I'm sure there were vicious rumors spread that a certain offensive lineman destroyed Duffman on a trap play and I would imagine that those rumors have destroyed Duffman's life.

You can't substantiate that!  If this is what this website has come to, it should be shut down!!!

Johnnie Red

My thanks to everyone who attended the Stiftungsfestivities Saturday, especially the Ole fans. Always great to meet MIAC rivals.

Frankrickard, I will be at Patrick's Saturday morning. Thanks for helping set it up. Piperinsider mentioned the Oktoberfest. I am assuming he is talking about New Ulm. It will also be held this weekend. Might be a good idea to head down to New Ulm Friday night and then drive over to St. Peter Saturday morning.

OleFan, you would love the Bockfest. It is the Saturday before Ash Wednesday at Schell's Brewery in New Ulm. Duffman has been there. It is the same weekend as the EelPout Festival in Walker, which has to be the largest outdoor keg party in Minnesota. It is on Leech Lake. You would enjoy both events.

KR, congrats on your boards.

Just having a look at the Top 25 poll, drifted to looking at STO's schedule and boy and I'm looking forward to the Bethel/STO game in two weeks.

The Royals have two weeks to prepare and STO will be charged since they must win to make the post season.  Actually, the Royals pretty much have to win as well (though they could beat the J's and still make it with the autobid, I suppose).  Should be a real rip-snorter.

Now, here's the dilemma: who do I support?  I care about the game so I can't help but cheer for one team or the other but it's a real Hobson's choice.  Hmmm.....  something for me to dwell on over the next 10 days or so.

Thinking playoffs, if Bethel doesn't win out, I think they will be left out of the playoffs.  It will be tough for a two-loss team to get into the dance-- and given their first loss was to BVU-- a middling IIAC team-- their chances are best at this point by running the table and taking the autobid.

I think STO is sitting pretty right now for a pool C bid; but we will have to see what the NCAA thinks when they release the regional rankings.  If they win out, they should be in good shape; but a loss to anyone (Bethel...) puts them in jeopardy (see above).

SJU is obviously in the driver's seat; but they have rivals GAC in their new stadium, UST at home, and Bethel on the road yet this year.  So it could be an interesting end to the season...

Let's get ready for this week SJU v. GAC-what is everyone's best game(s) memory from this series-SJU v. GAC? For me, 1987 and the two penalties on John for arguing a call at the home game, which SJU loses and then the playoffs, when SJU faces GAC again, in St. Peter, with the wind blowing at about 50 miles an hour and SJU wins 7-3. GAC had a great passing offense that year, but the wind killed them in the playoffs-and St. John's defense.

Speaking of regional rankings...when are the first ones released?  It was a great game this weekend, and I really think ST. Olaf if a postseason team, if they win out.  I was really impressed by the J's O line owning the advantage in the final quarter...they found running plays that worked and made good things happen.

I am looking forward to seeing the new stadium on Saturday, I am surprised that its the Gusties homecoming game, given the fact that the J's should be decided favorites in this one.

My favorite memory was getting trapped by Frank Rickard ;D

Hmm, I didn't even know GAC was considered a "rival".  They haven't beat SJU since I've started following the program and the Johnnies are 19-1 against them since the game sju56321 mentioned.

I guess my favorite memory would have to be Duffman being trapped, then.  It was such a play (I've been told, I wasn't actually there) that is still spoken of in hushed, reverent tones at Stiftungsfestivites to this day.

And, of course, the obligatory link to Blake Elliott owning Gustavus at 2003 Homecoming:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyFHHc28rxA

Congrats on the boards KR!  87th percentile is impressive.

Thanks Auggies... and Eu Claire.

Anybody else notice how the WIAC has four teams in the top 25 in the d3 poll?  it's too bad for them that they are going to start knocking each other off the rest of the season.  Could bring good things to the MIAC teams that are in playoff contention.
FG, I agree with you on the WIAC.  Will be very impressed with UWW if they get through the rest of their schedule without a loss.  At UWSP, home against MHB and then at UW Stout, which I think still has the old style turf and a very disorientating field (seems like playing in a parking lot).  That's SJU's bye week so I might journey over there to see what happens.

If people like Willy continued to use this great resource for the purpose of spreading innuendo, it would be well advised, at the very least, to shut them down.

Thanks. I've been moderating our boards since 1998. I don't really need advice from someone making his first two posts.

On the personal foul...I honestly thought Kofoed was going to go down earlier.  This is where he is such a difference-maker.  He kept the play alive and forced the mistake.  The personal foul was certainly unintentional, but correctly called.  I don't think many people in the stadium wanted that call to conclude the game, but the referees did what they had to do...just unfortunate.

It was amazing how the SJU running game really came alive in the fourth quarter.

Obvious turning point of the game - SJU is down by 9 going into Q4.  Kofoed is under serious pressure and throws a duck to the streaking WR on the right.  Weber comes underneath to catch the ball and run it in for the TD.  This is the first play of the 4th quarter against the wind.  This just seemed to change everything.  The Oles were the only team pushing the ball.  Now the Johnnies were within two points.  This play seemed more likely to be an INT rather than a TD.  Great play by Weber.

I'm a day behind I guess... but I was standing on the 20-yd-line of the Ole sideline when the face mask penalty occurred. It was the right call, despite my hopes the officials would only penalize the Oles 5-yds and the desire to see everyone sweat through another 3rd down play. I don't know if Kofoed was for sure going down at that point until his facemask was grabbed, but he was definitely being hurried by that point.

It seemed like the Oles refused to blitz or stunt up front for most of the game and instead settled for trying to collapse the pocket. It seemed to be working well--but the Ole d-line looked pretty exhausted coming off the hot field after every series in the fourth. Eventually Kofoed realized that he didn't have to throw off his back foot anymore and he started moving around and making plays. Probably the difference in the game to me.

Overall--one of the best games/atmosphere I've seen... ever. Both teams played great--I just can't help but think the Johnnies felt lucky though to escape with the win. Once Deontae left the game it seemed like SJU was content throwing 50/50 balls down the sideline until they took the lead.

I believe we get regional rankings after Week 8 these days.

cobbernation

It was a nice day, but sloppy game in Moorhead on saturday.  The CC offense decided to fumble the ball 7 times losing it 6 times.  Two of which were recovered in the endzone by the pipers to give them their 14 points.  If that occurs this weekend in Northfield, I can see a repeat of last years 49-14 rout.  Overall, a win is a win and a big congrats to Cory Johnson for eclipsing the 2000 yard mark for his career.  It took him 285 carries to get there making it a average of 7.8 yds a carry!  Not too bad.  The D-Line was constantly in the backfield and the secondary was keeping everything in front of them.

On to the oles.  Johnnie faithful who should we be looking for to make an immediate impact on the game?  I am only asking you because I am not sure how many oles will be on the board following saturday's loss and previous predictions of 0 posters heading into the weekend!
