I don't think that a single Johnnie fan has uttered the phrase "monkey stomp" on the board this week.  You all MUST be nervous for that to happen.

Ok, you win.  I concede that the J's won't win in a monkey stomp.  I'll grant you the moral victory of STO  losing by less that 21 pts.

Any other moral victories you looking for?  I might be able to help.

Story in the Marshall paper about Pollock's catch. But the thing that carries this story is the amazing picture...

Great, from homophobia to anti-antisemitism.  Are there no lines an Ole won't cross?????

(and before there is too much steam in this, yes, that was in jest)

I read that article the other day and didn't think to post the link here, thanks for sharing it.

The hard questions for him meidt be Saturday afternoon when he has to explain wtf happened to his once unbeaten florwegians.

Everyday is payday in paradise.

Did TC really pick STO in the pick ems?

Just so I can keep my Irrational Johnnie Backer membership card, I'd like to point out that I took the Oles and the points, not the Oles to win.

Actually, I haven't written my game prediction for www.johnniefootball.com yet.  I've contemplated all week on whether or not I'd be the first contributor to pick against the Johnnies--and I still haven't decided.  You'll have to check out the column first thing tomorrow morning to see which way I go with it.

I'll say right now that on paper the Oles look like they might be the MIAC's best non-Johnnies team in years, but there have been quite a few MIAC #2's come to Clemens Stadium and leave disappointed ('05 STO, 63-9, and '01 Bethel, 34-0, come to mind).  If they Johnnies play like they did against UW-River Falls and Carleton they will absolutely lose tomorrow.  But this isn't an infallible Olaf team, either, as they failed to put away Luther in the season opener.

It's also important to remember that the loser of this game still almost certainly controls their own playoff destiny and Concordia, Gustavus and Bethel have all shown that they are beatable this year.  I expect these two teams to end up with a total of one regular season loss this year, meaning this game may not be for a playoff spot so much as for homefield advantage in the playoffs.  While the '01 Johnnies were road warriors, this years' team/Kofoed have certainly struggled on the road making me think that playing UW-Whitewater, UW-LaCrosse, Central, or St. Olaf at home might be enough to tilt the game in the Johnnies favor.

Alas, the playoffs are a long ways down the road...  Should be a great game tomorrow, looking forward to some 'Festivities!

My bad on the jokes. I guess when you hear a million of 'em, you assume they're all that way.

Signing off for the day. Good luck to all tomorrow. If any of you see a guy chasing around a one-year old hellion at the game, that would be me.

Rocco: Are you a Johnnie fan?  We need to know your affiliation ASAP (so the karma circle jerk can proceed if needed).

I played at Macalester in the late 90's and was a teammate for a season of the notorious OneArmedScot. I've been reading this board for a long time, but have never really posted, because, lets face it, who wants to talk about Mac football.

To answer your question, I have a ton of respect for Johnnie football and think they are a great program. But no, I wouldn't classify myself as a Johnnie "fan". I do, however, share your absolute, unconditional hatred for the Tommies. Does that count for something in said karma circle jerk?
