where were you standing? I'm assuming in the press box. I'm sure you had a much better angle on it than I did right on the sideline where it happened. Cleary accidentle and maybe "touching" is a little light, but "halfway around" is the greater exageration.

Pretty sure the Ole's hand/fingers snagged Kofoed's facemask and snapped his head around. Also, the facemask grab is what shifted Kofoed's motion from moving forward, to falling backwards. Deliberate, no. Personal foul, yes.

Good game by the Oles.  You deserved to win for a majority of the game.  SJU closed out strong, though.  The Ole o-line did a good job holding off SJU's d-line.  I think Olaf may had the better team on the field today, but SJU came through with it.

Nice to meet StOlafFootballOles and friends at the Stiftungsfestivities.  Glad you could join us and realize we're not pricks in real life, usually.

On a side note, I've realized that I need to work on my attitude and temper during games before I blow a gasket!  I will still bleed cardinal and blue through and through, but I hope to take in the game in a more casual manner and enjoy things for what they are.  I've been getting too worked up.  Look for a kinder, gentler Duff in the coming weeks :)

That face mask call at the end was a touch.  If you were near the field, it was easy to see.  The call did need to be made and was.

There were some officiating issues with the game, but that is not the reason the Oles lost it.  I have never experienced a more intense football game in my life.  Hopefully the Oles can make a run at it and we can meet again in the playoffs.

Good game to the Johnnies and the Oles!

It was a heck of a game today.  Congrats to the Johnnies on a hard-fought win.  The Oles need to keep their heads up and get ready for the cobbers now.  As far as I can tell, they win out and their in, especially with Wartburg losing.
I was impressed with the Johnnie red zone defense today.  They held the Oles to FG's on a few drives which was huge for them. The Ole O-line played out of their minds.  I was impressed.
As for the end-game "personal foul" (it was ABSOLUTELY unintentional), it was the right call... It was a horrendously disappointing way to end the game, and made the game completely anti-climactic... but it was the right call.

Pat, what do you think will happen to the Oles and Johnnies in the rankings after today's game?

My limited net access had me sitting in the car listening to the Olaf announcers on the radio for the final 7 minutes after multiple updates from my sources. Sounds like I missed a doozy.

Gusties got down 21-rip early before rallying back to have the ball with a chance to tie late in the fourth. Instead, a 3-and-out allowed the Royals to send home the clincher.

Baby Biggins - How did that chant you loved so much last week go again? Someone smash, Bechdol kill? I trust you'll have that updated with a facemask call for next week's game against the Royals, who now appear to be the biggest threat left to SJU for the title.

Juicy STO Rumor Alert!!!
Our favorite non-gangsta Horace Gant was supposedly suspended from practice all week for, well, let's just say an incident with a female student on Olaf's campus. I'm glad Meidt had the balls to run the punishment through something that actually mattered, like the biggest game of the year.

Wait, what? Gant played the entire game? Weird...I'd never have expected that ::)

This is the most unacceptable piece of trash ever to come through this board. Something needs to be done about posts such as this. Where did you get your info Wonka? Did you leave it exceptionally vague in the "well, lets just say and incident with a female" section. This is a low class as it gets. Did you think of the ramifications this post could cause? It is things like this and people like you that end up hurting lives of athletes. Now, I am not saying I know facts because I certainly do not. Regardless, until things have been properly sorted out (if they even need to be for all we know) you should keep quiet. Pat, you said things needed to stop with the Luberts comments (which I agree on), how is this any different?

Now, on to today. I thought both teams were very evenly matched. I did not see anything to say that either team is much better than one another and really, the score reflects that. Both teams played hard. I think a personal foul may have been a little harsh for the end of the game, maybe a 5 yarder. Anyway, congrats to both teams. Lets hope for an excellent end to the season.

The facemask call was definitely a grab and not a touch or brush.  I was sitting on the hill right above the play and jumped out of my seat immediately because Kofed's head turned about 60 degrees and it changed his momentum.  He was not on the ground when it happend.  May have been stumbling forward a bit.  I'm not sure if it was flagrant enough to be a personal foal but maybe the rules on a head tackle require a personal foul if the helmet or face mask is grabbed.

On a different note what does everything think about the decision by STO to kick the field goal instead of going for a first down or touchdown?

I agreed with the call.  You can't anticipate a five and a half minute drive, especially when SJU's scoring drives in the second half were both under two minutes long.  If the Oles didn't convert, and SJU scored a TD, that's the game.  The FG keeps makes it a one point game, and means that a your team can still recover from a TD.

If they were preparing for that contingency, why not let SJU sccore a TD at the end to get the ball back?

I'm not a big Meidt fan but I think either call was the right call.  I was frankly surprised that SJU held onto the ball for the remainder of the game.  I do think the Ole defense was a bit tired that last 5 minutes.

The hold call was legit....however unfortunate for the Oles.  I too wish the Ole's would have let the Johnnies score.  I lost 10 bucks to an Ole I work with....he made me give him 7 points!

They're in kneel down formation. Sort of anticlimatic, but a perfect ending. Oles  certainly deserved to win as much as the Johnnies.

Anticlimatic is the exeact way to describe the ending of this game.  The crowd wanted the Johnnies to score and stop Olaf on defense.  The penalty was a legit call, but the game just seemed to deserve more than that.  Overall good game.  I was very impressed by Olaf overall.

Special teams play kept the Ole's in the game, (returns) but did kill them with their kicking game (-4 points).  Good game though and i hope the ole kids stick around.

I don't know what the Coaches for Olaf were planning for at that point of the game, I was merely stating what I was thinking about at that point of the game.

What does everyone think about Trinity (TX), La Crosse, and Wartburg all losing to unranked teams?
