Now that the WIAC has erupted into its typical chaos (minus UWW), a Cheesehead has started their usual whine: bashing the "ever-tough MIAC."

Another tidbit from another WIAC poster:

Interesting comment from John O'Grady in pre-game interview:  WW not quite as good this year as last two years and does not have quite the speed/talent of SJU. (Am anticipating a few responses to that one!)

My favorite GAC-SJU memory...you mean besides Elliot returning 2 punts for td's against and having a 3rd one called back for stepping out of bounds? Ummmm...I'll get back to you on that one.

Duffman and TC-  While I don't like spreading vicious rumors, I'm pretty sure that the guy who trapped Duffman on that play was a ten foot tall beastman who showers in vodka and feeds his baby shrimp scampi.

How much does writing the opposing team preview for JohnnieFootball pay?  If it pays in Hamm's, then I want to volunteer my services.

KeST-- I think you need to cool out, Will Ferrell-doing-Neil Diamond style.  This is a place for discussions, whether they be of rumor or fact.  Basically, you have to take any rumor with a grain of salt.  It's not like I'm going to look down on an Ole player because of something I read on here. I'll look down on them for their crappy Um-Ya-Ya song.  I mean, nothing posted on here is going to be published in SI.  Wonka is a quality poster and we've all agreed/disagreed with some things he said--perhaps the post you're so angry about is one most people will disagree with. So let's discuss.

Frank--I'll be down on Friday. I'm sure we'll be going to Patricks that night, do you think they'll let us just spend the night there?

I went to the GAC/Bethel game on Saturday and it was quite disappointing.  Having GAC get down 21-0 right away made things tough, but they kept fighting to get it close.  Give Bethel credit, every time GAC seemed to have some momentum, they stepped up and either scored, changed the field position battle, or came up with a big defensive stop.
GAC's offense seemed to shine at times but killed a few drives by penalties.  Stolp had the same problem I saw in other games this season--starring down the receivers he throws to. Sometimes you can tell where is is throwing from the snap and I suspect this has lead to a few INT this season.

I'm excited for the SJU game on Saturday.  Not just because of the Patricks gathering, but i think if GAC's offense can be consistent while being penalty-free, things could be interesting.  Also, GAC's defense can't get burned deep.
It'll be tough, as SJU always is, but with a new stadium and homecoming, odd things could happen.
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

I feel much better knowing I was trapped by Bill Brasky. ;D

If people like Willy continued to use this great resource for the purpose of spreading innuendo, it would be well advised, at the very least, to shut them down.

Thanks. I've been moderating our boards since 1998. I don't really need advice from someone making his first two posts.

At what point can we give you advice?  5000 posts?  1000 Karma?  ;)

Sometime more than a week of posting, that's for sure. :)

FG, I agree with you on the WIAC.  Will be very impressed with UWW if they get through the rest of their schedule without a loss.  At UWSP, home against MHB and then at UW Stout, which I think still has the old style turf and a very disorientating field (seems like playing in a parking lot).  That's SJU's bye week so I might journey over there to see what happens.

Not sure what you mean about a disorientating field. Most people think it's a nice stadium.

The turf is being replaced next summer which will be nice.

Let me know if you are coming over and I'll get you in and you can sit with me on the 50 yard line.  ;)

Don't feel bad about being trapped, I once saw him scissor kick Angela Landsbury.

Well I guess disorientation is in the mind of the beholder and to tell your the truth I can't remember much other than my first impression on entering the stadium, so I'll withhold any further comments until my second visit.

This story come from an unidentified source in the Gustavus Weekly and should only be taken as rumor and not fact:

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky took me out to go get a drink with him? We go off looking for a bar and we can't find one. Finally Brasky takes me to a vacant lot and says, 'Here we are.' We sat there for a year and a half and sure enough someone constructs a bar around us. The day they opened we ordered a shot, drank it, and then burned the place to the ground. Brasky yelled over the roar of the flames, 'Always leave things the way you found em!

This weekend was a gem for consistency:

1.  SJU pulls out a close game at the end.  Good teams pull out close games and this bodes well for the playoffs, if they make it there.

2.   Sell out crowd, and then some, at the Natural Bowl.

3.   Parking Nazis from the SJU Life Safety Services being properly ignored.  You have thousands of people at homecoming; some of those people are going to park on the grass.  Can they really expect everyone to take a bus from I-94?

4.  Alumni shakedown (e.g.   the $50.00 alumni dinner Friday night, among other items)

5.  Trash talking, second guessing, alibiing, opposing fans frustrated that their team lost (See Linfield 2002 and 2003).

SJU had some bad breaks and STO had some bad breaks; that's the game. So STO's #1 DB gets injured?  TS  SJU's Primus got injured but his reserve came in and played extremely well / Blackmore was not a full speed / SJU lost two great running backs this year even before the season began....etc.  Those things happen but you play the game anyway and sometimes you still win.

I truly hope two MIAC teams make the playoffs.  I hope one is SJU.  I would hope both MIAC teams could go far into the playoffs.  Bethel's a great program but they have never seemed to be able to win in the post season and that does not shore up well for the MIAC.  If STO does make it, I hope it does not fall into the same funk.  STO's a great team and, this year, has the athletes that could enable it to do some damage in the playoffs (hopefully not to SJU).  I hope the MIAC teams are able to maintain a tough mental focus in the post-season.

Chewey/Bryce;  I can't believe I haven't run into you guys this season.... do I have to wait until a trip south to meet you guys again???? And by the way, RedHotBennie is Hot!

The only things I didn't like about the stadium was the old turf and the lack of seating on the visitors' side. Good to see one of those is going away.

Hmm, I didn't even know GAC was considered a "rival".  They haven't beat SJU since I've started following the program and the Johnnies are 19-1 against them since the game sju56321 mentioned.

When I was in Collegeville, GAC had as many MIAC titles as SJU in football (all-time).  SJU has since surpassed that mark...but the Gusties finished second or third in the conference every year between 1997-2001 (losing in the final game of the season in 1998 to the Johnnies that would have tied them for the MIAC title); it was only recently they fell on hard times.  But they are a traditional MIAC "power" that I learned early never to take lightly.

I remember that 1998 game well-- in the dome, and Herbst ran wild.  I also remember the 2002 game-- where a pass to Ryan Hoag near the end zone went incomplete giving the Jays the 20-7 victory.

5 Best memories of GAC games:

*In the late 80s-early 90s GAC's HC would wear the full suit on the sidelines...coat, tie, vest, dress shoes, headset......it was a classic look.  In 1991, we came out for the first play after the kickoff and ran an outside option with Jay Conzemius for an 80+ yrd TD, virtually untouched.  The defense holds and forces a punt.  First play on that drive we run the exact same play to the exact same side for another TD.  Conzemius finished the day with close to 200 yrds.

*Former SJU TE Nate Rasmussen (deceased) made probably the catch of his life at the end of the first half in 1998? for a TD and took the wind out of GAC.  Caught it one-handed against his shoulder pad falling out of bounds.

*In 1999 in the Dome we put together a great drive at the end of the first half with Stanger hitting Seiben for a huge gain down inside the 10.  Seiben gets out of bounds with over 5 seconds left....the ref on the sideline winds the clock end of the half.  John was pi**ed and chases the refs to the exit, I provided the security escort for John (documented fact in the Sweet Season).

*The play Esq mentioned from the 2002 game....where Hoag was almost split in half going over the middle by Spanky Spanier....end of the game.  The Hoagie sandwich was a non-factor that day.

*The now infamous trap play that has been widely spoken about in this forum.......could not tell you what happened, but Duff if a guy wants to brag about a two yard gain when we had you slanting...don't ruin his self-esteem :P
